For the last 4 months, I've had problems with FireFox crashing on my desktop computer. I get a crash report every time. I'm running a dual-boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04 (both 64-bit); see below for hardware details. Frequency is erratic, but can happen in 5 minutes or take 12 hours, and can happen with 2 tabs open or with 40 tabs open. I was having problems in both Windows and Linux and only on my desktop (I have a dual-boot laptop with no issues), so one way or another, I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem.
Troubleshooting I've done so far:
Ran a memory test; test declared the RAM to be good.
Unchecked "Use hardware acceleration when available".
Disabled all add-on's.
Replaced video card (old card was a GeForce GT430; new card is a GeForce GTX970).
Performed a clean re-install of FireFox; it would crash before installing any add-on's.
And, finally, reformatted and repartitioned the hard drive and re-installed Windows (I haven't re-installed the Linux side yet).
All system updates and video card updates are installed.
These steps have made no change, leading me to suspect that either MemTest isn't detecting a memory problem, or I have a hardware problem elsewhere. I'm getting ready to replace the motherboard, processor, and RAM, but thought I would check here first to see if I'm missing anything. I should note that I've also had problems with Google Chrome and Opera, but FireFox is my first choice, so I came here first.
Here are the only five crash reports I have available at the moment (these crashes occurred in the 72 hours or so since I got Windows 7 re-installed):
If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
