I cannot determine how this blue square came to be staring at my comments, but it's creeping me out. I think it's an avatar tracker, but who put it on to me? I prefer to remain as naked as Ms. Liberty. Can you help me? NYTs emailed back it is not their square.

As stated above - I went to a website story from Yahoo, Shortly after the page displayed, a large black band appeared across the whole screen, covering the requested page. On the left hand side was a large Firefox Logo, in the center of the band the words "Security Allert," and then download the fix or something of that nature. There was no "X" box to clear the message, just a DOWNLOAD button, and a "Technical Details," Button. Being suspicious, I moused over the "Technical Details," button and the URL below appeared as anything but a Firefox website. The URL was so long I was not able to copy it - it extended off the screen.

The only way I could get rid of it (even from the process table) was to do a hard shutdown. When I rebooted, the Yahoo page with the Black FireFox window reappeared. I went to the process table once more to close the message, and the phony page then asked "Do you REALLY want to leave this page?" To which I said yes.

Please help.

Thanks,

Paul

ps: I tried to find the Yahoo Web Page that spawned to black banner to no avail. I couldn't capture the URL of the download website to provide to you either - Sorry

When I try to send or respond to emails, a block comes up and says there's a problem with the address but there isn't. I've tried it with several addressees. I've turned off the computer, restarted the computer, updated a plug-in, removed TRUE Key which I added just the other day. It worked this morning but not in the last few hours.

Hi everyone:

Suddenly Firefox is picky about certificates and won't let me go to most websites. I went to the help article on support.mozilla titled:

"Websites don't load - troubleshoot and fix error messages."

I tested one of the "insecure connection" websites in I.E., and I.E. opened it. So I clicked

"The problem only happens in Firefox."

There was this paragraph:

"If another web browser works just fine, one of following solutions should fix things:

"Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can - if you can view websites in browsers other than Firefox. "

I clicked that and ended up back here:

"For other error messages that display when you try to view websites in Firefox, see Websites don't load - troubleshoot and fix error messages. " That should look familiar. If I click that link, I end up here:

"The problem only happens in Firefox."

I have yet to find a solution to try.

Help?

This morning clicking on down arrow button next to address bar or typing a few of the letters in the address bar does not display a drop-down list of most visited pages (or most visited pages starting with one of those few letters). And I think (although I'm not sure) that clicking that arrow and typing those letters were the last of my actions with Firefox on the previous day. Refreshing Firefox did not solve the problem.

I'm not certain exactly when this started happening, but I can not refresh pages by using F5, ctrl-F5, or the refresh button in the address bar. The only thing I can do is enter the URL in a new tab, or click back then forward again. When I refresh by any of the mentioned methods, absolutely nothing happens, it doesn't even attempt to refresh. There is no network activity or visual indicators of a loading process or anything else.

I have version 45.0.1. Recently I discovered that I can no longer move bookmarks, not anywhere, not in the bookmarks toolbar, not anywhere.

After wasting so much valuable time trying to find out what might be causing this problem, and trying every suggested solution I could find, I finally had to reset Firefox to the original installation. And of course this removes all addons... which is a major nuisance. Only then was I once again able to slide open tabs to the left or right in order to make them more useful and organized for my purposes. I could also slide any other bookmark anywhere I need it.

In any case, I NEED Reminderfox because that's where I keep a whole lot of helpful reminders pertaining to my business. So I reinstalled the Reminderfox addon and "POOF... Firefox is basically corrupted all over again".

I sure would appreciate some help in resolving this problem. It's driving me absolutely nuts and as far as I'm concerned I have already wasted enough time with it. I really don't want to have to go back to Chrome but right now... that seems to be my only choice.

For years I could add bookmarks, but suddenly couldn't after an upgrade sometime in the last year or so - working one day, not the next. Figured out a clumsy workaround using the "Show All Bookmarks" window. Enough of that, Googled again for a fix. First I followed your tech notes and refreshed firefox - to test I added 2 new bookmarks, but then I couldn't add any more. Google again. Found tech note "Can't add, change, or save bookmarks - How to fix". Checked places.sqlite properties for read-only, was unchecked already - so, ok. Stopped Firefox and hid places.sqlite by renaming it places.sqlite-old. As promised, Firefox generated a new one, 10Mb instead of 70. I know that's the file in use because Firefox now has amnesia... history all gone (again as promised). In the good old days, when I right-clicked within a page, I recall clicking a star, then a dialog box opened that gave me access to the list of bookmark folders to select for the new bookmark. No more. When I click the star in the toolbar, it turns blue and moves over the bookmark icon, then turns white and nothing happens. When I right-click within the web page, the box opens that includes a star, click that, nothing happens. Control-D, no reaction. Any idea of what went wrong and how to fix it?

Since March 8th I have encountered several crashes per day of the browser, always when closing a tab.

The occurrence of this appears to be random, in that this can occur within a few seconds of the browser being opened of half an hour or so. Additionally the pages on the tabs being closed appears to be random. The number of tabs currently opened seems to not be a factor either.

The crash report of the last crash was 405af561-b918-47e6-9460-6c8f92160322

I followed the procedure to "Refresh Firefox" and reinstalled my addons but the crash behavior still occurred.

Even running the browser in safe mode has not fixed the crash problem.
