Firefox sends credentials in HTTP header to Apache2 for any subdirectory

Hello,

on an Apache 2.2 httpd I have configured a named virtual host like https://example.com:4711

This virtual host contains 2 reverse proxies for the /i/ and /apex/ subdirectories used for Oracle Application Express. In addition to this there is a subdirectory named /docs for some static documents which are independent from Oracle APEX.

Within the Apache virtual host configuration the /docs directory is password-protected using the directives "AuthType Basic" and "AuthName MyDir" inside a <Directory ...> section - this is working fine so far.

However, when being authenticated for the /docs directory, the credentials are also sent when requesting /apex/ or /i/ URLS - thus disturbing the Oracle APEX Authentication (which uses cookies). Doing some monitoring with Wireshark (after switching off SSL temporarily) shows that the credentials for the "MyDir" realm are sent in the HTTP header not only for /docs but just for every directory. After clearing the "Active Logins" the APEX login works fine again.

Tested with FF 60 ESR (as well as with old FF 45.9 ESR).

Is there any means to prevent this behaviour, i.e. that users do not have to clear "Active Logins"? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Markus

Hello ,

i am using Firefox browser on most of my devices and i really like it , but lately i noticed some shortcomings (plugins no more working outside Firefox ESR starting with FF52) and since i often visit RT noticed that embedded videos that refer to Twitter won't work on my systems that are limited to Firefox 45 on Macintoshs with MacOS X 10.5 till 10.8. Mac OS 10.9+ can install Firefox 45+ eg FF 52 or above , but for example on Mac that is running Osx Lion 10.7.5 and FF 45 this problem appears.

Here is a link to a site with embedded video that works on such a system https://www.rt.com/uk/441856-passenger-rant-rynair-flight/

instead when the embedded video is linked to twitter it won't show the video, like here https://www.rt.com/sport/441844-mourinho-temper-chelsea-khabib/

Is there anything i could do to make the video playable on Firefox 45?

Thank you very much for your great work at Mozilla!

I tried multiple times, there is also nothing in my spam folder, it looks like your confirmation mail is not sent.

As I first tried to send this message here, I had to create Firefox Account and I gave the same yahoo email address as I already use for Firefox Sync, then again I had to wait for the confirmation mail from you and ... no email arived! Only when I registered with my gmail, could I get the confirmation mail.

Firefox and yahoo seem to be not compatible

I need FF to display a column showing the keywords in the list of my bookmarks. How do I do that? There used to be an add-on for this called Revert Keyword Column and it worked, but it's been taken down.

FF ESR 45.7.0 Upgrading FF is not possible on this computer, I'm not allowed to and the people who could won't do it so don't tell me to do it. I go through this every time I have questions so don't waste your time telling me I need to upgrade.

Hello! I have a Firefox sync account so I can easily access bookmarks and whatnot when I travel clinic to clinic for work. While my account works fine on my main computer I typically use day-to-day when not traveling, whenever I try to log in to a new computer somewhere else, it does not work. I get the verification email, which I click to verify, then it says I have to activate it. I click the activate button in the new email, then it tells me I have to verify my email again. It becomes an endless loop of verifying and activating without actually verifying my email and allowing me to completely log in and sync to my new computer. This has happened on multiple computers in varying locations over a long period of time. Does anyone have any answers as to why this happens and what I can do to fix it? Am I doing something wrong on my end? It is quite an inconvenience to not be able to access what I need because syncing won't work. I appreciate any help given. Thank you!

The current bookmarks include text, which is totally unnecessary IMHO, especially after using IE (although MS loused up this in edge too.) Having many book marks to go to and seeing the loss of convenience when having to go through another menu to find the desired bookmark, why not have the ability to use small icons? Why not make it simpler? Why not make it easy? Why not live up to the propaganda of being a better browser?

I like to play flash games. Sometime around Firefox v 50 or so, it stopped supporting flash players and I've had to uninstall it and reinstall an older version that works with my games. Some people with newer machines found they could eventually get a flash player working on the newer ones but it was very laggy and most of them also ended up downgrading their Firefox. Does this Firefox Quantum that I just got an email about actually work with flash games?

I installed Firefox 45 yesterday, and included my favorite addons, including maff support.

I was very careful to check "Never check for updates" and un-check "Use a background service to install updates."

This morning maff would not work, and I found Firefox version 52 on my machine.

I have extremely expensive, bandwidth-limited internet, and it is very disappointing to see how windows will decide to uncheck "never update" and other applications (looking at you, Chrome!) also spend my money without permission. I am sorry to see Firefox engaged in those same bad behaviors.

does anyone have any tips on how to force Firefox to stay the same? I have zipped up the directories, so if this happens again (count on it, right?) I will see if just unzipping will restore it back to what I expect.

Is there an easier way?

Thanks!

Is data replaced or merged? How is conflicting data managed (same preference key but with divergent setting)?

This "Firefox Sync" feature seems to be rather poorly documented—or I just don't know where to look for the detailed information I'm seeking and there are not any obvious links from the 'regular' support pages.

I have multiple devices, all of which have been setup and in use for some time. I would like to merge the bookmarks and other data, but I've had bad experiences in the past with other sync services resulting in significant losses so I'm wary; especially when there is really absolutely NO useful/helpful information about what happens to data (on both/all devices) when a new device is added...

Any information will be helpful and greatly appreciated!
