Fake FireFox Security Warning, Your update is ready

I clicked on a link to go to page 2 on a message board. A tab opened to a different web address. Below:

FireFox Security Warning https://oolultopwereldvastgoed.net/f090e423edf3bd6d8558c3082c3ec74e.htm...

Check attached srceenshot.

The tab seemed to opened exactly at the same time I clicked on the page 2 link. This could have been a coincidence, that at the same time I clicked, the tab opened. The weird thing is there was no history of the said site in "Show All History".

I did a malwarebytes scan with zero threats identified. I did a full scan with MSE antivirus software with no threats identified.

I still do not know how this tab appeared. Or were it came from and how it was generated.

My computer at the moment seems to be functioning correctly. I have also tried to recreate it by clicking on the page 2 link with no results.

Because I did not download this fake update, does this mean my computer is not infected?

All of a sudden the "Awesome bar" has stopped working. I type something in and no suggestions appear. It's happened on both my PCs: a portable (WIN 8.1) and a desktop (WIN XP SP3). I'm running the latest version FF 43.0.2 on both devices. I've never had this problem before (been using FF for many years). I'm not sure if this problem has appeared with this latest version, or in the previous one. The normal "search bar" is working correctly, but I desperately need the "awesome bar" back.

The portable PC seems to have fixed itself a few days after giving up on trying to fix it. Now I'm getting the same thing with my desktop.

My settings are as follows on BOTH the PCs, so if one works correctly I don't see why the other one doesn't.

In Tools > Options:

Search tab -Verified "Provide search suggestions" is selected -Verified "Show search suggestions in location bar results" is selected

Privacy tab -Verified all options are selected -Verified "Firefox will:" Remember history

Following FF's support documentation, I've verified "about:config" the following: browser.urlbar.autoFill;true browser.urlbar.autoFill.typed;true signon.autofillForms;true

Any advice would be welcome.

I am using Firefox 43.0.2 (43.0.1 would always crash few seconds after start) on Windows Vista. I have tried uninstalling Firefox and making clean install. When I try to visit any URL (like www.google.com or about:healthreport) nothing will happen, no error message, no loading, just a very short loading icon hints that Firefox have tried something. Only URL like about:config and about:license seams to work.

Just started happening a few days ago. Firefox had crashed itself (as it does from time to time) upon loading again it asked if I wanted to restore lost tabs, I said no so I could start fresh. Now when I try to click a bookmark, load up a page, type in a URL, Google something in the box it quickly confirms and stops right away (as if it is done) and all the tab says, still, is 'new tab' and nothing to show for it. As I am having to process this request through a different computer, I do not have details on my plug-ins at this time. I have recently updated to the newest Firefox edition. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the browser with no effect.

"This Connection is Untrusted"

"Technical Details: blabla.org uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it was signed using a signature algorithm that was disabled because that algorithm is not secure. (Error code: sec_error_cert_signature_algorithm_disabled)"

Whatever I do, I can't access this site. I go on it almost every day, so I know it's safe. At first, the "Add Exception" button wasn't even there at all, but after 2 hours of digging through the support forums I managed to get it to appear by Refreshing Firefox. But it doesn't work. So, I bring up the dialogue box, click "Get Certificate" and "Confirm Security Exception". But it doesn't let me go through to the site even with the exception stored. I even checked that the exception is stored under Options > Advanced > Certificates > View Certificates > Servers, and it's there!! So why is it, when I have the security exception permanently stored, that I'm still not allowed through?

First off: I was unable to upload a .png or .xlsx to this issue. Suggestions there? My issue: Bookmarks are being created everything I hit a web site that is already contained in my Bookmark folder. The results is I have over 7000+ web pages in dozens of newly created Bookmark folders and Bookmark Bars (up to 5 of those) that I did not intentionally create. I've attempted to delete them using the online instructions, but that is not working. Additionally, Firefox is now syncing with Safari on my iPhone - including all of the unnecessary bookmark and bookmark bars. I've disconnected the synch feature by following online instructions, but the systems are continuing to synch anyway.

Can anyone help me resolve a *maddening* (recent) issue:

BACKGROUND Currently using Firefox (v. 43.0.2 ) on a MacBook Pro (v.10.11.1) The issue (described below) only, but *always*, occurs at this web site, to which I go daily:

http://internacional.elpais.com/

It never occurs elsewhere.

NOTE: 1. The above URL is the web site for one of Spain's main, national newspapers. It's equivalent to NY Times in US, The Guardian in UK etc. 2. The problem has developed recently, and, as stated before - never occurs on any other web sites. Nor does it occur if I use Safari at this site (which I don't wish to do) !

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The above URL opens the following: (see screen shot attachment #1). Obviously, as it's a newspaper, the page content will change daily, but its format remains the same. And....that opening page is always fine (no issue there).

However, any and all links on that page will, in turn, open pages which are always divided into 2 vertical columns or panes. (See screen shot attachment #2). And the link (just clicked on) always opens in the left hand column . The right hand pane always contains links to "Latest News", "Latest Videos", "Recommended Articles". etc. etc. etc. going down the length of the page. It takes up almost 1/2 the width of the screen.

And ......***that entire right hand pane flashes on and off, like clockwork, every 6 seconds - or more precisely - it's ON for 6 seconds, OFF for 1 second, ON for 6 seconds, OFF for 1 second, ON..........ad nauseum....making it almost impossible to concentrate on what one is attempting to read (in Spanish!) in the left hand pane!!!***

It's totally distracting and finally untenable. (See screen shot attachment #3 - taken 1 second after attachment #2 - and you'll see the right hand pane has momentarily disappeared, leaving empty space).

I'd be grateful for any insight into what might be causing this one web site to behave so annoyingly. Since I'm not experiencing this issue (or any issue, for that matter) elsewhere and since this does not occur if I use Safari - I have to surmise there is a weird interaction between Firefox and that specific web site.

But what might it be?

Google isn't helping. I have no idea where this obnoxious and intrusive POS came from. I uninstalled all extensions (except the Canonical-supported Ubuntu customizations, which can only be disabled) and I'm still getting Offers4U.

But every answer I turned up, even here on the Mozilla support forum is for Windows or Mac OS X. Those are unnecessary and irrelevant to me. I could simply "sudo apt-get purge firefox" and be through with it, but then it removes 98% of my installed system. There is no, repeat, no way that I can run anti-malware software in Linux. So, that answer will be ignored. In fact, WINE will not let you run Windows software that deals with low-level details (the Linux kernel in fact blocks it).

I even tried running Bleachbit to see if that was the case. Still shows up.

I'm running out of options here.
