In Firefox video frames don't scale properly. This affects both HTML5 videos e.g. youtube.com and Flash videos e.g. twitch.tv. When switching to Cinema view in youtube, or closing the side panels in twitch, the frame will extend to the left and right, leaving black bars at the side, but the video does not scale and the frame does not increase in height. I don't have the issue in Safe Mode and also not in Chrome. However I still have the issue in Firefox with all extensions disabled. I tried to delete cookies, cache and refresh Firefox, but the issue still exists. I also tried to disable Hardware acceleration in both the Flash Player and Firefox, but that also does not solve the issue.

every time i open a new tab it tries to open a web page called "mystartsearch.com". this address stays there for a couple of seconds before my Virus program "McAfee - website security" takes over and says Warning trouble ahead Whoa!

Are you sure you want to go there?

http://www.mystartsearch.com/newtab/?type=nt&t... may be risky to visit.

Why are you seeing this?

When we visited this site, we found it exhibited one or more risky behaviors. Accept the Risk Back

also every time when I am using a legit web page and click on a link to refresh the page I am on I get a toolbar above the web page open and say "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page. ALLOW X"

and another thing that happens is I get an error message everytime there is an update to firefox and the only way to update is to remove the current version and do a manual update. But unfortunately these errors continue to follow the updates. My AntiVirus software Mcafee says there are no viruses or threats on my pc but it is blocking suspicious incoming network connections from IP addresses 10.0.0.9, 10.0.0.121 , 204.79.197.200 , 125.56.183.54 and a few others, several times an hour every day

I've uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted all profiles, viewed and attempted every suggestion that was found via search engine. Firefox will only start with -P option and creation of new profile. After clicking on a link to a page that opened in a new tab, all of the tabs in my browser window stopped working properly (i.e. I couldn't close them, make new tabs, or go to a previous page), and restoring my session turned them into "new tabs" with no way of accessing their previous content (the number of tabs is the same). See attached image for reference, the Firefox tab is the only one made after the session restore. The browser thinks it restored the session properly, as the "restore previous session" option is greyed out. Restoring a backup version of my profile folder to one from two days ago just reverts the saved history, notably, the "recently closed tabs" list was not reverted to the backup version and shows tabs that I closed earlier today. These tabs function normally.

With Firefox in Linux, when I try to view a video on video.pbs.org, I see a black rectangle with the message "Error loading player: No playable sources found." I do not have Flash installed in any form on my computer and the videos play fine under Chromium or GNOME Web, so it seems like they are using HTML5 and I am not missing a codec. I tried using a new profile with Firefox 40 and Firefox 42 (Nightly) (with and without Safe Mode) but the behavior was the same as the above. I have the H264 plugin installed. From looking in Chromium, it seems the videos use JW Player. Is there anything that can be done to get these videos to play under Firefox? If not, is there a bug tracking the problem and if not what information would be helpful to provide in opening a new bug report about this?

For two weeks now Firefox has been locking my computer. NOT on start but maybe 5 to 10 minutes after. I've followed the above troubleshooting/corrective actions and still have the problem. The computer does NOT lock up using Google Chrome. I prefer using Firefox, however. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, using Windows Vista 64 bit I am going to try creating a new profile and see if that works. If it doesn't, what would I need to do? Well it didn't. Any other suggestions. OR am I just going to have to us Google Chrome?

I’ve been using firefox for a long time. I can’t enumerate all the great things this software brings. I care about privacy, and there is a particular thing I love about firefox: it is how it let me have a control over the web that appear in my little window. So, if a website doesn’t care about privacy, I can apply it myself, by tweaking it thanks to this highly configurable, privacy-caring software. There has been tons of issues and debates over the years, and it is perfectly normal. FF guys are doing a great job to improve the software and I can’t thank them enough for that.

However, among all these little annoyance, something truly disturbs me. Back in the days, I remember struggling with privacy windows. If I opened multiple private windows, why the websites still can recognized me? Until I understood privacy windows are a SINGLE other profile (erased at startup), which, of course, share the same local space. Why is it called private windows? It isn’t. Not at all. It is the same thing as opening a different browser next to firefox, but doesn’t improve my privacy more than standard windows, especially for a user like me, used to remove all private datas once in a while. Call it “side profile”, make a different colored windows, I don’t know, but it has the wrong name: it’s not true “private windows” from a web perspective, and it bother me because I still think it is a trick, not understandable by common users.

Then, a few months ago, I’ve been really annoyed several times: when I log in to my gmail account, I’m automatically logged in to youtube. I don’t have a youtube account. Google made one for me. Everytime I discovered google was watching me watching videos, I felt betrayed. Of course, this in particular is not your problem. But I trusted my favorite web browser to defend me against this forced mercantile attempt to bargain with my life. I tried several plugins. Google is smarter. I used the “cookie exception” blacklist to remove youtube.com. It works but the list is destroyed everytime I clear local datas or update the browser. So, I set “Accept Third Party Cookies” to never. It’s drastic. And, above all, it doesn’t work with google! As if there was a king of the internet. I’m stunned... Somehow, it still succeed to share cookies between different domain names. Am I the only who thinks this is a giant security hole? Unless there is an internal whitelist somewhere...

TL;DR =======

I don’t want SSO. I don’t want to exchange parts of my life to have a little more convenient web. I just try to keep control and this time I have the feeling I’m doomed.

How google can gather cookies from its domains, with third party cookies turned off? Is that a bug? Is it because I’m doing something wrong? How come I make great efforts to protect my privacy, and my firefox, the most privacy caring browser out there, fails me on this specific point? How can I disable this behavior once and for all?

Sorry if it’s long, but I also think it’s needed for you to have my feedback, because I know some people don’t understand why it’s important to me. Thanks for your help.

Hello all,

FYI - I am on a gaming rig/machine with 16GB ram and one of best GPUs. I'm on Win 7 SP1 ( dont ask me to upgrade to win 10 pls!) and my firefox is latest version.

For umpteenth times in last few months, I kept getting problems with firefox especially black or white screen or sometimes nothing on firefox (see screenshots).

I have disabled hardware acceleration for last 3 months and the problem persists.

I have created new profiles for few times and the problems still persists.

It was a last straw when the firefox is cleverly showing something on my option page of Firefox....by blanking it! WOW!, Genius programmers of Firefox. Old option version is more reliable than this new option version for sure.

It seems that it is not due to corrupted profiles nor corrupted GPU of mine (it has got latest stable version).

It seems that the firefox architecture is poorly designed or what? Shall I downgrade Firefox then? I am getting fed up to see black screens repeatedly every few hours which I forced-shutdown firefox via task manager and the firefox then worked properly after that (of course I launched it after force-shutdown it).

Someone said that firefox approaches to websites by loading "top to bottom" method, code-wise? Like some images or contents floating on the page as loaded by firefox? isn't that fundamentally rubbish method? You suppose to load the webpages from the bottom to top, not the other way.

I am tempted to switch back to IE since it never have any graphic problem unlike firefox. Speaking of other browsers - I have tried several browsers like Opera, Google and so on and none of those have problems unlike this firefox!

It seems that Firefox is not testing its coding too well for graphic purpose, or Firefox's QA channel is failed in graphic department?

Rant aside - anyone has got REAL solution to get rid of this persistent graphic problem with firefox? Or can I downgrade firefox???

Thanks a lot! FED UP loyalist firefox
