As above. FF installed the update despite the checked option to NOT install automatically. NO "old firefox" folder was created-anywhere. No other profile is present that has the old data. My adult daughter's grad school laptop. Years of bookmarks, logins and I do not know what all ARE GONE!! I allowed FF to download but NOT INSTALL-since it was not my machine and I wanted to avert any disaster (I, in fact, looked at the options first, to make sure) NOW WHAT?? Is that is a bug?? Why was there no "old FF" created? Why did it install regardless of instructions to the contrary. Is there some other place to look? She does not seem to have any automatic backups for FF profiles.

In the admin account and all user accoutns, I had Firefox > Options > Advanced > NO UPDATES and turned OFF "Use a background service to install updates."
I created a new account on this computer. The VERY FIRST THING I did was go to Firefox > Options > Advanced > NO UPDATES and turned OFF "Use a background service to install updates."
Guess what. It updated. It updated for all accounts.
I've easily lost four work days of time in the first 8 months of 2019 because of FIrefox updates. I need a way to stop updates. ALL updates. FOREVER. ALL UPDATES UNCONDITIONALLY BLOCKED. No leakage. I do not want them with a goat. I do not want them on a boat. I do not want them here or there. I do not want them anywhere. Is there any remaining ambiguity?
The ways described above don't cut it. So let's think unconventionally. Is there a file I can set the protections on, so Firefox's update balks and gives up? Can I create a file that has a name that Firefox update expects, and give that file some content or property so that Firefox update fails?

Hello,
I see this issue happened for other people but I coudnt find the right answer :
I am on Linus and whatever the version I take (latest I tried is 67.0b9), I have an error trying to run it in command line.
$ ./firefox (or with the -headless I tried too)
- PCOMGlueLoad error for file /local/vestbin/oxygen-uat/drivers/firefox/libnspr4.so
- cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.
I checked all preriquisites and installed GTK3 but Still have the error.
What could it be ?
Thanks and Regards, Jeremy.

I am using Windows 10. Firefox 44.0 crashed. When I tried to reopen it it said a duplicate was running. I checked the Task Manager, there was no Firefox listed. Then I removed Firefox 44.0 and rebooted my machine and reinstalled Firefox 44.0. It said the same thing but when I clicked to close it, this time it said the profile was missing. I removed FireFox 44.0 and rebooted my machine. I downloaded the latest version from Mozilla's website and tried to install it but it tells me that "For some reason it could not install the latest version" and to try to start it again.

Should have send everyone email warning of this. New account creation page should have option to enter existing UserName & be sent an email, so you know what email was being used. Over the years there have been many. Also different emails for "Get Satisfaction" (Is that defunct?) & for sending questions to Developers and AddOn authors...
I used the address that I found searching old email for announcements sent by Firefox/Mozilla, so it SHOULD be the one I used "here."
New to Firefox. Just installed on Win 10 & "unable to connect."

Usually upgrades are automatic with a progress bar showing completion... I don't ever recall a Firefox Upgrade in the format:
"Firefox would like to make permanent changes to your Hard Drive" [.sic]
I've had some Malware issues lately so I am suspicious of this unfamiliar format.
Thank You for your assistance with this matter...
Where am I to look or expect your response?? Through my Email Address would be just fine.

I have firefox quantum v66.0 (64 bit). When I check for updates under help/about an update download begins but then my computer crashes with an APC Index Mismatch stop code. When I log into firefox I get a page offering a down load of firefox quantum which I already have. Sometimes when open firefox I get a dialog box asking permission to update firefox. Clicking yes results in a blue screen crash with the APC index mismatch stop code. My operating system is Windows 10 home 64 bit. I can use firefox if I don't attempt the update but would like to have the latest features. Should I perform the offered download? Is there another solution.\?

How can I get them back? I've spent a lot of time with setting up Firefox so it would be comfortable to me, I've spent my time in it, and now it's all gone and I don't even remember the name of some add-ons I used to use.

Hi. I've been a loyal user to Mozilla Firefox for many years now. My concern is whenever I updated the browser from the past, It deletes my settings and extensions. That's whats keeping me from updating it for quite sometime now. So Im simply afraid to do it. For example. Part of my research entails an extension that downloads and converts from a video site. After an update this is removed. I have to re-install everytime. I so got tired of this. Its so annoying everytime it asks for updating, I have to opt out. Is there some way I can update this without messing up my settings? Has Mozilla already worked out a version without messing with my settings? Thank you for the help.

Was forced to upgrade to version 65 which broke the tabs on bottom setting. Tried to install a ESR version but it kept crashing. Went back to version 64 which was immediately forced to upgrade to the broken version again (which I didn't allow).
The problem is this. The people who have implemented this forced upgrade feature are probably using Windows 10 (forced updating) and are used to being treated like second class citizens by Microsoft. Forced upgrading is completely inappropriate. I've used browsers since Netscape, all of the Firefox versions, rarely use any other browser. Never had a problem except with your forced updates.
Lucky for me I found the registry fix for admins to disable updates. Reasonably inconvenient but a hell of a lot better than putting up with forced updates that break the browser.
Question:
How about bringing back the choice to upgrade. How about, at least giving two reminders to upgrade and then disabling the messaging. This messaging is extremely disrespectful - i.e. we are going to keep on annoying you until you upgrade (to a broken system).
How about someone to answer a question?

Sorry about the question above, but at least it seems to have gotten me somewhere I might be able to find an answer. I had Firefox up and working for years, though I had been using it rarely in the past couple of years. Still, I even had it "divided" between home and a couple of business versions (however that should be referred to). Then, tiring of Chrome (and hating Safari), I though I'd try Firefox again. When I cranked it up, I got a note that said I should update Firefox. So, like a reasonable user, I hit the go button, as it were. Smart move? My reply to that would involve many phrases and words not to be used in polite company. MY Firefox disappeared. Gone. Everything. Settings, bookmarks, "users." It was as if I had never, ever installed Firefox before. Virgin Firefox, one might say. Pure, unsullied, unused. So where the hell is MY Firefox? If I can get it back, I'll be delighted. If it indeed, as seems to be the case from my viewpoint at the moment, it is gone forever, then, well, sadly, I will be an ex-Firefox user forever. I can't see any reason for me to try to rebuild it all. Chrome may be annoying, but it does work and work well.
I'm using a Mac Mini. When I went to upgrade Firefox, I was using Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra). I have since downgraded (that's the only way to describe it) to OS 10.14 Mojave.
Any help would be appreciated.
