Hi, We are the computer support company for a client who is having an issue with Firefox.

Firefox will either not open, or it will open to a blank page and the client is unable to browse to anywhere.

Task Manager shows a number of instances of Firefox are running. Ending these tasks does not help.

The computer is running Windows 10 Pro - 21H2 - with all Windows updates installed. It has Webroot anti-virus. Google Chrome works OK.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, after renaming the folders in C:\Program Files and in C:\Windows\Users\Norma\AppData\Local and Roaming

Is there a current issue with Firefox that I am unaware of? I use it myself and I am not having any issues.

Manyy thanks

Firefox has been awesome. But, my computer just updated to windows 11 and now it doesn't work. Sometimes I try to open the browser and nothing happens (but I somehow end up with something like 7 instances of it running in the background, according to task manager), sometimes I get it to open, but it won't load my homepage or anything, and sometimes it seems to work fine but only for a little while - then it just stops responding.

I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. I tried the browser reset, which helped for a little bit but then the problems came back. I think having a theme installed makes it worse, but now I can't even get settings to open so I can try turning it off to see if that helps.

Any ideas? Not being able to use the internet on my computer is a pretty big deal. I'd prefer to not switch browsers, but I don't know what other option I've got at the moment.

Thanks!

After installing the beta FF 98.0b3 in order to work around the Webroot problem currently going on with v97, I've noticed that whenever I download something, the download popup window stays active until I click on something. I don't want to remove the download button because I want to monitor download progress, and at times, I DO want to look at specific downloads from time to time. But the fact that the window automatically pops up and stays there until I click on something is annoying.

I saw similar posts several years old about older versions which don't apply now.

So, is there a way to disable this thing without completely removing the download progress indicator from my toolbar?

Thanks again for the help!

Firefox updated automatically and stopped working correctly afterward. This included: instances of the browser not opening after closing all tabs (I have been unable to open Firefox again unless restarting/shutting down and booting up the pc again), webpages failing to load properly (seen in attached screenshot), links to websites or content like videos on YouTube failing to load if right-clicked and the option "Open Link in New Tab" is selected and must be clicked at least twice, otherwise they fail to load like in the screenshot, and hanging while connecting to some websites with certain addons active (namely google.com). I also have reason to believe trying to fix these issues crashed my computer by locking it into a perpetual loop of crashing, collecting error data, restarting, and crashing again. Going back to Chrome to write this, I have had no problems.

I have tried refreshing Firefox several times, disabled hardware acceleration in the options, reinstalled about three times after deleting all Mozilla folders on my pc, disabled browser addons one by one to determine if one of them was causing problems, and removed and added Firefox to my firewall's allowed connections at least seven times by now.

tl/dr; Firefox broke after it automatically updated and I tried every solution I could search up. The browser still isn't working. Please help?

Hello, I have not been having any issues with Firefox for about a year. Yesterday morning, when I came into the office and loaded up Firefox the same way I had been for a year, it was not behaving in the way I would expect. Web pages were not loading and I wasn't able to 'refresh' pages in the normal way. Firefox is basically unusable for me at this point. My firefox browser stopped working today. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice. Firefox will open once after a reinstall, but opening web pages is intermittent. When I close firefox and restart, nothing happens. If I go to task manager I can find some firefox processes running, but nothing is happening on my screen. I don't get any type of error message, just nothing. I've been using firefox without issue until today. I have a dell XPS 13 with Windows 10 Home.

If I restart computer, firefox will sometimes launch. Very frustrated, have used Firefox for 10 years on several machines with no issues. I am running Firefox 96.03 on a different laptop with no issues. Can I upload an older version of Firefox on my new laptop or can you help me fix the new version so it will work?

After the Firefox 97 upgrade, no pages will load. No hourglass. No error message. Just blank. Internal FF pages like about:config are the same. Ctrl + B for the bookmark sidebar works intermittently on new tabs, but not on the stuck/blank/non-loading URLs.

Tried reinstalling FF, no luck. 1 old profile worked briefly w/ 97, but only until the next restart. Creating a fresh profile w/ 97 had same error.

Reverting to FF 96 and everything works fine. Assuming you have a backup of your user profile, as 96 won't load the profile once 97 had broken/upgraded it...

This is a Dell Precision 7760 w/ Win 10 Pro, about 6 months old.

1 older machine, running Win 10 Home & synced FF to same account upgraded to 97 and is working fine.

Have temporarily had to disable auto updates until some way to solve this issue is found.

As of 4pm est 2/8/22, firefox was working fine, it updated around 10PM and has been broken ever since. I can't even get it to open except for right after a full computer restart. when it does open it's just a gray screen, can't even go into the settings. websites don't load. refreshing does nothing. reinstalling and refreshing does nothing. I don't even get an error message. chrome works. IE works. nothing on my end has changed. I have 2 extensions. ublock origin, and web shield. I've turned both on and off with no effect. I let it go for a day to see if it's something on mozilla's end, nothing doing. it's now 4pm est 2/9/22 and the problem still exists.

I run windows 10 home version 21H1, with full up to date drivers. that hasn't changed.

this only started when it updated to the most recent update.

Long story short, today I received v97. Firefox would no longer open websites. Settings would not open. about:config would not open. Tried killing my profiles. Complete clean installs. None of it worked. Something is 100% wrong with v97, at least for my system. I can install 94 no problem. 96.0.3 no problem. As soon as 97 hits, everything breaks.

I love firefox and would love to troubleshoot the issue, but it's not possible. Most of the time, v97 won't even open, so launching the troubleshooter mode is impossible. And if it does open, selecting troubleshooter results in a crash.

No idea if any of this is helpful, but this is what one of them spat out:

When attempting to load websites in firefox, i enter a URL into the address bar and hit enter and then... Nothing. It's like Firefox isn't even attempting to begin a connection to websites. I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstalls of the program, I have removed all extensions I can, I've attempted clearing my cache, none of these things worked. the version I have installed is 97.0.
