After refreshing Firefox because of a different (and now solved) problem, I restored my Old Firefox Data to recover my customization settings. The problem from before remained solved as well, so don't worry about that. The only problem is that now, for whatever reason, I can't delete any bookmarks. I can still add and edit bookmarks, but I can't outright delete them. My version is 73.0.1 (64-bit).

I've gone to about:support and checked Places Database. This is what it gave me:

> Task: checkIntegrity - Unable to check favicons.sqlite integrity: Error: Error(s) encountered during statement execution: database disk image is malformed > Task: invalidateCaches - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: checkCoherence - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: expire - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: originFrecencyStats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: vacuum - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: stats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: _refreshUI - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task.

A solution that I've seen elsewhere is to delete the "places.sqlite" file after closing Firefox and letting it reset, but that hasn't worked. Again, I can add and edit bookmarks, just not delete them. It doesn't matter where I try to delete them from (within the browser), and they all still link to the right places. It's not an emergency, but I'd appreciate help with this.

I refreshed Firefox because it kept crashing and loading slowly. My bookmarks didn't come back, and none of the backups will restore. I get the message "Unable to process the backup file." All the backups have zero bytes, but they show the number of items. There's also a message when I reopen Firefox that says "The bookmarks and history system will not be funtional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." but nothing else is running. I restarted my computer and it still says that. I tried deleting the favicons.sqlite and places.sqlite files and it made that message go away, but I still got the "Unable to process the backup file" message when I tried to restore my bookmarks.

I had a lot of important bookmarks in Firefox without signed in Firefox account on my old PC. Before moving away from that old PC, I signed in to firefox account to it connect Firefox data with my mail and account. I even tested that in way that I signed out from my account, removed all the data from Firefox, and when I signed in again, it was all there. It was about 5 months ago. Now, on my new PC, when I signed in with same account, there is no any those bookmarks. I tried to restore bookmarks, but it offers me only two time points in past for restoring, and none of those gives me back bookmarks or any other data. I didn't use that account with Firefox until now. Please help, there was a lot of important bookmarks to me for work.

I recently had to wipe my MacBook Air clean thus prompting me to download Firefox - version 70.01 (64-bit). I set up all of my work websites, history, passwords, emails, etc., but every time I close the browser and try to open it again, nothing is saved. I've tried several times and I am at a loss. Yes, I have created a Firefox account, and even this won't leave me logged in if I close the browser. I have to start over every time. Any advice?

This issue has been around for years with no actual solution. I recently finally got around to disconnecting three of my devices (laptop, Samsung tablet and Samsung smartphone) from Firefox Sync in order to determine if the problem is sync-related. The bookmarks toolbar on my main device (another laptop) were still being randomly rearranged. I therefore disconnected this laptop from sync as well. The bookmarks toolbar has since been stable with no rearranging. This is telling me that this is a sync issue, not an issue with a corrupt places.sqlite file, an add-on/plug-in or hardware acceleration, as previously suggested by Mozilla, which was then marked as a solution. Sync has often been quite useful, but since I have my bookmarks (folders) arranged in alphabetical order on the toolbar for quick access and use them all frequently, I'd rather forego sync than deal with constant reordering of the bookmarks toolbar. I gather from what I've read that this problem also exists in the Google Chrome web browser. Even if the problem is a corrupted places.sqlite file, surely the sheer number of users experiencing the issue would suggest a bug or vulnerability with that file, irrespective of what add-ons are installed since the likelihood of all those users having the same add-on(s) installed is probably minimal. Surely it's about time Mozilla properly investigated (e.g. what add-on(s) is causing the issue, how the places.sqlite file can become corrupted, how sync is causing the problem, etc., etc. and disseminating the findings to users) and actually solved this issue instead of expecting users (the IT-savvy ones at least) to waste time doing their own futile troubleshooting. I really don't think that I should have had to disconnect from sync in order to "fix" this problem.

After starting Firefox, Sync starts and gets stuck on "Syncing" till I restart. Ever page shows as bookmarked for a while and then they all turn into not bookmarked. Backups won't be saved. Changes to bookmarks and adding new ones won't work either. Have tried a new profile, deleting xulstore.json and places.sqlite and have also tried safe-mode and all of them together. The sync is still in a loop. I have about 56000 bookmarks(I know that's a lot!) but it didn't use to take more than a few seconds. And not being able to see the last sync time by hovering really sucks as well btw.

I am a very organized person and I expect my bookmarks to be neat and organized. I noticed yesterday that my bookmarks were all jumbled and out of place. My folders were no longer nested but all unorganized. Fortunately, I had a backup, so I restored it, only for it to get jumbled again. So, I signed out of all devices, selecting to delete everything. So, I imported my backup, and everything is fine. I logged back into Firefox on the computer that I imported the backup to, and again, everything was screwed up.

So, signed out again, chose the option to delete everything and restored the backup again. That is where I am right now. I am thinking something is corrupt with my account, but I do not know how to fix it. I was hoping that someone could help me. I have looked through the support documents, but I have yet to find one that helps me. I am running Windows 10 on four computers, Linux Mint on one and three Raspberry Pies with Raspbian. I also have two Android phones. I have had this setup for quite awhile with no problems until now.

My history is not showing, my auto entry is not showing, and my bookmarks are all not loading. I have tried importing and exporting as well. Export is blank(nothing is happening), When I try to import from the Auto-Backups (I did not make manual saves), it says Unable To Recover File.

I have looked in the browser for profiles, and it shows only the one currently in use, no old profiles show.

Any help would be appreciated!

This dirty trick required to move a single bookmark folder from one Firefox profile to another stopped working for me for some reason. I tried different firefox versions, including the one from portableapps.com, I tried starting the second instance with -no-remote switch. Nothing worked. When I tried drag&drop between the instances there was the blue feedback dash indicating the place where the folder was going to be dropped in the target Library window. But nothing happened. I tried holding Ctrl as well, also using Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V key combinations.

Is this a known issue? Has a recent version of Firefox removed this ability?

Foxfire auto updated the program and it lost all bookmarks and even login. The result is I cannot do anything with my computer that needs the internet. I have spent many hours trying the suggested fixes and I cannot get them back and I do not have my password so that I cannot change if for fear I will loose access to the bookmarks. There seems to be no accountability from Mozilla and no way to reach any one. Is anyone else having this problem.

I recently asked Microsoft a question. I said is it possible updates have slowed my computer. While the answer was sort of fuzzy, they suggested that I use click to play and use Flashblock. But, they then said Firefox has made their browser not be able to use Flashblock and Flash is going to be used, regardless with Firefox. Can someone explain what is happening if someone whats to use Flashblock? Secondly, my computer has gotten slower in the last few weeks. Is it possible a Firefox update is causing the slowness? I have a functioning security system and I defrag and clear the disk periodically for my maintenance. Thank you.

I need to get rid of the old bookmarks, default to the latest. How the heck do i do that? Help just doesn't seem to cover it, none of the articles i can find cover it, and if i try to edit, i have to delete one at a time, with no hope that will get me the latest (5/14/19) up as the default, especially the toolbar. I do NOT want to have to do it one at a time to change from 2015 to now! I can't upload the screenshots, Firefox saays too big and doesn't give an option to reduce.

I hate that I have to ask this.... I have been trying to import my username/passwords from Chrome to Firefox for weeks. I'm using the Firefox built in Import tool. It just simply doesn't work. A couple of weeks ago it did actually import 1 site/username/password. Then today I was able to get 1 more. Both of these were sites that I used Chrome to sign into recently, like it cached them or something and thus were able to be imported into Firefox. But all the others that are saved in Chrome will not come over. I just don't get it. There is really nothing to it, so I know I'm doing it right. Options>>Privacy & Security>>Saved Logins>>Import>>>Select Chrome as browser to import from>>(Deselect cookies, browsing history, bookmarks) Saved Passwords selected>>Next>>Finished. Nothing.

Maybe I should uninstall Firefox and reinstall it and see I can do it from a fresh install. I don't know. Very frustrating.

Version 66.0.3 64 bit.

Thanks

I have deleted bookmarks several different times from the Bookmarks Toolbar. Some are individual bookmarks and others are entire folders. Yet, the next time that I open Firefox those bookmarks have been re-inserted onto the Bookmarks Toolbar. Also, individual bookmarks (many of them duplicates) are being inserted into Folders that are supposed to be there.

It is a never-ending battle.

I am not synchronizing bookmarks or anything else right now (all of the boxes are unchecked) but it is still happening.

How do I stop this madness?
