I'm getting the following error message:

The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem.

I don't know what prompted this concern on my Windows 11-based laptop, but I only noticed this last night doing some research for another issue. I don't have any of my bookmarks showing up in the bookmarks section, nor will it allow me to click the star on any tab to bookmark the page. I have restarted and shut down my laptop several times and this is not solving the concern. Let me know if you need more information or if I need to start this inquiry again elsewhere, but again it sounds like the same concern.

I have included a screenshot of the exact error for accuracy's sake. Like everyone else here, I'm trying to get my bookmark and history access back up and running but not sure how to go about it.

I couldn't get past the first fix suggestion because I am not sure how to restart Firefox (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?as=u&utm_source=inproduct&redirectslug=The+bookmarks+and+history+system+will+not+be+functional&redirectlocale=en-US). I have restarted my laptop several times but the issue still persists.

Please advise.

Ironically, I am not having this issue on my older PC that is still operating on Windows 10. I can view history and access or add bookmarks with no concern to my knowledge.

Firefox has been my default browser for many years. Every update has made the program less user friendly. I can no longer ready access shortcuts and the number of tiles has been greatly reduced. Previously I had a row of shortcuts on the bookmark toolbar. They no longer show up. Sadly Google does everything I appreciated Firefox for. So Chrome is now my default browser. I have no idea why Mozilla decided to change their once great browser into a total loser.

Hi I have lost all my bookmarks. I bought a new device. On downloading Firefox the the bookmarks toolbar was Google's. Now Firefox on my other devices has the the Google bookmarks toolbar. Help please.

somehow i lost my Youtube in the task/ bookmark tool bar i was trying to add something and it had book mark bar up there i removed it and now i can no longer put you tube in there any more i have tried taking it from bookmark and from desktop and from anywhere i had it saved and tried dragging it up to the mar but i can not what can i do to get it there

Thank you for a wonderful browser. I've been using Firefox for decades. Please, please give us the option for a second favorites bookmark toolbar. It is so need. Other browsers offer this, but right now, Firefox does not. Please, please add this. No add-on is available for this. Please!

i WAS BROWSING AND GOING THROUGH SOME OF MY FIREFOX FAVORITES AND I highlighted a FEW (NOT JUST ONE!) and clicked the delete button on accident. Is there any way of getting them back? I havent backed up a copy of them recently eitherr. Now Im all bumbed out!! :-(

I asked this same question yesterday and a little while later, the horizontal bookmarks toolbar "magically" appeared. Now the toolbar is gone again. How can I find it and get it to stay at the top of my page? (I'm an 80-year-old granny/computer-dummy.) Thanks in advance for any help.

Click on bookmarks, the drop-down menu appears, click or move cursor on an entry in the list, the new drop-down-menu of 2nd level appears. If the list contains many entries the 2nd level drop-down menu overrides 1st level. This does not happen with firefox preceding version. Note: attaching a picture because a webm video is not accepted.

beim Erstellen eines Lesezeichens (Strg+D aus dem aktuellen Tag heraus) wird dieses nach ~3 Sekunden automatisch angelegt.

Das Verhalten dieser Funktion ist äußerst(!) ärgerlich. Es kann vorkommen, dass sich der Dialog direkt vor dem Anfassen mit der Maus bzw. dem Erkennen / sehen / user action im Bereich des Fensters einfach schließt.

Das Lesezeichen wird dann zwar erstellt, aber in diesem use case muss es nochmal angefasst werden.

Könnt ihr bitte eine Möglichkeit schaffen, dieses automatische Speichern & Schließen-Funktion zu unterbinden? Sollte es schon eine Möglichkeit dafür geben, bin ich offen für Erklärung.

Clicking "bookmark current tab " does not offer dropdown menu to assign bookmark location. Clicking "bookmark current tab" places bookmark in last used bookmark folder. Workaround is to "edit bookmark" and assign desired location.
