When I brought Firefox up about a week ago, it presented me with a survey, results of which were sent to Firefox developers. They asked several multiple choice questions about features, but they didn't ask a very important question: Would you use Firefox more if it used less system memory? I currently use Google Chrome for about 2/3 of my web browsing because Firefox uses up too much system memory. I would prefer to use Firefox most of the time, but can't, since it bogs down when memory usage gets too high.

The survey should have included a text input box so users could enter any comments for the developers, and the survey did NOT do that.

So, after completing the survey, I was disappointed that I couldn't comment on the most important issue I have with Firefox. I would like the Firefox dev team to try get Firefox's use of system memory down. A short while ago, I opened 4 websites in Google Chrome, then opened the exact same 4 websites in Firefox. The attached shows the memory usage of each browser.

Firefox windows not visible, minimisable, or maximisiable on desktop

I had two Firefox windows on my computer, one with a few tabs of Youtube and Twitch pages, and a private window with a single Twitch stream. I've had them and the program open for days, with my conputer turned on and off multiple times with no issues.

Today I booted a game I installed yesterday on my computer and played for a few hours, after closing the game, both my Firefox windows became completely inaccessible.

I've tried closing firefox, restarting my computer, letting Firefox create a new xulstore file and nothing has worked. I can't see the window, I can't make it active. It's permanently minimised.

It spikes Desktops Windows Manager to 100% GPU usage, it makes my PC lag and run slow, and I can't do anything in the browser cause the window won't stay open or up. I can't even open the old window and then a new one, it stays minimised and I can only see the preview by hovering my mouse over it.

I've tried GPU driver updates, I tried anti virus scanning, and I've tried opening another browser which did work. But Firefox is the one with all my saved settings and preferred browser. I also can't see the Firefox window at all when using the window key + TAB to check my desktop, but it does show up on Task Manager as running.

Please help me restore my program. I'm making this on my phones firefox browser which is running fine

I have an issue where my firefox freezes whenever I try to take certain actions inside home assistants music assistant. I have created the following profiler of the issue https://share.firefox.dev/4pPZRPo

I have tried all the recommended settings to mitigate these kinds of problems (remove hardware acceleration, set disable all addons). I don't know where to report this exactly, but I'm hoping someone might be able to see something from the profiler that could illuminate what exactly is going wrong?

Notably this issue does not happen in firefox private mode.

Your browser dead ass just doesn't respond when I click on it. I have a new mac mini 4 and have the latest update for firefox. it's absolute dogshit to be honest. I'm lucky if the browser lets me click on anything, eg., bookmarks, add-ons, history are nonfunctional. Also my tabs on the browser get squished together and superimposed such that 2-3 separate tabs appear as though they are one tab. I have never had an issue like this before when using firefox. I don't encounter the issue with safari or chrome, but I don't like those browsers. Do you have insight as to why firefox mozilla is suddently ass?

OS: Linux Recently, firefox has been annoying me with not closing a tab when I click the X like normal. I have to right click and close it, or press ctrl w. I am unable to move tabs around, as well. I am not sure since when this next bit has been happening, but I am also unable to interact with many elements of the top bar. The only thing of the firefox ui besides the websites themselves that let me interact with them at the moment is the home button, the new tab button, bookmarked sites, and that box icon on the left corner that lets you look at previously closed tabs. My Firefox's version should around, I believe it is 140.5.0 ESR. Thank you in advance. Update: Upon a restart of firefox, it appears to be working again as normal.. However, the bit with tabs not closing when the X is clicked and not being able to move tabs around has been happening multiple previous times, and it may come back. Update again: The issue does come back after some usage. I'm using KDE plasma with Wayland. I will try what the answer asked, and come back later. Update: This seems to happen very randomly and is not reproducible for me.. It will go a few days being fine, then randomly freeze again. Has not happened under another user, at least not yet.

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that Firefox tends to use a lot of memory when I run several browser-based tools at once — especially web calculators or dashboards that update data dynamically.

For example, when I’m testing a lightweight web calculation app (something similar to a gratuity calculator that updates values in real time), Firefox memory usage slowly increases, and sometimes the browser even freezes if multiple tabs are open.

I’ve already tried:

Clearing cache and disabling extensions

Running in Safe Mode

Using hardware acceleration on/off

Still, the problem persists.

So I’d like to ask:

1. Are there any specific settings or flags that can help manage memory usage better for interactive web tools?

2. Does Firefox handle JavaScript-heavy calculations differently compared to Chromium-based browsers?

3. Any recommended performance tweaks for developers testing such tools locally?

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who’s optimized Firefox for this kind of lightweight, web-app testing.

Thanks in advance! 🙏 bold text

Anyone else having an issue with the newest firefox in Linux Mint? I don't know what's causing it but when multiple tabs open my address bar and all other primary buttons/icons (including the menu button) don't work, only the download button. Across multiple tabs. Not using any groupings/classifications or any "new" tab features or vertical windows etc.

I can complete the sign in and enter my password, and then I get a spinning wheel and can no longer click on the tabs or minimize the window. I have to force close it and it shows as not signed it. I've also tried signing in using my phone and the QR code, same thing. This happens with or without 2FA, I turned it off and the issue persists. Everything else about the browser works completely but I can't sync across devices without the Mozilla login working.

I am using a new Windows 11 computer. I use Firefox for almost everything. But it opens many processes and it very quickly gets to the point where anything I do causes a hang. If I am listening to music or a podcast it pauses and buzzes. This AM I turned on the computer and opened Firefox, without reopening an old session. I had open two windows with two tabs in each window. Using Windows Task Manager I determined that Firefox has twenty-one processes open. Some of them have the efficiency leaf and some do not. I do not use an Add-On manager, but use MalWareBytes for a VPN and protection. Please help.
