Hi,

I noticed that the shortlinks/websites on my startpage (the House icon) are placing cookies as soon as I start Firefox. Not all of them and also in a random manor. This does not happen in Private Navigation, which i almost never use.

For me this is rather strange, I do not visit these shortlinks and already being tracked by those cookies. How can this be changed?

My settings are to clear all cookies and history at closure. Subquestion: Do I need to choose Options/Close or does this also work by clicking the X in the right upperhand corner to close Firefox.

Hope someone can shed some light... Lasco

We have enabled the "Prevent changing proxy settings" policy from the Group Policy Management Console. However, we've encountered an issue where Firefox browser overrides this policy. It has come to our attention that Firefox is the only browser that allows users to change the default Windows proxy settings directly from the browser itself.

To address this, we want to prevent users from changing proxy settings via Firefox browser as well. Could you please provide guidance on how to disable this feature?

I'm looking for a reliable method to sync my Firefox bookmarks, browsing history, and settings across multiple devices while ensuring the security of my data. I want to make sure that my sensitive information remains protected throughout the syncing process. Can anyone recommend a secure solution or provide guidance on the best practices for setting up Firefox sync? Additionally, I'm interested in learning about any potential privacy considerations I should be aware of when using this feature. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi. I have two main Mac computers that I browse the web with, a 2020 iMac 27 with 6-core Intel i5 and Radeon Pro 5300 GPU. My secondary computer is an older mid-2012 MacBook Pro with dual core Intel i5 and HD Graphics 4000.

I am aware this Macbook is over a decade old now, and I plan on getting a much newer model within the next couple months. For now, I'll have to make do with this when my iMac is busy with other tasks (mostly rendering video). I have installed all the latest Mac OS updates the Macbook can support, which is Catalina, and Firefox is also the most current version 124.0.1 64-bit.

I tend to use Instagram via Firefox for the most part, and on the iMac, there are these little animations when doing things like double-clicking posts to like them, which causes a small flying heart to appear on the post for about a second. Flipping through multi-image posts is also animated when clicking the left and right buttons, resulting in a slide animation between photos. Small text pop ups also have animation as well.

However, using Firefox on my Macbook, those animations don't appear. I've enabled hardware acceleration, and the animations still don't appear. I've also whitelisted Instagram in uBlock Origin, and the result is the same.

I tested other websites that I can compare with the iMac, like Google Maps and the official Nintendo Animal Crossing website. Both sites run smoothly on my Macbook, with all animations functioning like they should, and Google Street view also being smooth with no visual glitches or other reduced functionality.

I will note the screen resolution on the Macbook is 1366 x 768 compared to the large iMac. My question is this... is Instagram disabling these UI animations on my Macbook due to it's age and/or screen size, is Firefox doing that, or is this a bug in regards to Mac OS Catalina?

These are very simple animations, so it's strange that they don't appear on my Macbook, despite it still being capable of showing web page animations with other sites. The Like animation in particular is helpful as it provides visual feedback to my preferred way of liking posts there.

You can ignore the rest of my questions if you have no time for this.

Hint: Seeing as most software search functions are highly inadequate, I can only expect that AI will slow the workings of all software-operated system to a crawl or to a screeching halt. I see such an obvious lack of willingness to make software work for most people, instead of for the few geniuses who think everything goes without saying, that I have no confidence in software people anymore.

Software was once a promise, 40 or 50 years ago. Now it more and more becomes a promise unfulfilled. And nobody wants to do anything about it. It's not even recognized as a problem. Sadly, this happens in Community operated software like Mozilla just like in the big for profit Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc enterprises. I am trying to be as kind as possible in this.

Extra credit: 4) Why does the search term "Version" produce zero result in Firefox "Settings"? Seems like a very, very common term.

5) I am pretty sure that "Sharing Trouble-shooting Information" will not help you with answering my questions. How much do you want to bet on that?

6) Why can't search software answer a question with another question, asking intelligently for more detail

in order to decipher what the initial question might require to be answerable?

Please help.

I have always loved Firefox. I started using it because it did not constrict the user to the limits of the narrow minded Microsoft Explorer (Edge). But, this latest update reminds me of what I came to Firefox for. I hope Firefox is not going to become the same way. This latest update (124.0.1) just didn't care about my bookmarks or extensions or anything. It just installed a new version and left it at that. I had several tabs open. Gone. I had several bookmarks. Gone. All extensions. Gone.

For a long time Firefox just updated and left all of those things in tact. What happened?? More importantly, does anyone know how to get these things back?

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you, Luke

After some time of idle, i.e. leave the computer for some time, say over night. No suspend or hibernate. Back to the computer next morning, unlock. Then Firefox appears frozen/hang, can't switch tab (clicking tab has no response, but not really frozen, sometimes responses after dozens of seconds of lag), page also has no response. Then after around half to 2 minutes, everything back to normal.

During the "hang", CPU load is load, no memory stress (swapping/paging).

Environment:

Firefox 123.0 (64-bit), (actually it bothered me for years)

Linux 6.6.15-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.6.15-2 (2024-02-04) x86_64 GNU/Linux

``` lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Debian Description: Debian GNU/Linux trixie/sid Release: n/a Codename: trixie ``` Not related to particular Linux and/or kernel version.
CPU: Intel or AMD, not related. RAM: 64GB/96GB, free memory more than enough.
I will gather more detailed info later.
I am running Firefox. When I open the Task Manager, it shows that there are 13 Apps listed for Firefox with 1 for Runtime Broker. I have only 2 tabs open. Task manager shows that all together the Firefox apps are using only 0.4% of CPU, but are using 521.3MB of memory. When moving around the different apps I am using, the non Firefox apps are running more slowly due to the amount of memory used by all these Firefox accounts. I want to know what are these apps and why are they there when I have only the 2 tabs open?
while reading an MSNBC or Fox News article (for example) from flipboard, suppose there is a video at the top of the article. But I don't want to watch that video... I just want to read the article that appears below it. So I start to scroll down, reading the article, and when the video scrolls off the screen at the top, a picture-in-picture with that video appears at the right side of the article, (sometimes blocking part of the article). If I had wanted to see the video, I would have watched the video! STOP these blasted picture-in-picure pop-ups.
Every time I look for help online, all I see is how to enable/disable the PIP controls, and no help on how to block PIPs themselves.
Sorry for the long post, but I don't know how else to describe the problem succinctly. Jerry (at wit's end)
