Recent issue, April 2024. Had version 124 Firefox on Win10 computer and went to Help - > About to have Firefox check for updates. This has worked just fine up until now. The message "Failed to check for updates." is shown in the About screen. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox with the same results. Have also un-installed Firefox, un-installed Mozilla Maintenance, then removed Firefox data from App Data folder in user directory, then re-installed with the same results. Also, now when I access a local media server, I keep getting the message "Firefox is installing components needed" and that never goes away. Any ideas?

No way to ASK a question in the Monitor section, there is no GET HELP button.

Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).

In general, getting to the "ask a question" button in the support website is like finding hens teeth.

Didn't there used to be a Discussions forum, where you could see all of the questions being asked?

Hey, so, I've seen this question a couple times when I searched, but (a) there didn't seem to be any solution and (b) they were all regarding Macs and I'm on Windows 11 v 23H2. I keep getting bubbles saying that Firefox wasn't able to check for updates- not that it couldn't download or install updates, but it couldn't search for one. I also did the "about Firefox" thing and it gives me the same message. Both of these have been going on for a couple days and I have attempted restarting Firefox multiple times and did a manual update [125.0.1 (64-bit)] just in case there was a problem there. Now, I've tried the tips from the other threads (turning off the proxy, checking any anti-update policies, and checking the add.update.url in the config settings) with no luck. So in an effort to either bump the question or get any Windows oriented answers... Thanks muchly

Hi, Before Firefox's Version 125.0.1 (64-bit) latest update I could download any file from my safe office environment, behind firewalls, VPN, ... Now despite of unchecking the "Block dangerous downloads" I'm still unable to download files. I have Windows 10 on my laptop.

Here are the steps: Click on a file, Save "File not downloaded. Potential security risk." Click on the message - Allow download The result is a file with content "HTTP Status 405 – Method Not Allowed".

Please help me to work the downloading again. I am aware of the safety but I want to switch off this feature.

Thanks in advance for help, Tibor

I have a very good PC (5800X3D, 7900XT, 32GB DDR4 3600), but Firefox (either the normal, canary and nightly version) can't play smoothly any 4K video (like the Borderlands trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU_NKNZljoQ ). 1440 and lower resolutions are fine, as are 4K videos on Chrome and Edge. FWIW, my CPU during 4K playback is barely used (1-2%), and my GPU's video codec (VCE) is used by around a third. Disabling HW accel makes things better, as it still stutters but it's (barely) passable. I already tried creating a new profile, but still it's the same.

As of today, I am unable to scroll with my mouse in google sheets. The scroll bar on the right disappears and I'm taken to the bottom of the spreadsheet and can't scroll back up. I have to use CTRL+Home and then the arrow keys to go down the rows. This appears to be only on Firefox. I tried a different browser and it worked fine.

James here. I CAN NOT find the Firefox application file location. There is no option to show file path upon right click of the desktop icon and I can not locate it in File Explorer. I am not sure when exactly problem started but for few months I have problem with automatic update of firefox. It properly detects update and downloads it but when I click to restart browser and apply update (this should close browser and display update install bar) nothing happens - browser simply closes. When I launch it again and go into "about firefox" again I see spinning circle next to "installing update". Of course this update never installs. When I close it for 2nd time and go into "about firefox" it goes back to "update ready to install, click to restart" - and again, when I click it browser simply closes without restarting and installing update. I tried removing my profile, using safe mode, disabling antivirus. Issue seems to be related to firefox itself. I also tried removing mozilla maintenance service but it did not help. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? For now only way for me to update firefox is manually download full installer from website and then it installs latest version without any problems - until next month comes and I have to update it again.

I have Startparge set as my default search engine. I used to type directly into the address bar (see first image).

Press Enter, and the Startpage results page for this search phrase would show up. Somehow, this has now changed. I press Enter, but the result is just the Startpage home page, with a blank search box (see second image). So I then have to type the same phrase in again in Startpage's own box. This just trips me up.

The crazy thing is that this only happens sometimes - but more often than not. I haven't seen it work right for weeks: I just did it now to make screenshots, and it worked wrong. I just did it again and it worked as expected: pressing Enter took me to Startpage's results.

Any clues how to change settings to fix this?

I installed one of the ad blockers, I can't remember which one. It's given me so much trouble that I thought to disable or delete it. I deleted the little icon ( a stop sign) that shows up on the far right of one of the menu bars (don't know the name of that bar but here it's the second one down). But websites still complain that I have an ad blocker. I've gone to 'add-ons and themes' but I can't find it. BTW, what's the difference between an add-on, a plug-in and an extension? Which one of those are ad blockers? How can I see and then delete whichever blocker I still have? Without the icon I can't even disable it for individual sites.
