I'm running Firefox browser 88.0 (64) bit, and have been trying since before Xmas to upgrade it to a newer version. It's installed on an older Dell laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (which I've also tried repeatedly to upgrade without success).

I've tried to upgrade both through the UI, but also tried using the command line in Terminal. Per advice in other threads, I've found the best mirror site and changed my settings to use that, but still no luck. Even the preliminary "sudo apt update" via Terminal fails; the first error tells me that the public key is not available. I assume that's the place to start, but don't know how to correct it.

I'm up against the deadline for updating my browser, and would very much appreciate any help you can provide. (Please note that I'm posting from a newer computer, so automatically generated info about my system won't apply. See the screenshots for that info).

My desktop PC is Windows 7 32-bit with Firefox version 84 = old version. But in Firefox "About Firefox" it says "Firefox is up to date with version 84. Need to install version 115 ESR for 32-bit tonight as some support is ending starting tomorrow. It was set to "check for updates but let me choose to install them". I unchecked that. Still says version 84 Firefox is "up to date". My sister used to handle software on this PC but she died and I'm just getting to this between estate paperwork. Apologize for the last minute request. Is there some other setting that could stop an update? Should I close all Firefox windows and re-open them? I found a "download ESR 32-bit" button on a Mozilla help article page, but it wanted me to decide where to save and .exe file and I wasn't sure if that determines where the program would go or if it would be a new installation and lose the existing setting. I understand an upgrade of Firefox should keep the settings. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been getting warning messages telling me to update Firefox or security certificates will expire on 14th January. I clicked on Help -> About, but it doesn't check for updates. I also tried going to Preferences, but I still can't see a way to install updates.

I downloaded a version from here https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/download/thanks/ I unpacked it into my home directory, but I'm not sure how to install this version.

I'd like to be able to import my current session into the new version of firefox.

Any help would be appreciated.

I got a notification a few weeks ago about my current version of Firefox becoming redundant at some point this year. Unfortunately because I was rushing around that day, I saw the pop up and immediately closed it.

I've looked online and saw that I should be able to update from the burger stack menu but it's giving me nothing to update to.

No downloadable programs online either.

I've now started seeing errors appearing on sites like Amazon Video saying my browser is no longer supported.

I would really prefer to keep using this browser but I'm not getting any information on how to keep it.

Hi,

I am using Firefox 78.15.0esr (64-bit) on a 16+ year old MacMini with el Capitan. I use it for various low performance use cases like playing music, and for testing the performance of my webapplications on old hardware, using outdated software

Reading the attached message (and followed up information page), I understand that I can still use this version of Firefox. But that all add-ons will be disabled in two months. Which is very upsetting to say the least. Why is a stand-alone add-on that doesn't communicate with an outside server being disabled?

Given that I run an unsupported(?) version of MacOS which I can not upgrade, I won't be able to update Firefox to the version that is being suggested. This means that Mozilla (the party that I've always cheered on for its vision), now remotely limits my access to the internet because of a certificate that they used in the development of the software becomes obsolete. This is a move that I'd expect from Google, Microsoft or Apple, but not from Mozilla.

Could someone with a more technical background explain me how such a certificate is related/integrated in the build of Firefox (78). I mean, why isn't it possible to re-build the project with a newer root certificate, given all of the source files are online: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/78.0/ ?

Hello everyone, i have Linux/Ubuntu software with Firefox browser and for 5 months it has not asked me to update, with it's pop up message. Now it is urgently asking me to update, i have followed the directions given in order to download the latest Firefox version as instructed but with no success. I am downloading it, but it doesn't have an instruction to "run" it. As a consequence, my system is getting slower and slower and i am afraid it will crush! Any ideas? Sooooos!!!

Hi,

For the past few weeks (or more) Firefox will not start up in one of my Mac user profiles. Please find attached a screenshot of the dialog it shows when I try to start it up.

I forget what happened, but I think it has to do with an update to macOS and (perhaps) not agreeing to all security measures that Firefox asked for…

For now, I’m working in DuckDuckGo in this user profile, but I thought I’d ask in case anybody can save me the research time to figure this out on my own.

Thanks for reading.

Why did Firefox update my windows 7 system without my permission even though Updates were turned off due to using Windows 7 . Consequently important desktop weblinks were lost. But also importantly, I don't like this desktop version of firefox that I did not request. I use to be able to store frequently used web links in a far right column underneath the 3 hashmarks on the top right. Now these valuable links are LOST due to your updating without my permission...What options are open to restore those web links ?

Am I understanding that firefox will update without users permission though updates are turned off ? Please respond. Because, if firefox does not honor users wishes, how can we have any confidence in you ? Yes, I am upset that you over rode my setting that turned off updates due to using Windows 7. Is this your policy to ignore users wishes and settings without an explanation prior to forced windows updates ? Please Respond to the email listed below. I'll await your explanation of why you over-ride users instructions...rjk
