I just updated my copy of Firefox to version 65.0. Immediately, I noticed that the tab bar has now been moved back to the top of the window, despite the hack I used to move it down. I know that I'm certainly not unique in disliking this location for the tabs toolbar. It makes a lot more sense for that toolbar to be below the bookmarks toolbar. That way, it separates the website content from the program's interface. Does anybody know of a way to move the tabs back down below the bookmarks toolbar? TIA

I can't figure out how to move the "Exit" button from the menu onto the main toolbar. I tried right clicking the toolbar and chose "Customise", but there was no "Exit" button available to add. I looked for Firefox add-ons as well but the ones that I need are not compatible with the latest version of Firefox. Currently (from what I can tell) the fastest way to close Firefox is by clicking "Open menu" at the top right (the three horizontal bars) and then scrolling all the way down and clicking "Exit" (this is two clicks though). Also to clarify, pressing the "Ctrl+Shift+Q" buttons is not what I want. I want a one MOUSE click solution.

Hi, I'm trying to get as much as possible of firefox to use dark theme to save my eyes at night.

I use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/ to customize the sites automatically and it does an excellent job, except that firefox pages can't be customized with it and by that I mean:

about:blank about:newtab about:config about:preferences

for the blank and newtab pages I found three solutions:

1- create a [userContent.css](http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserContent.css) file with the following

@-moz-document url-prefix(about:blank) {*{background-color:#000000;}}

@-moz-document url-prefix(about:newtab) {*{background-color:#000000;}}

2- go to about:config and change

browser.display.background_color to #000000

browser.display.foreground_color to #ffffff

3- Go to "Preferences" and search for "colors" click on the colors button and set the background and text colors to the same colors as in 2.

now I tried all of the solutions above and all of them have side effects, the most prominent and annoying one is flashing white page for a couple of seconds when opening a new tab or white page while the website, other annoyances is that the settings don't apply to about:config and about:preferences even if I add them in userContent.css

-To test the flashing white you only need to open a new tab (while applying my settings above) and you will see it.

-To the white page before the site is loaded you need to open the link from another page(if you open a new tab and then paste the link you won't get the white page since the about:blank or about:newtab will have the dark background)

so to see my problem do the following:

1- go to https://github.com/biesiad/deelay#deelayme

2- right click on deelay.me link and click "open link in a new tab"

the link will be opened in a new tab that has the background in white or grayish color.

How can I solve these problems ? any tip would be appreciated.

Regards

Before anyone goes Pshaw... let me state that I am very old, and any excess strain on my body has severe repercussions. Who knew browsers could be so dangerous?

I have been using Firefox 56 for some time and decided to try out Firefox Quantum this morning. Everything worked pretty smoothly, and I have no complaints about the browser itself. However, for medical reasons, I need to have the tabs underneath the url bar. It seems that, by craning my neck to look up at the tabs, I managed to cause my neck to spasm so forcefully that I had to go to the hospital. The pain was excruciating.

It made me smile that the doctor gave me a prescription for Firefox 56 when I left the emergency room in a neck brace, shot full of muscle relaxants, and a warning to dump Firefox Quantum unless a solution can be found.

I did try to copy and paste chrome CSS code...but that doesn't seem to work on newer versions of Firefox. I hope someone has a solution...in the meantime, I am back to Firefox 56, which puts the tabs at, not above, eye level, without having to cram my browser down to the bottom of my iMac screen.

Go ahead and chortle, sigh.

I'm using FF 67.0 (as well as 69.0a1 Nightly) on macOS.

Now that we can finally change keyboard shortcuts for Extensions (yay!) I would like to use `⌘S` as one of my key bindings. Problem is, that is already mapped to "Save Page As..." — a menu item I hardly ever need.

Is there any way (current or planned) that users can change keybindings for built in native commands? This would be especially useful for the many switchers coming over from Chrome after the adblockalypse.

I want to combine two customizations in Firefox 60: 1 Move the tabs to below the Address bar and Bookmarks toolbar; and 2. Move the Open Menu (hamburger) button to the left hand side in Firefox 60. Unfortunately, "customize" does not allow one to move the Open Menu button in FF60 (it is greyed out in "Customize"). I can do each of these steps separately with the following CSS customizations in the UserChrome.css file inside my profile, but am not sure how to combine the two together. For 1. the following works: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1185426 For 2. the following works: https://github.com/Timvde/UserChrome-Tweaks/blob/master/hamburger/move-to-top-left-Linux-Windows.css but combining them messes up the position of the Open Menu button - I am not skilled in CSS. Can anyone suggest a CSS that will do both tasks together? Or is there a simpler solution to both that I am missing?

The two CSS respectively are: 1. Move the tabs to below the address bar and bookmarks toolbar: ________________

/* Tab bar below Navigation & Bookmarks Toolbars
  For best results, show Title Bar or Menu Bar */
  #nav-bar { /* main toolbar */
  -moz-box-ordinal-group: 1 !important;
  border-top-width: 0 !important;
   }
    #PersonalToolbar { /* bookmarks toolbar */
   -moz-box-ordinal-group: 2 !important;
   }
   #TabsToolbar { /* tab bar */
 -moz-box-ordinal-group: 3 !important;
   }

________________ 2. Move the Open Menu button to the LHS: ________________

/*
 * Move the hamburger menu to the top left, before the first tab
 *
 * Contributor(s): Alex Vallat
 */

#PanelUI-button {
  -moz-box-ordinal-group: 0;
  border-left: none !important;
  position: absolute;
}

:root[uidensity=compact] #PanelUI-button {
  margin-top: -28px;
}

#PanelUI-button {
  margin-top: -30px;
}

:root[uidensity=touch] #PanelUI-button {
  margin-top: -36px;
}

#TabsToolbar {
  /* Ensure the padding is always present even when maximized */
  padding-inline-start: 40px !important;
}

There is a major issue regarding the addons.mozilla.org method of addon compatibility checking. The problem is that when a addon is detected as incompatible based on version number it becomes impossible to attempt to install it even if the add on it's self is compatible.

The example I am going to use here are unofficial forks of firefox that support both web extensions and npapi plugins. Because some of these forks use quantum version numbers it disables the ability to install the npapi legacy addons (which are still fully compatible)

It is IMPERATIVE that advanced users are provided with an INSTALL ANYWAY button because frankly its a bit stupid and completely broken to prevent advanced users from installing an add on just because of a version number mismatch.

This needs to be fixed and it needs to be fixed yesterday.

I included a image displaying a mockup of how I expect the site to behave instead of simply disabling the addon

Hi every one I have project with which I have managed to hide the status bar on mouse over using the useChrome.css. So you don't see the URl on mouse over. We are using Openkiosk based on Firefox as a information screen to describe what people are looking at in a chapel, the stain glass windows in fact. its a touch screen device not connected to the internet in any way. This has black html pages and the only thing I cant get rid of is when you click on the next link is it flashes the URL link from localhost. I can simulate this with moving the mouse pointer away/off the url link.

I just wondered if anyone knows the code to stop this, I have been looking for days and I cant find it anywhere.

Fx 63.0.3 in Linux. I added a tab close button (hovered) colored background. It's not necessarily same W x H as the inactive button transparent background - which is fine.

I'd like to move the (inactive) 'X' close to the tab right end (did move it - not necessarily easiest way). The bottom of red background in hovered state needs to be close to the tab bottom & even with the tab's right end / side, for a better, easier target to close. I did that - more or less. :)

The issue (that may have no solution) is the inactive button's transparent BG is 20x20px, I believe. So far, unless I make the hovered, colored background the same size as the inactive button's , it distorts the 'X' when the red background appears. So the button is semi-fixed? When hovered, it doesn't "translate" the X icon in the same HxW. Yes, people are starving in Africa & we're worried about pretty browsers.

I assume because the inactive close button has different dimensions and margins than the added background does, the only way I can get the "legs" of the 'X' near the tab border is enter different margins for it than for the hovered, colored background?

  • Question on the last part: *When you have a 20x20 button, originally positioned so the 'letter X' was ~ 5 - 7px from the border / end, what does Firefox "do" w/ the transparent part of the button, when you enter margins so the 'X' is very near the right tab border (right end of the moz-box or container)?
  • Does it in effect, 'remove' part of the transparent button, as different margins are entered, to move the button closer & closer to the container's end?

It appears the default close button's 'X' is 10px WxH. Since browser toolbox showed the button was 20x20px - I think, then it has a 5px margin? on all sides of the 'X' image.

The main goals are:

  • 1. Get more room for text on tabs. I also changed margins on the tab icons to move them near the tab left border & disabled tab text fadein.
  • 2. Have a clickable background to close tabs - that lines up at the tab bottom, right corner & not have to "fish around" for the close button. I have that.

So far, unless I make the hovered background the exact dimensions of the button, then use the exact margins on both, it will distort the X - depending on how different in size the inactive & hovered sizes are.

I couldn't find a CSS property / feature that would allow *the original* X close button to shift up or left (undistorted), when the hovered background appears.

Maybe the original close button could be hidden during hover and a new close button specified (adding a colored BG) with a new size? Say, 15x20 (or 30)? As long as the hovered BG is near the bottom, right corner.

  • I think whatever space is occupied by the width of the transparent button edge (plus padding, if any), dictates how far the tab's text can extend to the right? Once hovered, I don't care if more or less text shows, since I'll be closing the tab, not reading it.
  • If that's true, I could modify / create an overall smaller inactive close button - allowing more text on tabs. Or just "remove" the *inactive state* close button, & specify the same close button (plus red BG) for the hovered state.

I'm not sure how hard it would be.

It was kind of tedious, figuring out how much negative margin values to enter (for 2 different element sizes), so they both wound up (nearly) equidistant from the tab R end. Key word being "nearly". I didn't want the 'X' touching or almost - the tab divider line. But I want the hovered background touching it, to make an easier closing target.

In blown up screenshot(sss), it seemed if I measured the distance between the close button visible 'X' and the tab's R border (say 7px), if I entered 5px, the visible 'X' moved, but NOT so it was 2px from the R border. It seemed something else was affecting it.

.tabbrowser-tab .tab-close-button { /* move inactive close button closer to tab R-end */

 margin-top: 5px !important;
 margin-right: -10px !important;
 margin-left: 0px !important;

}
