Hi,

If a website is dual-stacked, Firefox will first try to connect over IPv6 and fallback to IPv4 if it fails. However, Firefox never tries again to use IPv6 if it as fails once. Sometimes this leads to connection error if the connection is intermittent (so IPv6 will fails at the time of the request, but it’s not specific to IPv6, and Firefox will try over IPv4) and if IPv4 is broken at all (e.g. because IPv6 works so nobody notices it). So when the connection comes back, Firefox will be stuck to IPv4 and the site won’t display even if works with IPv6. Even Ctrl-Shift-R doesn’t clear the connection cache.

Hi,

I use a 3x8 grid of top sites as my home page / new tab page. However, I usually split windows to half of the screen size, and when doing that the grid becomes 3x6 and some sites simply disappear!

Why not simply reshape the grid by adding extra rows? It would seem the most logical design choice, but I cannot find any setting or extension to do it.

Also, I feel like the tiles should be resizable since they look a bit small in high-resolution screens, but that's a different topic.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, if it is not then please tell me where I should do it.

Hi everyone! Since my update of Firefox (Ver. 76.0) on May 6, my Netflix streaming doesn't work any more. I use the Firefox Browser Ver. 76 on elementary Linux (Ubuntu 18.04). Until May 5 everything worked fine. I changed my browser to "Chrome" now, for watching Netflix. With Chrome everything works fine. Maybe someone can tell me, why Firefox 76 refuses streaming netflix.

Thanks for a helpful answer. C. Wolfgang

Crash at startup if Firefox not properly quit before shutdown Debian Buster

Hello,

One of my last Crash ID report : 49e3c347-5deb-4659-b9d1-281b00200514

I experiment this problem on two of my computers. Both are running Debian Buster. If I don't forget to quit Firefox before shutting down my computer, then I believe I won't have problem the next time I switch on my computer and launch Firefox.

However, as most of the time, if I shutdown my computer with Firefox still being open, it seems that Debian Buster doesn't close properly Firefox. In fact, if Firefox was still open when I switch off my computer, I can be sure (100% of the time) that at the next startup, Firefox won't be able to launch the previous session and I'll have to "restore my last tabs".

No other software seem to suffer from the way Debian Buster switch off. Only Firefox.

Thank you for any help one could give me,

Regards, Thatoo

Ever since I can remember I have never got the microphone to work correctly in Firefox 76.0 under GNU/Linux (x64_x86). After many years I now tried a site where I can record from my mic and I noticed that the sound is mostly heard at the beginning of words and static when I do not talk. It is if there is noise reduction or some kind of threshold ( inverted gate/expander) killing everything above a certain level.

In other apps it works without changing a single parameter in ALSA or Pulseaudio and letting them use the exact same settings as when trying it out in Firefox.

Hi, I've broken my profile which has led to several terrible effects. I suspect that this happened because I enabled Marionette in my default profile (and experimented little bit with it), although I also installed few extensions in the meantime all of them I've already deleted (Midnight Lizard and couple of auto refreshers). I don't know if I should list everything that got broken in one question, but let's begin with this one: I can't select topic for this question on my default profile (other profile is OK), because if I click no drop-down list appears. I don't see any errors in console.

the other problems are

  1. browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.feeds.topsites was set false (changed it back to true).
  2. I can't access about:preferences through Edit menu (nothing happens).
  3. FF starts with empty window and the window I used before is in the 'Recently closed windows' list, despite I closed it last. I don't know how to make Firefox restart with that window.
  4. When I attempted to open URL in Firefox from external application (for example by running 'firefox url' in console) Firefox's window used to pop up (go to the foreground before all other windows on the screen) with URL opened in a new tab. Now Firefox's window remains in background. I've changed nothing in my window manager's settings (Fluxbox is my WM) and I suggest it's also up to some changes in my profile... Also this happens with any active profile, all other issues listed only related to default profile.

I have installed new version of Firefox, but problems remained, so I believe they're up to broken profile data....

While using multiple (desktop) workspaces on Ubuntu, Firefox used to open right on the current workspace. However, since some update during the course of this year, it unfortunately started opening on the workspace it was last opened on. More than a nuisance, this is a productivity issue: you expect Firefox to open right where you start it only to find it somewhere else.

Unchecking the "Restore previous session" option makes this work i.e. Firefox opens right on the current workspace, but that comes at the price of losing (at least) the opened tabs next time Firefox is started.

Is there a way not to store the workspace in Firefox's session?

Good day,

Using Firefox for normal web browsing is not a problem. However, when playing video (YouTube, Twitch.tv etc) I get this Decoder error under Syslog.

The crashes are random. I can play video for varying lengths of time. But the above Error keeps appearing. All packages are up to date.

Thanks.

I am using Firefox 76.0 on a Linux Mint 19.3 cinnamon desktop. For some reason I can no longer send a newspaper item by email. Until recently I simply ticked the email symbol in the sidebar, and up popped an email form to which I needed only to put in an address. Now when I tick on the box, there is no result, although there is a line at the bottom of the page, saying 'mail to, and name of article'. I have disabled all add-ons, and the result is the same. It is the same when I have tried on other browsers. However, on another computer in a different room with the same setup, there is no problem. I have torn out my hair for three days and would be very grateful for help.

I am using Opensuse 15.0 and also 15.1. Haven't made a complete move over yet. There is a recurring situation when 4GB rx and 4GB tx movement that I cannot account for hits my 15.0 about once a month. Today it happened again. Using vnstat, I found it happened between 10.00 - 11.00. :

Searched the cookies, one site i cannot recognize came out; "consensu.org". Did a search, there were several, example: https://cmp.teads.mgr.consensu.org/index.html, that served blank pages in firefox. Is there anything odd here? Is there a way I can extract all the cookies with date & time so that I can check against previous occurrences of the 4GB data movements (I have a few records).

The QUESTION here is: While we have this Last No.3 above facility in UBUNTU-Mate, such facility is not seen in UBUNTU, XUBUNTU, LUBUNTU, KUBUNTU etc. WHY?

Can we not have the same facility in the other OS too?

Hello! I am running firefox-esr version 68.5.0esr-1+b1 (from Debian testing) with a bunch of extensions (ublock origin, multi containers, suspend tab, open in browser, all in one sidebar, etc). Yesterday, I was suddenly unable to start firefox. I can see the profile manager and start another older profile, but not the one I really need to open. When I start from a terminal, I see this error message most of the time:

###!!! [Child][RunMessage] Error: Channel closing: too late to send/recv, messages will be lost

I have created a new profile and started it with success; after copying all files from the faulty profile, the new one does not start.

I have tried to run with safe mode: still does not start.

I have found https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/426502/firefox-keeps-crashing-upon-launch/466522 which doesn't help.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile shows me how to copy bookmarks and cookies over. (I am not using any synchronization service.) I would very much like not losing my session (open tabs), but I don't know which file or database is holding it.

I would prefer not to have to spend a lot of time reinstalling and reconfiguring all extensions, but maybe it will be necessary. Thanks for any help troubleshooting this.
