This is a pretty weird problem. When I go to download a PDF from our company's website, Firefox is asking if I want to open it or download it, and here is what happens with both options:

  • Open -- It identifies the document as HTML and presents the raw PDF data (it becomes file.pdf.html)
  • Download -- It downloads the file correctly as a pdf, and calls it file.pdf. The file can then be opened and correctly rendered as a PDF.

I'm assuming it is an issue with the response header-- either it is malformed or non-standard, or maybe it is just Firefox being wonky. IE, Edge, and Chrome have no problem with it.

The mime type is application/pdf, and we are using a Content-disposition: attachment; filename="file.pdf".

Hopefully this is an easy issue to fix, but this is out of my normal realm of programming. The Firefox users where I work know to download the offending files instead of immediately opening them, it would just be nice to actually fix the issue.

Oh, in case it helps, part of the HTTP response header that we are sending is telling the browser to treat the file like an attachment, so the other browsers just save it.

Thanks for any insight and help!

10/20/20

I clicked on the update button last night - running 81.0, and the update was for 81.0.2. When I went to open the browser all that I got was a line at the top - FF would not open. I backed up the profile, and did a clean install. When I finally got the backed up profile installed, it opened properly once and everything was there. When I opened it again, no book marks, and none of the buttons worked. FF didn't close properly, and I had to use Task Manager to shut down.

I ended up downloading the beta version, and it's worked just fine. The original profile works, so all bookmarks are there.

I see that FF released 82.0 this morning. Is it safe to try to install it, or is the beta version that I installed last night really 82, just hours before it was officially released?

Like I said, upgraded to Windows 10 over the weekend. Figured there would be some tweaks and hiccups, but this is getting out frustrating. We use Google Drive for work, often needing to download files from there. Upon attempting to download anything I'm redirected to a page with this error message:

"The page isn’t redirecting properly

An error occurred during a connection to doc-0o-6k-docs.googleusercontent.com.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

I've reinstalled, checked for updates, snagged java, flash, tried firefox safe mode, cleared cache and cookies, and I'm running out of ideas here. Seems to be no problem using Chrome, so problem is unique to firefox which is unfortunate since FF is my browser of choice.

Cheers for the help in advance!

On installing Firefox today, I tried importing my passwords from Chrome. It seemed to work with no error report but, when I accessed any sites, the saved passwords that Firefox auto-filled were all incorrect. I'm not going to reset scores of passwords. Is there something I should do, apart from uninstalling Firefox and reverting to Chrome?

Hi,

I have reinstalled my Debian, keeping of course my `/home`. New Firefox version is `68.12.0esr`. A new profile has been created, but I need the old one which I can set as default in the profile manager at the url `about:profiles`, but Firefox tells me "Using an older version of Firefox can corrupt bookmarks and browsing history.....". So, it seems I need to install the same version of Firefox I had before, but I don't know which one it was, and I would like to avoid to make many trials.

Is there a mean to know which Firefox version is associated to a given profile?

There is no indication of progress while a webpage is downloading. I'm looking for something like the rotating hour glass, or a rotating circle of dots. Only when the process is done do we get the page's icon on the tab. As it is, I never know if my request to open a webpage is working or if the computer has locked up. It must have changed with the latest update because, although I can't remember exactly how Firefox previously indicated loading in progress, I instantly noticed the LACK of it as soon as I booted up the newest version.

Thank you.

I uninstalled Libre Office and it apparently uninstalled the VCRUNTIME140_1.dll file s part of its uninstall process. From this point Firefox would open but would not connect to the Internet, either by clicking one of the links in the toolbar or typing the address directly. I have tried all the solutions I can find on the support pages, ranging from attempting to copy the file from another location to re-installing Visual C++ from the Microsoft website, both the 64 bit and the x86 versions. Having found and installed the latest version of Visual C++ I now get the error message "The procedure entry point _CxxFramehandler4 could not be located in the dynamic link library C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSVCP140.dll" at the edn of the installation process, and of course Firefox has not installed. Any suggestions for a way forward?
