Problem Description
In a server-based environment, I need to implement automatic updates for Mozilla Firefox, while maintaining strict outbound network control.
The architectural requirement is as follows: • Only the update component should be allowed to access the Internet via a proxy. • The browser itself (user browsing sessions) must not inherit or use that proxy configuration. • The proxy configuration for the update mechanism should be logically separated from the browser’s network configuration.
⸻
The Issue
In contrast to the update mechanism used by Google Chrome (Google Update / Omaha), where: • The updater runs as a separate system service • It supports dedicated proxy configuration • It does not inherit browser-level proxy settings • It allows granular control of outbound traffic exclusively for update operations
In Mozilla Firefox: • The update mechanism is tightly integrated with the browser • There is no native, dedicated proxy configuration exclusively for the updater • Proxy configuration applies to the entire browser • It is difficult to implement an “update-only network access” model

Hello, since your I have donwloaded your latest Firefox update I have multiple issues with Firefox 147.0.4 on macos Tahoe version 26.3
If you google "using firefox on mac os tahoe 26.3" you will see that I am not alone.
I have been using Firefox for many years, and do not understand why newer Firefox versions are not fully tested before being released on the "market".
You are not alone; Google has also the same problem on macos Tahoe version 26.3. Might be good to contact Apple to solve this issue, before a domino effect!
Cordially

Hi!
I have not thought about changes to Firefox and after speaking to someone I found out a potential change that I was not aware of.
I have not been able to find a definitive (except AI generated) answer to confirm or deny his claim that Firefox switched over to Chrome/Chromium's web engine.
My understanding is that they have always used their own being a FOSS alternative to major brands.
I use 133.0.3 (64bit) Mozilla Firefox for Arch Linux archlinux - 1.0 (right now but updates are very common)
Am I in reality using Chrome/Chromium just in different clothes, or is this still the same FOSS Firefox that I have been using for years?
As a side note, I did find out that the coding for Extensions/Add-ons have been updated to reflect the way that they are coded from Chrome/Chromium but that is not enough to give me a definitive answer as to the underlying interface.

How do I "manually run "dpkg-configure-a"?
Firefox is suggesting I DOWNLOAD Firefox, but I already have it, and use it regularly. Shouldn't I just be UPDATING it instead?

Hello everyone,
I’m wondering what exactly "remote improvements" actually are.
Mozilla says: "Remote improvements range from fixes to feature changes to Firefox. They are delivered remotely between versions and updates to make your browsing experience stabler and richer (...)."
They are not studies or A/B tests, as those are enabled/disabled separately. They also do not concern WebCompat shims, Safe Browsing, or similar features, nor larger security fixes or more significant bugs that are resolved with a out-of-band update – correct? Is it similar to Windows CU Previews - meaning improvements, fixes, and feature changes that would be included in the next upcoming regular update anyway? Not a case of "let’s roll something out and see how users react" thing?
Have I understood that correctly?
Thanks and best regards, Martin
