I have a local Firefox profile that's contains all my saved passwords bookmarks and history. Therefore all my firefox data are saved on my local harddrive and they can't be sync across different devices unless I manually export/import them. If i create a new Firefox account, is it possible that I can import all my existing local passwords, bookmarks, history, etc onto my newly create Firefox account so they can be sync across different devices. If so, how?

Hello,

I synchronized my FF with another computer and made the mistake to remove all passwords before logging off sync so I lost all my passwords but a few.

However I still have the logins-backup.json on my main computer with everything inside. However when I replace the 'logins.json' by the content of logins-backup.json it's always reverted.

How can I replace all my passwords with the logins-backup.json content ?

I have Firefox as my default browser in my Windows 10 Pro PC. I have a Firefox account and have saved bookmarks I want to be able to access from my Mac on Firefox, but I can't.

When I try to log in and sync I tried logging in on the Mac with my account credentials from the Windows PC (my username and password from there). I don't have 2 Factor Authorization turned on in the Windows Firefox installation. However, the login attempt on the Mac immediately asks me to enter a security code without telling me where in the world I would get that.

It does say to open my authentication app and enter the security code it provides. I had no such thing. After some searching, I figured I had to install an extension. I installed authenticator by Mymindstorm.

I tried following the instructions but there was no QR code to scan and I had no idea from where the code requested would come. It appeared I had to add a Certificate Authority Secret Key but again I couldn't figure out from where and all documentation and instructions were useless and uninformative to me.

I resolved to turn off 2FA if it somehow were automatically installed in the Mac instance of Firefox. I again couldn't figure out where you do that. I saw instructions but found nowhere in my Settings anything about that.

I'm baffled. Isn't there some easy way to do this? My Chrome settings and bookmarks are accessible no matter from where I install and use it. I have Chrome on my Windows PC and I can also access all my bookmarks from opening up Chrome on my Mac. Why is this so difficult? Can anyone give me the simple solution that actually works?

Even on my Windows PC where I am logged in to my Firefox account and I have my bookmarks that I want to access on my Mac Firefox, when I open the Authenticator extension it says no accounts to display. I follow the link to "add your first account." The instructions are mind-boggling. There is no QR code to scan. I go the to Mac and sync to log in. It asks for the code, but there is no code either to scan or to install manually. The instructions to add the code manually are even worse -- that CA creation thing referring to a Secret Key somewhere supposedly being provided to me. WTF?

I'd just shut it off completely if I could.

Hello there, I somehow recently managed to delete my account by accident and I'm wondering whether it's possible to restore the sync data left behind, I have access to the recovery keys if required and can attempt to provide any information requested about the account. Not sure if it is even possible to restore the data using this method but it's worth a try at least. Appreciative of any assistance with this problem, thanks again :).

Hi. I was running into issues with my bookmarks menu bar not showing up. I tried hiding it and re-showing it. Didn't work. I restarted my computer. Still the same. So I uninstalled Firefox. After re-installing it, I tried to log in to my Firefox account to sync everything, but the sign in button just turns into a spinning wheel and above my profile picture and email address, it says "working...". It is just stuck like that. I've tried quitting out and doing it again. Still the same. I restarted my computer as well. Still the same. How can I fix this?

Hello

I do not understand how firefox sync is supposed to work. I have a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is FF 85 on Linux Mint (I cannot get a later version due to some querk) The laptop is 99 on Windows 10 Both are signed in to sync but my bookmarks were scrambled so I signed out the laptop and cleared the profile, cleaned up the bookmarks in the desktop and to be safe I tried just syncing the tabs, not the bookmarks, by opening the fresh firefox on the laptop and signing in again. In the sidebar under my account icon I clicked "Synchronise now" and the open tabs from my desktop appeared in a list underneath, jumbled up. (I have 2 separate windows open on the desktop with different tabs in each, but this separation was not followed either, there didn’t seem to be any provision for syncing tabs in two separate windows)

But the row of tabs didn’t open, all I can do is open them one by one from the list on the right, this is a slow process as every time I click on a tab in the list the new page opens in the same single tab, not a new one, but the sidebar closes again.

Is this what’s supposed to happen? I was expecting the synced row of tabs to open automatically.

This feature would have been useful as my OS on the desktop, (Linux Mint) tends to crash and to have the on the laptop would be a good backup.

Incidentally the other way I try to back up the lost tabs is to select them all and bookmark them to a new folder which I call “backup” but it seems this doesn’t necessarily duplicate them, which I would prefer, so any of the open tabs that were previously bookmarked risk being removed from the original bookmarked folder, without my noticing, and I am therefore reluctant to delete the backup folder without checking that it doesn’t contain the only bookmark of a page.

When I came back to syncing the bookmarks, how do I avoid them getting scrambled again?

Can't scan QR code for sync

I have tried this several times over a few years, and have never got it to work I know it must be something I am doing wrong because if it was a glitch or bug, it would have been fixed by now. Usually I need to do this if I need to reinstall the OS, (Windows and Linux), or a new pc, the usual, but this time I had a major crash, so I'm starting over.

Anyway I have signed in on my pc to my FF account, and went through the menu to turn on sync, and I get to the page where is says, "when ready click next to display the QR code". I get my android out, open FF, sign in, click the "Scan" button, the FF scanner opens,, I open the QR code on the pc, (I have also went to the website to get a QR code). Then either way I scan the code, and get an errror msg "Must scan from inside FF". I am scanning from inside FF, with the FF QR scanner.

I don't uinderstand how of the 20 or more times I have tried to do this, I can't get it to work. I don't understand how I screw up every times, over a few years. But I also know as I said, if it was a bug MOzilla would have fixed it by now. Usually I give up on that and just log into both the pc and the phone, close both browsers and reopen them and it will go ahead and sync.

But not this time, I am unable to get it to sync for anything. I've been working on this for 3 days now, and at this point I'm confused, I don't remember what I have and have not done. Let me add, and I don't know if this will make a difference, I don't think so, but what do I know? Originally this all started, when I had to reset my password. I tried for 4 days there to get a recovery code to work. (The following is just to describe what I've done, and is not a second question) I had one downloaded, and saved on my pc. But no matter what route I took to go through the reset process, exactly as described in the help file, I never could get a place to enter the code. I read every article I could about it, and finally it seemed easier to just reset the password and resync than try to get the code to work.

Which is why I am sitting here, desperatly needing to sync my data, but unable to. If anyone can tell me what I need to do I will appreciate it. If you need any more information, just let me know.

Hi team, Can you explain me how exactly firefox sync works? asking because I thought by syncing it will save all the bookmarks with my account and I can use the same account to bring back all the bookmarks on another device.

I created an account on linux dual booted with windows and synced all the things I saved on firefox. Recently I switched to pop os and logged in using the same account. Expecting to see all the bookmarks on here too. But unfortunately it didn't worked. And all my bookmarks are gone. Is there any way I can recover those data?

Kind regards
