Hi, I had an unstabled system for a few months, that required repeated Windows reinstalls. FINALLY tracked down the issue, and now I'm trying to recover all those old tabs. I was making SOME progress, with my last two installs as well as two devices I'm currently using showing and me opening synced tabs laboriously one at a time, over and over, so I could eventually filter through all the doubles and triples and quadruples of tabs that were opened over the last few months. But starting today or yesterday, the Synced Tabs sidebar is no longer showing those last two installs, only my current two, even though those last two - and many others - are still showing in my Connected Devices. Did I reach some auto-cutoff date for Sync storing them? Or does it still have them and I just need to change a setting somewhere?

Thanks for any help you can give, and I DO have a tab backup system, it's just... imperfect. Still working the kinks out of it, so I was hoping to use old Synced tabs to fill in the gaps.

HP was unable to repair my computer and sent me a new one. The Bookmarks are extremely out of date (not really sure where they came from). The bookmarks on my Android are ok. I'm trying to get the Bookmarks from Firefox on Android to Firefox on my laptop. I have tried following the instructions for Sync many times, the instructions don't match what I see on my screens. There is supposed to be a 'Sync and Save' option on my phone but there is nothing about Sync in the menu. I saw an answer somewhere that your email was now supposed to be in that menu but it isn't Can anyone help me get the bookmarks from my Android to my PC? Thank you in advance.

Firefox sync problems

I don't quite know how to explain this.

My phone was upgraded, and I set up the Firefox mobile to sync, and now my desktop install has undergone some changes I tried to avoid, and I want to know if there s a way to reverse it, or avoid it in the future.

Previously, I posed a question about which device/install takes precedence when sync is enabled, because one side, generally my desktop, ends up suffering negative changes, which results in loss of information, i.e. history, addon settings reset to default, remembered logins no longer remembered, etc.

For these reasons, under typical circumstances, I do not enable sync on my desktop, but in order to have Firefox mobile equipped with the latest sessions, etc., I thought I could solve the desktop problem by backing up of my current profile to a different location, after which I could log in to sync, let it do it's job, and then return to my original profile, which is not set up to sync, and it would be as I left it.

But, that was not he case, and I suffered the loss of all but the last seven days of history, and all the other changes I listed above.

So now, not only do I have to set up all apps on the new phone, but on my desktop as well. Extremely frustrating.

In my experience, in some ways, sync acts more like a backup program, that deletes whatever is in the destination that is not in the source. I'm my mind, syncing should have an option to go in only "one direction", in this case, from my desktop to my mobile, not which one is the latest, which seem to be happening here.

There should also be an option to 'combine the data from the two sides.

I'd really like to get some feedback on the this. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong. If so, please help me deal with this.

Hey everyone,

Just noticed that while my Firefox extensions sync across my devices, the pins for these extensions in the toolbar don't. I get my extensions, but I have to pin them every time I switch devices. Is this expected behavior, or is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? (And if it is - why?)

Thanks for any help!

I was trying to create an account for the first time to use Firefox sync on a different computer and I guess I must have either somehow entered my age wrong or be having some weird error. Now when I go to click sign it it still says I cannot create an account due to age requirements. I have made this account on my other computer, but I am hoping to still be able to sync my browser from the computer that is having this problem.

I use the Firefox password manager and choose to sync my saved logins between my desktop computer and my phone (running Firefox mobile). To begin with the obvious: Firefox, by default, does not require you to set up a primary password. Without one, anyone who can get past the lock screen of your desktop can see your saved logins. Furthermore, Firefox mobile does not include the primary password feature. If a user has not set up a lock screen on their mobile device, anyone can see the saved logins. This caught me by surprise as I recently bought a tablet for home use on which I installed (and synced) Firefox. For convenience, I did not set up a lock screen (I won't keep sensitive data or email accounts on the tablet). Being used to my desktop (which asks for the primary password) and my phone (on which Firefox automatically asks for the fingerprint/pattern already set up on the phone), I didn't stop to think that my saved logins on the tablet did not have equivalent protection. I realise this was naive, but the reason I think it could catch more people out is that almost everyone has a lock screen on their phone, but they don't think about setting up protection of saved logins because Firefox automatically adopts the phone's existing fingerprint/pattern for this function. I can imagine a similar scenario where a user installs Firefox on a second desktop device and syncs saved logins. Primary passwords are set locally and are not synced between profiles or devices. However, having already set up a primary password on their original desktop computer, the user might not realise that they do not automatically have the same standard of protection on the second desktop. This can all be deduced from the information already on the help pages, however perhaps the following could be considered: A message explicitly informing the user when syncing (a) what protection will be used by default (eg, the system fingerprint/pattern on a mobile device), or (b) that there is currently no system fingerprint/pattern/etc or primary password set up and that consequently the saved logins have zero protection.

For example with a checkbox? Deleteing them one by one is a hassle.

Hello

I was checking out the relay options on the relay website. I saw the option "Enable account names for email masks" it had a lengthy explanation that if i leave it disabled that my masks will have no names. But my masks have names (i have not opened the relay site since the relay beta therefor i assume it was checked as disabled as my account never had this option before?!) Confused by this i clicked on enable. Then disable again to see if the explanation pops up again, it did. So i left it at "enabled" and clicked save.

immediately after, all my mask names that were created since the beta of relay were gone from the website. I checked my Firefox itself, they were still present! So i searched for the option to disable sync. But it was too late.

I assume sync has no versioning?

I still have local backups of my Firefox folder. But if I just overwrite them i guess the sync will restore the one from the cloud?

Is there a way to get my mask names back?

greetings.

I wish to add a new PC to devices I am currently syncing (a "legacy" PC, a laptop, my iPhone). I can confirm from the legacy my correct password and can log in using it. I have installed the up-to-date Firefox on the new PC. When I attempt to log in to Firefox/sync on the new machine, it will not recognize the confirmed password. FYI, this is a new password created Aug 23. The new machine runs Win 11, the old Win 10.

A few days ago links in messages stopped working in Outlook (Microsoft 365) on my Windows 10 Pro 64-bit PC.

Good ol' Microsoft support reset Firefox on the PC and I lost all bookmarks, history and personalized settings. Tried to copy data from Old Firefox Data file into profile on reset Firefox. Didn't work. Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and tried to copy data from old profile to new profile. Nada.

Only option now is to try to sync Firefox on my Mac to new install on PC. I'll still lose some bookmarks and history but it will be better than what I have now. I have a Firefox account on both devices but when I log in to Firefox on the Mac I cannot find anything pertaining to sync.

Problem one: how do I navigate to sync in Firefox for Mac. Problem two: when I bought the Mac 6 years ago I tried to sync Firefox on my PC to the new Mac. For some reason Firefox synced the empty new profile on the Mac to the old PC. I lost all bookmarks and history accumulated on the old PC! I do not want to go through that again.

I have never found anything on Mozilla that clearly explains how to control which way the sync works. Must be certain that I'm copying all the bookmarks, history, tabs etc, from the old device to the new on and not vice versa.

is there a way to configure a firefox instance as the bastion of truth, so that all other instances sync to it? and it asks before it makes changes?

Or even better after a sync have a list of what changed, and perhaps an undo.

I logged into sync on a computer not synced in some time, which rolled all devices back to old data. My assumption was that new data would be preferred, and I can't wrap my head around why that would not be the case.
