Hello,

I can't figure out how to add a custom search shortcut, is this no longer possible in Firefox (without installing addons/extensions)?

I recall 'custom search' being more or less ubiquitous, and feel like there was an "Add" button below the Search Shortcuts UI not that long ago.

Bookmarks with keywords would be a reasonable workaround if it weren't for having to prefix the keyword to the search terms.

Thank you, Kyle

I'm having real problems with the pop up "find text" box that appears at the bottom of my Macbook Pro when I try to enter data on web pages since I updated Firefox a few weeks ago. I can find articles on disabling this feature for PCs, but nothing for Macs. Please help !

I want to permanently remove Quora and Reddit from my search results, so I asked AI and on number 4. it says "Add Search Engine" but in my firefox settings their is no such setting. Any suggestions would be helpful. Here is the AI response:

To permanently remove Quora and Reddit from your Firefox search results, you can create a custom search engine that excludes these sites. This involves adding a new search engine with a modified search query that includes site exclusions, and then making it your default search engine. Here's how to do it:

 1. Open Firefox settings: Click the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner and select "Settings".
 2. Go to Search: In the left sidebar, click on "Search".
 3. Find Search Shortcuts: Scroll down to the "Search Shortcuts" section.
 4. Add a new search engine: Click the "Add Search Engine" button.
 5. Fill in the details:
Name: Give it a name like "Google Clean" or similar.
Keyword: Choose a keyword, for example, "gc".
URL: This is the most important part. Use the following modified URL, replacing YOUR_SEARCH_QUERY with %s:

https://www.google.com/search?q=%s -site:quora.com -site:reddit.com This tells Firefox to search Google, but exclude results from Quora and Reddit.

Make it default: Click the three dots next to your newly created search engine and select "Make Default".

Now, when you type a search query into the Firefox address bar, it will automatically exclude Quora and Reddit from the search results.

Hello! I want my address bar to be simply that - an address bar. I do not want to search from it, I do not want to run commands from it, I do not want to run shortcuts from it. I just want it to take me to that address - and if that address is not valid or available, I do not want suggestions or options. Just an address bar, nothing else. Is this possible? Thanks! -Doug

This may be more in "settings" than in "search, tag, and share".

Since updating to the 140 series, the URL bar has what appears to be a nonremovable "what kind of search do you want to run?" activated by typing in the URL bar.

Do Not Want. That's the entire purpose of having the separate search bar. For those who only have the URL bar visible, that might make sense, but right in the core Settings I chose to have both the URL bar and the search bar. I do not ever want searches initiated from the URL bar.

Is there a way to remove this unwanted "extra feature"?

And a gentle hint to those doing interface tweaking and redesigns: Those of us who use "separation" features directly supported by the program — that is, not requiring an extension or theme — would really, really appreciate having our choices respected. That the separate search bar is already selected and visible, or having a full menu bar (and not just the hamburger symbol) visible, should be a hint that there just might be functional, safety, security, and/or disability-accommodation considerations behind that user's choice, and you shouldn't override it Just Because.

Hello, Just updated to the latest FF on Windows and I want the old search engines option.

Now there's a dropdown menu to choose from, which is nice but makes a redundant click (click the dropdown and click again to chose).

Before the update, after typing a string, I would have at the bottom of the the search bar a list of the available engines, clicking one of the icons, would start the search, thus only 1 click.

Is there a way to get this back?

Thanks
