I have used Firefox and kept it updated for years. Today, when I tried to open it, I got this message:

Using an older version of Firefox can corrupt bookmarks and browsing history already saved to an existing Firefox profile. To protect your information, create a new profile for this installation of Firefox.

Seemed odd, but I created a new profile and synced my bookmarks etc. But when I restarted it, I got the same message. I can't troubleshoot because I can't get past this message.

I didn't add anything that I can recall or change any settings, so I don't understand what's going on.

Hi all,

I am running into an odd issue and I am stumped on what to try next. As you can see in the attached images, I am running into a problem with select dropdowns. The first dropdown is from https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-400/ (Buy Now and click country) and the second is from this Mozilla support page. Long story short is dropdowns are messed up in my default profile. I have done the following to attempt to troubleshoot the issue -

1) Restart Firefox in Safe-Mode without addons 2) Refresh Firefox 3) Delete the Firefox user directory 4) Create a brand new profile and launch into the new profile (This works but for some reason but it can't be my default profile) Default profile fails to work but others don't. If I set my newly created profile as the default, then the new default profile doesn't work. Odd.

Anyway, if anyone has any insight on fixing this issue then it would be great. The dropdowns have been broken for a few months but I have just dealt with them. Thank you for any help over the topic.

Hello dear Mozilla community!

I've faced an issue with search engines configuration for Firefox on macOS. I'm doing the following:

  1. Removing all but one One-Click Search Engines, leaving only one engine in the list (currently my preference is DuckDuckGo): https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-11-17-04-32-41-395a2a.png or https://imgur.com/DKqvzZ9
  2. When I type search request in the address bar I'm seeing nice and clean search suggestions from Search Provider of my choice: https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-11-17-04-32-13-a8d46c.png or https://imgur.com/a/slivHlF
  3. Close Firefox
  4. (not sure what other conditions needed)
  5. Open Firefox
  6. When typing search request in the address bar I see that Amazon and Ebay options are back and a suggestion line "This time, search with ..." as added by firefox: https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-11-17-04-32-02-4a25db.png or https://imgur.com/vjq0NCf
  7. In the preference I see that those two searches (Ebay and Amazon) were automatically re-added to One-Click Search Engines: https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-11-17-04-32-23-91dd1d.png or https://imgur.com/ibnlzLS

That issue is happening to me across different versions of firefox and isn't new. I've been seeing it for a few month hoping that to resolve in a newer versions. But as of right now I'm on 82.0.3 (64-bit) and the issue is still there.

It's a bit annoying as I have to my preferences literally every time I need to restart Firefox (which is especially annoying to do right after restarting FF to switch to a newer version).

Any suggestions and help is welcome!

Best regards, Serhii.

I go to a website and need to upload a file. I click the upload file button on the web page and the pop up will not appear. I've done every option imaginable for Pop-ups to no avail.

What security setting am I missing?

It works in chrome which I prefer not to use but I suppose I'll make the switch if I have to.

I'm writing this on the 6th of December in 2020 using Firefox 83 on MacOS 10.15.5 Catalina.

I think it would add a lot to the browsing experience if I was to add an image as the background of Firefox's new tab homepage. This has come up a few times on support.mozilla but they all appear to be either dated or neglect MacOS and only consider Windows or Linux. They all involve going to about:support and opening what people say is listed as the profile directory and creating a folder called chrome. Then creating a .css and pasting/writing certain code. There's a few more small steps and then you're supposed to restart Firefox and it's ostensibly there. Can somebody suggest a method that works in 2020 on MacOS Catalina with Firefox 83? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I was not able to log into my bank account website tonight, because it kept giving me an error saying 'Feature temporarily unavailable' every time I tried. (attached) I contacted the bank Support, and they told me to clear the cache and try again, but that did not help either. I was able to get into my account using Chrome browser, but this is a constant thing with Firefox, that websites will not work properly for one reason or another, and I have to open a different browser to be able to complete my objectives. Firefox consistently complains about permissions to open websites that were working fine just this morning. Almost like it is random, or something. As well, trying to use online chat in Firefox, is a joke, and I almost religiously have to go to a different browser to chat with anybody online. I have noticed that, for around the last year or so, Firefox browser has become less and less useful, and more and more tedious to use, which is leading me to think about changing my default browser to one that is more reliable. I have been using Firefox, as my browser for many years now, and hope that it can be corrected somehow, because I do not want to switch to a different browser truthfully. I do have addons, mainly ad blockers, but if I remove all addons, the same problems remain. Am I going to have to switch to a different browser that is more consistent, if I want to be able to have reliable internet usage, until you guys get your collective acts together, or what??

MacBook Pro, Mojave 10.14.3; Recently updated Firefox to 83.0, and now my fonts on other sites are messed up (particularly Yahoo mail; See screen shot). I've tried re-starting with add-ons disabled and it does fix the problem, but I need my add-ons enabled. I also tried a Firefox refresh, but still does not fix the problem. I've also tried checking and unchecking the box "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above," in Firefox preferences, but that doesn't help either. Hopefully someone has figured out how to fix this?

TIA - Beth

I recently installed Firefox on my new computer. I used Firefox on my previous desktop, and have an existing account. Every time I launch Firefox on my new computer, I get the "Let's Get Started" splash screen. I log on to my account, and I have to set up my screen with the bookmarks toolbar, etc. every single time I open the application. Why does it not remember me and retain these settings? On my old computer, I stayed logged on even when I quit the application. Help?

Hi all. I have been looking for some time for an extension or method that will help me sort the extensions that end up in the Overflow Menu. It becomes impossible to find anything with them all shoved in there with no rhyme or reason, and I def do not want to have to put them in alpha order (or maintain them that way).

Hi,

I have been designing a Hikvision CCTV system and bumped into a problem. Mac users cannot use a browser to access all the various controls and settings as Hikvision rely upon ActiveX, which is old and a security risk. I am informed that this problem exists in the whole CCTV industry! I am advised that Hikvision will eventually dump ActiveX in favour of HTML5, but this seems to require a new operating system!

I think it's incredible that a whole industry should build itself upon one piece of legacy. Surely browsers would be the way to go. That way online acccess to a CCTV system would be OS independent. Does onyone have some thoughts on this?

Why not implement an HTML5 plugin?

I'm no expert, but have been around computer tech since the early 1980s.

Comments/observations much appreciated.

Regards Michael
