Basically I have Never Remember History enabled, and each time I open FF there's data in 'Cookies and Site Data'. Under 'Cookies and Site Data' it will say there's a bit of data (in the photo is says 16Kb, which is pretty typical). If I look under 'manage cookies and site data' there will be nothing there. Sometimes the cookies or cache or whatever is bigger if the last time I used that profile I was watching videos, at most it will be a couple Mb's maybe. If I wipe it out, it will go to 0Kb, and then for the rest of the profile session, even if I have a bazillion tabs open, it will say 0, but then there's always a cache there the next time I start that profile.

What is it? Why is there always a small amount of data in the 'Cookies and Site Data' section each time I restart a profile?

I'm currently running version 68.2.0esr on Debian Linux version 5.3.0-1-amd64. Extension: uBlock Origin 1.23.0

                 uMatrix 1.4.0
                 Canvasblocker 0.5.14.

Plugins: OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. (disabled) Version 1.8.1.1

Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc. Version 4.10.1440.19

I have web history turned off ('Never Remember History'), trackers blocked, cookies enabled w/ third party disabled, auto search engine update turned on, Do Not Track enabled, 'Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed' enabled by default (b/c history is off). I might have changed a few tiny things in about:config but nothing I remember offhand. Any other system info I can look up in need be.

Editing mode/normal mode, button, and keyboard shortcut. Abstract: Today the web is overcrowded with hyperlinks, there are so diverse and so many that many times there's no blank space left to make focus on the page, also it's hard to copy a link name. The hover cursor is almost omnipresent.

If there was some key shortcut to enable/disable hovering and link following to edit mode, this problem would be solved. Focus and edit inside all the page, And would be more secure than whatever certificate.

Firefox came preinstalled as snap package on ubuntu 18.04, but has been giving trouble since

I'm running through problems when downloading files:

The open with dialog application does not see most applications, in particular it doesn't see evince nor libreoffice. The dropdown defaults to "Url Handler Script (default)", which does nothing with my files.
If I choose to open the file with firefox (say a pdf file) a blank page appears

All these options work with chrome though..

The only way I can view a downloadable file is by saving it somewhere in my home directory and then open it which is a pain!

Obviously snap firefox doesn't access anything beyond thatI've successfully installed Firefox as a snap package (done by default by installing it through Ubuntu's "software center"). It does work, and give me a more recent version of Firefox than the one available through APT.

I'm running through problems when downloading files, though:

Saving them in /tmp/ does not work, since the snap version of Firefox uses a different filesystem than the one of the host computer, hence Firefox and non-snap applications see different content in /tmp/.

If I save a downloaded file, the open containing folder button in the downloads list does not work. I'm guessing that it tries to open nautilus, but fails to do so because nautilus is a non-snap application.I've successfully installed Firefox as a snap package (done by default by installing it through Ubuntu's "software center"). My computer slows to a point where it fails to respond to inputs. A yellow band appears, saying, "A web page is slowing down your computer. What would you like to do?" I click STOP, but that does nothing.

Well, I guess when I wrote the above I was expecting whatever help you might be able to give. Obviously, I'd like the problem fixed; how its done is up to someone who understands the problem and knows a whole lot more about these things than I do, and can communicate the procedure to me. (For some reason the Subject box above says that I've entered 574 characters EVEN AFTER I'VE DELETED MORE THAN HALF OF IT)

Accidentally or after upgrade (I did not notice) I got bookmarks side bar at right part of FF window. Instead of default left side, where it was before.

How can I get bookmarks sidebar back to the left side? Where it is placed by default in other installations of FF.

Thank you.

P.S. I saw several answers about Ctrl+B. It is not the case. I can hide it and bring back. But I need it at left side instead of current location.

When searching for information in FF Help, "Back" button does not work correctly

I posted this question to normal Help and it has been suggested that I report it here -

Let us assume I am looking for info on "Pocket" so, in FF I click "Help">FF Help. This opens a general page listing nine tiles showing possible categories of a problem, plus the Search box. I type the word "Pocket" into the search field which opens another page listing 40 results. I click on the first item and read this information. Having finished this item, I click on the "Back" button hoping to return to the list so as to read the next item but -- the initial tiled view and Search box are presented instead. To continue my search, I must again enter the word "Pocket", again generate the list of 40 items and then click on the second to read this. If one is trying to study a problem in depth (by reading several items) the way that the "Help system" operates generates considerable frustration.

In short -- "Help" in Firefox is a crude Kludge, unworthy of an otherwise very good browser.

In the traffic on this question, it was suggested that the pages are not being properly cached, (which seems fairly obvious) so I think (?) that the problem should be fairly easy to rectify.

Best regards, Hatrack.

I'm using Firefox under the Openbox WM on Arch Linux and I cannot enable CSD. As seen in the picture, the "Title Bar" customize option changes actually nothing. The WM's default window decoration remains visible and there's no change at all. This issue applies to all versions of Firefox since CSD was introduced, i.e. since v 60 (as far as I can recollect) till now. Is that a bug or am I simply missing something important? I've tried creating a completely new Firefox profile - same thing then. Other apps (like Evince or Google Chrome) show client side decorations properly in my case. Any kind of help will be highly appreciated, thanks in advance.
