When I try to google some absolute file path (e.g. /etc/fstab) in the address bar, instead of googling, it just opens the file from my local filesystem (as file:///etc/fstab)
I know that I can use search keywords or quote file paths, but even so, I think that users hardly ever use browsers to open local files by absolute url. So this UX totally disappoints me because I need to keep this in my mind every time I want to google file or I lose my mental concentration and then I need to change the focus from solving my issue here and now to fixing this misbehavior
Can I somehow fix this behavior with about:config?

My previous avatar was transparent and looked good on both dark and light browser themes, but I've made a change, uploaded my new avatar on the Firefox Account page and... transparent parts of the picture have become gray, and now they look very ugly on light themes in the browser (or on Firefox/Mozilla pages). But I can't even turn transparent parts into white because it still looks awful with dark browser theme. Is it a bug, or is it an intended change?

Hello,
For some reason I got a new laptop and install the latest firefox version, however, very often happens that my pointer doesn't change according to the options I am selecting (unless I click on them). To fix it, I have to restart the browser every time. It's annoying because for example, if I select some text to copy it, it will not be highlighted until I finish (unclick), just until then it will highlight the text, but not during the process. Also, the wheel of my mouse won't scroll the page up and down when clicking at it (but I still can scroll without clicking it). All these issues get fixed once I restart the whole browser.
Any ideas? do you think by downgrading firefox this could be fixed?
Best regards, Cristhian Garcia.

According to https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/8k3sq4/firefox_updated_to_6001_and_the_search_box_is_no/ there's something wrong with userchrome.css in the profile but that file should be patched if that's the case.
Why this hasn't been patched since it's introduction in version 60 is beyond me.

I'm using FF on Linux FC 30. If I download a file, let's say it's an RPM file it gives I get a dialog that says "You have chosen to open: Someprogram-1.2.3.rpm. What should Firefox do with this file Open with Apper Installer (default)"
If I click OK, nothing seems to happen. The "Apper" program does not open. Similarly, if I download a PDF, a PDF viewer does not open either. I'm not sure why it offers to open with that if it does not actually do it."
Instead, I have to click on the Downloads arrow, open the containing folder, right click on the file in a file explorer and have it open that application. Or, find wherever FF decided to put the file, currently FF favors /tmp/mozilla_my_id_0 and execute the program in a terminal.
I'd like to have FF actually do what it offered to do. I like to have it ask first. That part is good. But I want it to actually run the program. Apper exists on my system, and I have PDF viewers as well.
Secondly, I want to have FF download files in the normal Downloads folder and not some place off /tmp.
How can both things be fixed?
Thanks, Ben

Firefox lost all my logins/passwords. This happened last year and now it happens again. I've tried to find the old logins.json file and of course it does not work with it. It is empty. I'm using linux and there is no problem with any antivirus, it is simply a Firefox 'classical' error!
WHY is this happening? What is in the mind of the programmer responsible for this error? I can't understand why is he unable to keep a single file intact?
Why Mozilla is blaming the user for not having a backup. Firefox is messing this file, not the user! Why don't you fix Firefox and stop blaming the user? Why don't you simply FIX THE PROBLEM? You are "working on it" for years. Is it rocket science to JUST LET THE FILE ALONE?

I have Firefox installed on an XUbuntu 20.04.2 LTS machine. preferences to "restore previous session" on startup. Intermittently, when I launch the browser, one of my windows has a very strange appearance (please note the general look of the window in the attached screenshot and ignore the "page cannot be displayed" message, as the screenshot was taken when I was not connected to the Internet.)
I have already tried reseting Firefox and that does not make the problem go away permanently; it always comes back eventually. (Note: I cleared cache before, and cookies after, taking the screenshot but before opening this support request. So the "troubleshooting information" attached reflects how it is after cookies are cleared.)

I just downloaded ubuntu on my MSI laptop after 3 years on windows 10 and i have some weird issues with firefox.
Firefox sometimes just closes itself and ask me if i want to send a crash report. The thing is that i also have some issues when trying to download things (with wget, apt install, etc...) due to packet corruption. I think all those crashes are linked together but i can't figure out the issue. Pretty sure this is some hardware issue but i tested everything. Even brought my pc to a specialist. The computer seems completely healthy. Sometimes, even software updates fails (probably due to packet corruption as well). I really don't know what could cause this. I'm afraid this is some motherboard issue. I already installed ubuntu 2 times on two different Disk. i may also say that i made the switch to ubuntu because my Windows 10 was getting slow. My RAM seems fine as well, i have 8Gb and tested it with no issue.
Pretty lost at the moment.

Hi everyone!
When I browse the web with Firefox, it happens that the system becomes completely unresponsive. Some web pages seems to make Firefox using a lot of RAM and write a lot on the hard drive. I cannot actually say much more, because it not even possible to login in a console. The system is too slow and the console login times out... Firefox (or Web Content) writes wildly on the hard drive.
I used the Firefox provided by my Linux distribution (Linux Mint), but also the one downloaded from mozilla.org. The problem seems to be less frequent for the second, but it happend nevertheless.
The point is that this problem with Firefox happens sometimes, for example, when I forget the browser open on somehow demanding webpage (like in newspapers where there are a lot of media, graphics, and so on).
A point is also that I cannot replicate this "bug". If now I browsed the same pages that made the mess, nothing would probably happen.
I thought it had to do with the swap, but the system hanged both when the swap space was enabled and when it was disabled.
I saved a copy of the profile (and the cache) after the last crash, if they could be useful. The last time I had actually to force the shutdown of the computer, because there was no way to regain control over it.
Any ideas?
Thank you for your answers!

When I enter my username on the Penfed.org website, it replies with a dialogue box that simply says "Fail". Nothing else. I've attempted to login with troubleshoot mode without success. I've also cleared the cache and deleted Penfed cookies. No luck. I'm using version 89.0.2 (64-bit) with Firefox for Linux Mint 1.0.
