She denied permission to install helper at first, but that caused firefox to be dysfunctional. Retrying the install and giving permission to install the helper did not correct the problem. Her laptop is pretty much down for the count on this problem - firefox does not come up. Endless spinning beachball.

Is a work-around available?

It seems there is some conflict between the firefox helper and her VPN, private internet access (PIA) adding the login background task. She's. been using PIA for years.

I would try removing and re-installing firefox as a work-around but that would destroy the her bookmarks she relies on.

Thanks, Jerry

I am following the procedure outlined here at:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w_install-firefox-deb-package-for-debian-based-distributions-recommended

I get this error when I run the gpg command

2:05:29:490 1>#8 [base 5/8] RUN gpg -n -q --import --import-options import-show /etc/apt/keyrings/packages.mozilla.org.asc | awk '/pub/{getline; gsub(/^ +| +$/,""); if($0 == "35BAA0B33E9EB396F59CA838C0BA5CE6DC6315A3") print "\nThe key fingerprint matches ("$0").\n"; else print "\nVerification failed: the fingerprint ("$0") does not match the expected one.\n"}' 22:05:29:567 1>#8 0.285 gpg: keyblock resource '/home/.gnupg/pubring.kbx': No such file or directory 22:05:29:567 1>#8 0.285 gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.

I am not familiar with Linux and I thought that following the instructions would work so I am asking for help.

Here is the complete script.

RUN wget -q https://packages.mozilla.org/apt/repo-signing-key.gpg -O- | tee /etc/apt/keyrings/packages.mozilla.org.asc > /dev/null RUN gpg -n -q --import --import-options import-show /etc/apt/keyrings/packages.mozilla.org.asc | awk '/pub/{getline; gsub(/^ +| +$/,""); if($0 == "35BAA0B33E9EB396F59CA838C0BA5CE6DC6315A3") print "\nThe key fingerprint matches ("$0").\n"; else print "\nVerification failed: the fingerprint ("$0") does not match the expected one.\n"}' RUN echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/packages.mozilla.org.asc] https://packages.mozilla.org/apt mozilla main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mozilla.list > /dev/null RUN echo '\nPackage: *\nPin: origin packages.mozilla.org\nPin-Priority: 1000\n' | tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla RUN apt-get update && apt-get install firefox

Thank you.

I recently wiped my entire PC and installed a fresh copy of Windows 11 Pro on it. Ever since, I've been unable to get FireFox back. I've tried installing using the installer from website and using winget but both return with errors.

I'm able to install other applications, was able to install discord with no issues. With FireFox, installer opens and stay for a while before eventually saying that it was unable to install FireFox.

This is a completely fresh install of Windows. Used both media creation tool and cloud download using Reset this PC.

duplicate of /questions/1495342 thread

I try to install Firefox directly from the Mozilla repository.

For that, I read the article "Install Firefox on Linux" and followed the install instructions in first chapter "Debian-based distributions" step-by-step. (article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux)

Unfortunately, with every attempt to install Firefox, the Firefox LinuxMint (Ubundu) package will be still installed. The command to priorise the Mozilla repository seems to have no influenace.

How can I prevent/avoid using the LinuxMint/Ubundu repository? I wan't to install and update Firefox direct from Mozilla source.

I'm using Linux Mint 22.1 Xia base (Ubuntu 24.04 noble)
