When I watch a video on twitch or sometimes on youtube, after a while the computer heats up a lot and the fan starts spinning faster than usual. This only happens to me on Firefox and rarely on Chrome (on safari no). It happens on the MacBook Air 2018

I noticed, probably after the recent browser update, most videos will lag in full screen mode. The problem does not occur in Chrome, and when playing a video without full-screen.

For example. I'm watching a lecture and the teacher is going back and forth. During that he will freeze and lag, the audio works fine, than it continues. I also noticed that the effect can easily be caused by rewinding back for a few seconds.

Not sure if this is a my laptop, youtub's or the firefox problem.

I open FF (happens in Safe mode too), and after a couple minutes of running it stops responding to input, but tabs on live websites continue to update content as expected. Then I use the task bar , right click and try to close, the confirmation box pops up but acts like it's stuck in the background, clicking on anything FF does nothing even though it's still running (usually). I've disabled all add-ons, and run in safe mode, same behavior. It acts like it's waiting for input from a process (thread) running in the background and I just can't get to it. Task Manager does not offer the option to bring each thread to the foreground to inspect. Patched to the latest version.

Any Ideas?

Version 72.0.2 - Having a problem for the last couple of weeks with several websites where when a website wants to open a new tab, simply opens a blank page. Other browsers work fine. Any known fixes for this? Any way of completely uninstalling the app so I can reinstall it?

I use a password manager to store log in data and though this data populates, the log in does not move me forward. Rather, I'm given an error message that I have to log in in order to perform transactions, which of course I've just done. It's a circular effect that doesn't resolve. Using FF 72.0.2. When I use Chrome, I can log on easily. What has Firefox done to confound my log in; I think this began to happen following the last FF update.

I've created a new profile and it doesn't help. The site I'm trying to access is secured by a TLS Certificate. I have other things like AdBlock Plus and LastPass installed. I've rearranged the toolbar to my own preferences.

Resetting undoes most of my settings. There is a "TRY AGAIN" button that circumvents the issue. This is very annoying.

ALONE of all the Browsers I have (FIREFOX 72.0.2, CHROME 79.0.3945.130, INTERNET EXPLORER 11.592.18362,0, and EDGE 44.18362.449.0), FireFox fails to access this web-site. Something's wrong with FireFox?

When closing multiple tabs (>2), I receive the "You are about to close x Tabs" warning, which is fine. The problem is that following that warning, an extra, unintended tab closure occurs. i.e. If I close 2 tabs, I get the warning prompt, followed by a 3rd involuntary tab closure.

The gpu usage (more specifically the encoding) has crazy spikes which causes frames to drop (a lot of them).

I'm almost sure this only happens with vp9 and so far I've only seen it happen in 1080p and over (1080p60 etc).

The gpu should be more than able to play these. And in the moments it isn't spiking it's only using like 30 to 40% so it is more than able.

Edit 1: It's really strange because I just watched 4k60 videos and 1080p60 videos in both VP9 and AV and they worked just perfect and then I went to a 1080p24 in VP9 and it skips like hell. And then I went back to the previous video and it gets almost 100% skipped frames at 4k60 when just 5 minutes ago it was playing it fine.

So basically I can't successfully reproduce the problem the same way all the time. Maybe you guys have some tools I can use to do more in-depth testing.

Edit 2: I am now convinced that the problem lies with the iGPU not having enough memory because one common thing that I noticed every time there's skipping is that the vram is pretty much full. At the same time that's strange because the system should then use the system memory as shared memory, right? I checked my BIOS to see if I could increase the iGPU memory but it literally only gives me a single option, which isn't even the correct one since it shows 128MB and I have 256MB, or at least the specs of the laptop, Firefox (about:support) and Windows says so.

I know there's other laptops with this iGPU that can change that so if anyone has one that can test that we would know.

Most of the time but not all of the time Firefox appears to be missing all menus, but it seems that it has actually just nulled all the strings. The image shows the problem. This seems to be the case 100% if I click a link from email. Starting a new window does show the menu. I've tried the reset menu procedures I have found with no effect.

This is MacOS Catalina. I don't recall this happening prior to upgrading to Catalina.

Hi all, Long time user of Firefox and love it, however on my work computer it is very unstable. When loading up it seems fine until I click into another window and on returning FIrefox is is full screen mode.

I then have to Alt\view\fullscreen and then top right, restore to see the taskbar once again, however on top of this it seems very unstable and often when trying to click back into Firfox it will not allow me to do so and appears as if it has crashed. I then have to Alt-contr-del to close the program and stat again.

Have tried resetting Firefox without joy so a bit stuck as to what the issue could be? Any assistant would be greatly appreciate as I run all the same plug-ins on my home computer and works perfectly!

Dear All, my Firefox is broken. It starts and shows a blank tab, but I cannot open any site, not even about:config or the options pane. Typing anything in the address bar or the search bar and pressing Return does nothing.

The only things I can do is opening new tabs (which will remain blank), and clicking on menu items in the main menu. None of the items that would open any dialog works, though.

So far I have tried:

  • Starting Firefox in safe mode
  • Creating and using a new profile (firefox.exe /p)
  • Uninstall FF and re-installing the latest version
  • Uninstalling FF and installing a previous version (downgrade), using a new profile
  • Deleting all mozilla and firefox entries in the registry in an uninstall / reinstall cycle

Now I am out of ideas. Any help is welcome. Thanks!

After a recent beta version installed, my profile seems to have a corrupt configuration file. But I don't know how to figure out which one. It only happens on my Windows 10 laptop. My profile syncs with another Windows 10 laptop, 2 user accounts on a Linux Mint desktop, and an LG phone. I followed the support article and changed the settings so that I was only on the release channel, rather than the Beta channel. I tried the Refresh Firefox. After resyncing my profile, the error returned. I uninstalled the newer Beta release, completely deleted the User/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla folder. I reinstalled the current release (72.0.2). After resyncing my profile, the error still returned. Every time I start Firefox, I get the annoyance of the error dialog box. After clicking OK, Firefox opens and works perfectly fine. How do I find which file in my profile is causing the error on just one computer?

I am using Apple Mail on a Mac. This has been going on for some time but to add to the annoyance the window containing the link material loses the main toolbar menus at the top, it says "Firefox" but the other menu items are missing. Another question on this issue was from a Windows User but has not yet been resolved.
