Last night firefox was working fine. This morning when I started it, it did an update and ever since it will not start and continues to crash. I have provided a few reports and submitting the list. I have tried refreshing it, deleting it, uninstalling it and reinstalling it, even reinstalled it just using the defaults and still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

I have rather abruptly lost all audio in Firefox 77 on Windows 10. YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Facebook videos - all silent.

Meanwhile, I'm getting sound as usual when viewing those things in Chrome (and I would really prefer not to have to go back to Chrome), and all sound from other sources is working correctly - games, iTunes, Spotify, etc.

Does Firefox hook into my system's audio functions in some unique way, different from everything else? I've recently started experimenting with doing my own music and video recording/editing, and I've tried out a number of different audio/video apps in an attempt to find the tools that suit me, and I'm starting to wonder if one of the apps I tried modified or overwrote whatever system hook that Firefox was using.

Strangely enough, the audio spontaneously started working again yesterday, a few hours after it stopped, and was still working today until I rebooted my machine. Then it was gone again.

Hello,

As of today, Firefox crashes on start-up systematically. I am running Kubuntu 20.04. I have removed and re-installed Firefox, updated my system and rebooted, to no avail.

Firefox also crashes immediately in safe mode.

So I've been using Firefox a while, I didn't make any sort of significant change and literally while using it I opened a new tab typed something in the address bar to search for and it just didn't do anything. Thought that was weird so I tried it a few more times just searching simple things like "test." That still didn't do anything. So I tried going directly to a url, https://www.google.com/. That didn't do anything, still a blank white screen. So I restart it. It didn't change anything. So I refresh it. It didn't change anything. So I uninstall it and reinstall it. Didn't change anything. I change profiles by doing win+r then firefox.exe -P. That didn't do anything.

Perhaps the worst part is I ALSO can't access any settings. I can press the menu, 3 bar icon in the top right corner, but when I click any of those things, nothing happens. I don't know what to do.

I don't know if firefox somehow auto updated or something and it broke or what. I was literally using it, I had like 4 or 5 active tabs open with loaded windows and it just stopped working.

Any help would be appreciated as I'd still prefer firefox and don't want to deal with getting everything switched to chrome.

Didn't see the edit post button initially but here's some more troubleshooting I've done: I ran firefox in safe mode, nothing changed. I ran CCleaner in hopes if getting rid of temporary files which could mess with stuff, nothing changed. I restarted my computer, and what do you know, nothing changed.

This is a question I am migrating from LQ - the original question (with a bunch of details) is here: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/firefox-won%27t-start-on-xubuntu-4175691712/

The issue is that Firefox will not start on my Ubuntu 20.04. This started randomly a few weeks ago - it might be related to an update, but I did not noticed anything specific. Here's the error messages:

$ firefox -safe-mode
ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 3792
ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child
ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal...

As detailed in that post, I have tried many variations of reinstalling, scrubbing my system, making sure I am updated, and looking at the systemd logs.

Since then, I have also tried to run firefox with gdb, and I get a seg fault:

 $ firefox -g
GNU gdb (Ubuntu 9.2-0ubuntu1~20.04) 9.2
....
[New Thread 0x7fffe52e3700 (LWP 3166)]
[New Thread 0x7fffe52a2700 (LWP 3167)]
--Type <RET> for more, q to quit, c to continue without paging--
Thread 1 "firefox" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x00007ffff2719c5b in ?? () from /usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so

I have found some suggestions that errors relating to libxul may be memory related, but I passed a memtest86 this morning, so back to zero. Anyone here have any thoughts?

Changed the options at Windows Firewall settings (deleting Firefox and adding it again as indicated in support posts) 4. All the above after starting in Safe Mode

If that helps or haw something to do with Firefox problem, I have downloaded and installed Proton VPN (a service by ProtonMail company) relatively recently

Any ideas please?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi I've been trying to get a friend's Firefox working for him, on a 64bit W10 install, but every time it just crashes immediately.

I've uninstalled Firefox, though I had to go to the uninstall folder as it wasn't listed under Apps

I've tried downloading the full installer, installing to a different folder

Firefox never gets as far as showing in Task Manager

I've got a number of crash reports which are just empty text files; their IDs are: bp-490fe8de-2b11-47b9-a9e5-3c5950200309 bp-7152bf43-39d0-48f4-a70b-039ca0200309 bp-a362807e-de39-431d-b71a-f23790200309 bp-cde0b6c5-559f-4e6f-9b2b-3b7b50200309 bp-e87b5d15-29ad-4223-8241-d742f0200309 bp-fd5ee411-1ef2-48f8-9520-5080a0210315

Can anyone give me a clue as to what might be wrong? Thanks

PS - Chrome is also liable to crash, but Edge seems OK.

I have had Firefox downloaded for a considerable amount of time and had begun to use it as my daily browser, until I started experiencing issues, concerning the loading. I have experienced this issue in all cases when trying to open the browser through the desktop shortcut, other icons, and even the .exe file, and typically I will see a brief white screen of Firefox before it immediately closes again. Frustrating to say the least and a quick google provides no insight. I have attempted on multiple occasions to uninstall and reinstall, however to no avail, and have even tried to create a new profile, via the Run (Firefox.exe -P) but again with no success. Running the browser in Safe Mode (Shift) will also work for a split second with the dialogue opening and then instantly shutting. Any suggestion on a potential fix would be great.

My wife has both Firefox 86.0 NS Firefox 86.0.1 installed on her computer. She continues to experience tab crashes and other problems when playing casino games on Facebook. I don't know if the fact that 2 versions are installed is causing the problems, but I only have 86.0.1 on my computer and don't have any problems. The problem is, I tried to remove 86.0, but it will only allow me to refresh. The same is true for 86.0.1. Does she need to get rid of 86.0 and how can she do it? Thanks for any help you can give me.
