In 21.04, I was able to successfully enable VA-API support for Firefox for hardware video acceleration using my amdgpu on Wayland. Mainly, following steps from https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2021/08/enable-hardware-video-acceleration-va-api-for-firefox-in-ubuntu-20-04-18-04-higher/

Since upgraded to 21.10 which uses snap version by default, I've noticed increased CPU usage when playing youtube videos. When I checked by running Firefox from command line, I can see that I can't seems to open vaapi driver correctly:

$ /snap/bin/firefox Importing existing firefox profiles from /home/ymchen/.mozilla/firefox Found default profile: dhjf4r7r.default-1587103347891 Import done in 3.141 s amdgpu: os_same_file_description couldn't determine if two DRM fds reference the same file description. If they do, bad things may happen! libva info: VA-API version 1.7.0 libva info: Trying to open /snap/firefox/631/gnome-platform/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1 libva info: VA-API version 1.7.0 libva info: Trying to open /snap/firefox/631/gnome-platform/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1

Installing firefox from apt, I can see that vaapi still works:

$ /usr/bin/firefox libva info: VA-API version 1.12.0 libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_12 libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0 libva info: VA-API version 1.12.0 libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_12 libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0 libva info: VA-API version 1.12.0

Curiously, VA-API version available in snap version is older 1.7.0 compared to the apt installed version 1.12.0. Perhaps the "packaged" version of the dependencies in snap version is outdated?

I've also noticed that the file /snap/firefox/631/gnome-platform/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so does not exist.

Any idea how to get Firefox snap to work with VA-API? Thanks

Whenever I have a tab playing any form of audio, and another different tab begins playing audio, both tabs will stutter/pause for about a second, and block each other momentarily. This is especially noticeable whenever I use something like Discord, where the constant pings will frequently interrupt my YouTube video. Even when I mute the Discord tab, it still causes my YouTube video to stutter and pause.

I have tried deleting Firefox completely, and removing all old add-on/extensions, preferences, %appdata% files, etc., and nothing works. I don't get this issue at all when using Chrome or Edge, so I'm having a hard time understanding why this is happening. Many years ago, back when I first used Firefox, I never encountered this issue.

Now that I re-downloaded Firefox this last year, I've had this annoying issue without any way to remove it. I'm quickly approaching my wit's end trying to solve this issue. I have asked a few friends who use Firefox, and none of them have this issue. All the guides from this site so far have proves unhelpful in trying to resolve my issue. If you could help out, please let me know!

As above. I don't really keep track of versions but it's at v93 right now and only this week started to perform extremely slowly with regards to the initial loading of ~90% of the pages I visit, even cached and frequented sites. Once past that it performs as normal. Speedtesting is fine but Browserbench results are horrendous. (This is my first time running this test so I don't have a previous FF result to compare with.)

FF93: 59.497 Chrome95: 119.820 Edge95: 117.970

Already tried: clearing site data and cache, incognito, safe mode, and of course cutting addons to a minimum.

Currently installed: AdBlock Plus Dark Reader Don't Accept image/webp Facebook Container ffCK Overlays uBlock Origin View Image Ressurected YouTube NonStop

Can someone advise what else can be done or what is going on please? I've been faithful to FF for over a decade and have all my bookmarks, history and credentials saved to this account. However if this is going to be the user experience moving forward - then all I can say is I will not be joining the declining Firefox user base. W10, i5-9400f, 32GB ram, wired CAT6 + 1Gbit Fibre.

Hi, I prefer to use Firefox but had to migrate to Edge because I'm unable to view Ring Live Cameras with Firefox. Chrome and Edge work without an issue but all I get with Firefox is "Activating Live View" but nothing happens past that. This seems really odd because Firefox will play videos taken by the cameras in the "History" section of the same web page without issue. I'm using Windows 11 with Firefox 93.0 (64 bit) hanks

Hi all, I am the backend developer for a website that our company hosts. I want to have Firefox be fully supported in our site but we are having an issue when we try to redirect from our home page to our SSO okta page.

The error in the console is that it can't find the route to our login endpoint. When I looked into it a bit further I saw that we were getting a 504 gateway timeout while trying to run that section of code.

I know the route exists and works because we have no problems when using Chrome based browsers, and Firefox loads just fine while in private mode.

Any help is appreciated. I will furnish code snippets if needed. I'm just not quite sure how to proceed with figuring out what's going on.

The site is https and we have CORS enabled for it in our Okta server

Any help is appreciated. Please let me know if I haven't provided enough information.

Thanks, Brian O

I have a new Windows 11 installation (Fresh) and all my browsers are working ok except for FF. Whenever I click a link, the first window opens properly but when clicking a second link FF always gives me the error "firefox is already running but not responding. the old firefox process must be closed."

Ofcourse I searched the net and tried all the suggestions on this support page and what I googled. I installed FF Dev Edition, which shows the same issue. I created other profiles, same issue. In the end I tried (several times) to uninstall FF thoroughly (uninstalled, manually removed all installer files, appdata files, and even cleaned the registry) but all to no avail.

I am using Edge now, but I don't want to. Please help!

Every time I've tried to use Spotify Web for the past week, I get an error message that states: "Firefox is installing components needed to play audio and video on this page. Please try again later."

I've tried to enable and re-enable DRM, it hasn't worked. On opening browser console, I get the following message:

1635858182761 Toolkit.GMP ERROR GMPInstallManager.simpleCheckAndInstall Could not check for addons: {"status":"failed","results":[{"id":"gmp-widevinecdm","result":"failed"}]}

I went into plugins and this is what showed under Widevine: Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc. will be installed shortly.

The only security software I have is McAfee ,and I'd gladly exempt Widevine from it's firewall, except I have no idea where it is or what to do.

Please advise. Thank you.

When I download a .step file through Firefox it adds .txt at the end of the file name. So test.step becomes test.step.txt

When I try to open the file immediately with a .step file viewer, it gives an error saying the file type isn't supported. This is expected, because Firefox presents it as a .txt file to the .step file viewer.

But then when I choose "Save file" and save it to my downloads folder, the name changes back to .step

I've tested this with multiple devices with a clean, up-to-date (version 94.0 64 bits) install of Firefox, but it always adds the .txt at the end of the file name.

Is this a bug? Is there a way to change this with a extension or different version?

On every start of the firefox browser it opens the previous session as wanted but additionally it also opens a new window. This window opens the page set as "Homepage and new windows".

I would like to change the behaviour so that firefox only opens the previous session.

Note that the following post and its answer can I stop an additional firefox window from opening at startup? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1282272#question-reply

did not solve my problem.

Thanks in advance.

Firefox Version: 94.0 Computer: Mid 2012 MacBook Pro Catalina 10.15.7 Video of Crash

This seems to be related to WebGL, however, https://get.webgl.org shows the spinning cube fine. It also doesn't look like WebGL is getting disabled. When I tried setting webgl.force-enabled and layers.acceleration.force-enabled from false to true like some articles online suggested, nothing changed. When I tried going to the page in Troubleshoot mode, Firefox didn't crash, but it also couldn't load the page due to missing the WebGL context. I attached a screenshot of the console. I also refreshed Firefox, but that didn't work either. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
