I have today had to refresh Firefox because it kept crashing on opening and I could not open it. Another thread said a Refresh was the best solution, so I now have Firefox V 40.0 using Windows 10.0 OS.

Suddenly, 2 hours after the refresh, it has slowed down to a snail's pace - slower than a very slow thing, like watching paint dry, like have an old-fashioned dial-up connection. Takes about 15 seconds to load my home page, and just as long to change pages, either within the same website or when connecting to a new website.

What has happend and what can I do to corrcet this? Is there something in the profile or add-ons of my old version of FF that I need to add in to the new version?

I used to really like Firefox, but today is beginning to destroy my faith in the product.

Cheers

I have uninstalled Firefox 40, deleted the profiles folder, reinstalled Firefox, restored Firefox 40 and profiles from a backup and I am still getting this message. I even downgraded to a previous version and restored the profiles for that version and still this nasty error crops up on anything I try to do. I cannot find any info on where other files files are stored that I am not restoring or changing that are still lingering. I have never seen anything like this. This is after spending 3 weeks completely updating and changing Firefox to suit my needs and dumping Chrome, this is what I get. It appears I will have to move back to chrome as I need a browser that works. I have tried everything I can find regarding this to no avail. I am really upset over this especially after all the time spent moving from Chrome to Firefox. I really need an answer or I will have to delete Firefox and move back to Chrome as much as I hate to do that. It still works!! Anyone have an answer for this? Is their no one at Mozilla to help with this? Help!

Hi Everyone,

I've been getting random crashes with my FFx that I have not been able to solve by myself so far. It appears that the browser is running out of memory, but I would like your take on these.

Here are the last 5 crash reports:

bp-8452563c-add5-442b-9228-d0a5e2150813 8/13/2015 10:05 eafd9fd5-b97a-4479-9547-deea29a51b4f 8/13/2015 10:01 bp-b476f5ab-3755-4d27-a86b-fbef52150812 8/12/2015 16:31 bp-bb2dc85f-99a7-43ef-bcd0-95e062150811 8/11/2015 8:40 bp-51bfce44-ac3b-4bf2-9b27-27ea22150805 8/5/2015 9:08

Most of the crashes happen on "image heavy" websites, such as Zillow and Google Maps (satellite views and especially Street View). I thought the problem is related to Flash, but the sites no longer use Flash, based on what I can see. I can reproduce the crashes at will by going to Street View and navigating around or loading the Satelline view and moving around the map. That type of activity will usually crash the browser within 1-2 minutes.

Right before the each crash, the screen flickers and all tab labels, except the current tab, go blank. The contents of the current tab disappears. Sometimes the entire window turns black. It still has the window's Minimize / Restore / Close buttons visible, but restoring or minimizing the window does not clear the problem in most cases - the browser usually closes itself and the crash reporter and "plugin container" windows pop up.

I've read other advice on this topic on the forums and have already tried upgrading the browser to the latest version, using the latest video drivers (even those provided by Intel, instead of Lenovo), using Safe mode, using the "reset the browser" feature", as well as creating a brand new profile for myself and not installing any add-ons, themes, search accellerators, etc.

I've also tried disabling hardware acceleration - while that makes the crashes take longer to reproduce (a few mins instead of 1-2) it does not help to stop them.

The PC I'm using is a Lenovo laptop (32-bit with 4G of RAM). I can't install more RAM due to hardware limitations, and I can't upgrade the laptop, as it belongs to the company.

Is there anything that can be done to make Firefox not crash, even at the expense of other apps that may be running on the system? Right not it seems to get to 1.2Gig of used memory before shutting itself down. It still seems to hit that 1.2Gig limit, regardless of available memory and running applications. Is there any way to make it use more available memory?

Thanks in advance for taking your time to read / respond to this.

A site I use regularly has recently been revamped and the new page is wider than my wide monitor screen. There is no horizontal slider to enable scanning across. I enquired of their helpline and was told that the log-in box is in the top right hand corner of the screen. The part I cannot access!!. The help site further said it must be my problem not theirs. Not very helpful.

I have tried minimising the screen and pulling the side but that merely makes the screen larger without revealing any more of the web page.

Has anyone any advice or suggestions?

On August 10, 2015 when I opened Firefox to access my eMail accoutn, a popup dialogue appeared offering added online ID protection. It appeared to be an offering from Mozilla, so I went and signed up for it. However, when I got to the point where they were asking for my Social Security number, I quit. Unfortunately, in the process prior to this stage, I must have authorized a trial of this offering and had given them my Debit Card number assuming that I would be charged only $1.00. On the 15th I received an eMail alert from my bank saying that my card had be used for a purchase outside the United States. The amount was for $29.95 by ThinkCredit. That same day I called them at 800-424-0262 and asked them what the charge was for, and was told that it was for a 7 day trial for Credit Reporting. I said that I was not interested, and was told that they would cancel the order (Cancellation #79845570). I notified my bank and they said they would monitor the account to make sure the charge had been reversed. Yesterday I received my bank statement and noticed the my account had been charge $1.00 twice on the 10th. Once for a recurring charge for the ThinkCredit, and once for a recurring charge for Idsafelock (800-316-0249) I know that this is a rather lengthy explanation preceding my question of: Was the aforementioned Popup dialogue box initiated by either Mozilla or Firefox?

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation and consideration in answering my question, I remain,
