I am on a Mac. This morning there was an update which I installed. Now the homepage and many others like Wikipedia and Google and Gmail all have a strange handwriting font that I can't seem to get rid of. I have tried going into preferences - all the settings look the same. I have tried changing them to no effect. I have clicked and un-clicked the option to allow web pages to choose the font - no change. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox...nothing. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

I currently have a terminal that is being loaded with a pre-generated boot image (not unlike a live CD), however when I created the image I used Firefox 3.6.8.
Last week I rebuilt the image with Firefox 3.6.10, yet all of my settings were still "linked" to 3.6.8, and as a result the "Firefox Updated" page is trying to load. This terminal will NOT have any means of access that site, and this terminal should NEVER ever show that page. It is configured to load a specific page, and only that page. Yet, no matter how I configure my prefs.js file, it always tries to show the "Firefox Updated" page, here are my settings:
user_pref("browser.migration.version", 0); user_pref("browser.places.importBookmarksHTML", false); user_pref("browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion", 2); user_pref("browser.rights.3.shown", false); user_pref("browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash", false); user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://my_startup_site.com/index.php"); user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "ignore"); user_pref("browser.tabs.warnOnClose", false); user_pref("distribution.openSUSE.bookmarksProcessed", false); user_pref("extensions.enabledItems", "susefox@opensuse.org:1.0.1,{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.6.10"); user_pref("extensions.lastAppVersion", "3.6.10"); user_pref("extensions.update.autoUpdate", "false"); user_pref("extensions.update.autoUpdateEnabled", "false"); user_pref("extensions.update.notifyUser", false); user_pref("intl.charsetmenu.browser.cache", "UTF-8"); user_pref("network.cookie.prefsMigrated", true); user_pref("privacy.sanitize.migrateFx3Prefs", true); user_pref("signon.rememberSignons", false); Yet, when the system finishes booting I get this: user_pref("app.update.lastUpdateTime.places-maintenance-timer", 1282780604); user_pref("app.update.lastUpdateTime.search-engine-update-timer", 1282780734); user_pref("browser.migration.version", 1); user_pref("browser.places.importBookmarksHTML", false); user_pref("browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion", 2); user_pref("browser.rights.3.shown", true); user_pref("browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash", false); user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://my_startup_site.com/index.php"); user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "rv:1.9.2.8"); user_pref("browser.tabs.warnOnClose", false); user_pref("distribution.openSUSE.bookmarksProcessed", true); user_pref("extensions.enabledItems", "susefox@opensuse.org:1.0.1,{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.6.10"); user_pref("extensions.lastAppVersion", "3.6.10"); user_pref("extensions.update.notifyUser", false); user_pref("intl.charsetmenu.browser.cache", "UTF-8"); user_pref("network.cookie.prefsMigrated", true); user_pref("privacy.sanitize.migrateFx3Prefs", true); user_pref("signon.rememberSignons", false); user_pref("urlclassifier.keyupdatetime.https://sb-ssl.google.com/safebrowsing/newkey", 1285372400);
The prefs.js file is downloaded the first time the system boots, if it requires an update, otherwise it simply uses what is on the disk. It is during the importing phase that this breaks.
As you can see in my first listing, I'm attempting to disable automatic updating of anything, and I've used a whole bunch of web-sites to try to get this to work. Based on all of the information I have looked over, I should be able to leave this as is:
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "ignore");
And simply update these:
user_pref("extensions.enabledItems", "susefox@opensuse.org:1.0.1,{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.6.10"); user_pref("extensions.lastAppVersion", "3.6.10");
To what ever version is new. I'd prefer to not have to do anything at all. I want to be able to use the newer versions at will with out having to clear my profile, and not get that update page.
As soon as I type in the first letter (i.e. e for ebay) it continues to give the sites that I thought I had erased.

Creating a landing page for a client with embedded video. She prefers not to embed a YouTube video on her site. Is there a way I can embed an mp4 file in her site so that it will play in firefox 3.6? Now it is trying to launch quicktime, which firefox blocks due to extension instability. Thx.

I had this issue with the 3.6.10 update. I went to help>update and it started to download and there was a server issue so it stopped. I restarted the update download and it said 10.1 mb, it downloaded and completed. Usually when updating via help>update in Firefox the incremental updates are around 1.7mb.
Thinking maybe I downloaded a uncompessed installer I downloaded the Firefox 3.6.10 installer from the Firefox site(8mb) and extracted it, it's 28mb. Interesting.

Firefox has been quitting unexpectedly but this time all my history was erased and the back and forward buttons don't work. A red bar appears with the message: The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files may be in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem. I was going to just delete Firefox so I downloaded Safari. Suddenly, Firefox came back to normal except for it still wouldn't save any history. So when searching on Google my recent searches weren't being changed to purple - that meant I wasn't able to know which items I had viewed already. After about an hour of Firefox working fairly well, it crashed all over again and once again I have the above message and no history.
