Firefox developer locked out because of 2-factor authentication

Two days ago I tried to log into my account at addons.mozilla.org, but the page would not take the codes from my Google authenticator, or any of the saved recovery codes. I was able to change the password via email reset, but no way getting in to disable the 2-factor thing. I can't even seek support from that account, and this is why I'm using a different account to post here.

I want to add that this behavior started suddenly without my having changed anything on my account. The support page that instructs users to reset the clock on Google Authenticator is incorrect, too, since this app does not provide that function (maybe it did in the past, I guess).

Bottom line: I'm stuck and my addons are not getting updated. I'm sure Mozilla wants me to update them, but they have to provide a way for me to log in. Regrettably, it seems to be impossible to talk to a person.

I updated my Firefox today and now videos do not play.

I had this problem back in April after an update and I spent weeks troubleshooting it. Eventually I got it to work after trying all of the following (then, and again now):

Things I've Tried: 1.) Clearing data (cache and cookies) 2.) Turning off "Strict Mode" 3.) Running CCleaner 4.) Disabling/enabling HW acceleration 5.) Checking that the DRM box is checked (and trying it without it checked) 6.) Refreshing Firefox 7.) Uninstalling/Reinstalling 8.) Updating my Windows install 9.) Updating drivers 10.) Disabling all Firefox extensions 11.) Running without extensions 12.) Running in Firefox Troubleshooting Mode 13.) Running Windows in Safe Mode with Networking 14.) Running a fresh install of Firefox without signing in after deleting all traces of Firefox from my PC (including Program Data folders, registry entries, etc.)

What finally worked back in April was to dive into "about:config" and change "media.rdd-processenable" to "false".

That fix does not work this time around.

In the meantime I've been using Brave and having no issues. I've tried video playback in Chrome, Opera, and Edge on this computer with no issues. This playback problem is exclusive to Firefox.

Video playback still works just fine on my 4 home PCs running Windows 10 and Pop_OS (3 self-built, one Asus laptop) using this same build of Firefox.

Other/Rant: I suspect this is a Firefox/Windows 11 problem. Most likely this is not something I can fix myself, but it's incredibly frustrating since I'm buried deep in the Mozilla ecosystem and use it for work. I'd prefer not to have to swap between browsers just so I can watch videos; too many windows open on this tiny work laptop isn't fun to juggle. Basic video playback is the #1 thing I use my web browser for at both work and home so it'd be nice if this irritating, months-long, unacceptable issue were resolved. A modern browser that has video playback issues? What good is it then? What's most irritating is that it seems I'm the one of a very small number of users with this issue, since I see very little posted about it online.

I've been a Firefox user primarily for almost half a decade now - moved over from Chrome for privacy issues. Never had a problem until 4/22 of this year and considering it's still an issue 3 months later... it has me re-evaluating the reliability and my commitment to an otherwise amazing browser.

I've been trying to sign in to my account on the browser, but I keep failing. Everytime I finish all the sign-in steps, the email notification sounds indicating that the signin activity. However, the browser still asks my to sign in (see picture 1 in the attachment) I tried to sign-in on my virtural machine and its completely normal (so as on my android phone)

Mozilla Firefox, version 103 for Windows now automatically attempts to connect to a URL Botnet site, https://ap.lijit.com/rtb/bid?src=prebid_prebid_6.18.0. My AVG Internet Security stops these continuous attempts and shows the path is c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe.

This is very concerning, and I am uncertain exactly what to do. I have manually downloaded this version again today and nothing changes.

hi folks, xpcom can not be opened or something of the sort. the file name contains xpcom. when this happens firefox locks up and cannot be restarted. this problem started about the first of July, 2022. i have uninstalled, refreshed, reinstlled. refresh did not change anything within a week the problem reaccured. this last time i only uninstalled it. used another browser that cam with the computer to reinstall. the system is windows 7 homepremium x64 bit. asus brand computer tower not a laptop. any help you can give will be most helpful. i have been using firefox since netscape went under. i have owned an operated computes for over 30 years. i can not figure this one out. help me....

Now there is only one scrollbar, scrolling the article, and it is difficult/impossible to scroll down the comments. The image on the right (without the photo) is from Firefox. The image on the left (with the photo) is from Edge. As you can see, on Edge there are two scrollbars, one for the article and one for the comments. Can you help?

I am fine with the fact that ad-blocker is slowing down my service. I would rather that than have organizations like google tracking my every move so I am OK with the slowdowns. What I am NOT OK with is CONSTANT messages from my browser telling me about the slowdowns. Can the Messages be acknowledged then stopped? The constant interruption of my browsing by these messages is far more annoying than the slowdowns themselves. Thank you for any assistance you might render.

I've tried troubleshoot mode and also the add on but neither changed anything. Champagne problem , I know but... volume leves are so variable...would be nice to attenuate. Thanks

Hi. Have searched FF help re "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead" but I don't see a clear answer that I understand!

I have my Router, NAS, etc. with local URLs (192.168...) to access their web front-ends. FireFox (FF) is set to "Enable HTTPS-Only Mode in all windows". Whenever I enter these URLs into FF it gives me the error "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead". For my router it says certificate MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_SELF_SIGNED_CERT. For my NAS it says SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER. Both are very reputable companies, but clearly have not provided well prepared Certificates. I can of course "Accept the risk and continue", since I know both are valid local services. But this has to be done each time. My "acceptance" is not retained.

Is there a better, safe solution? If so, please explain in easy language for the non-technical reader.

I've been using Firefox as my Default Browser for years but lately I keep getting the web page to Install Mozilla. I select the install button and I get a response that it's already installed on my desk top. My only choices are to install additional features. I went ahead and completed that. Now every time I select Mozilla Firefox, I get this same install screen. I seem to be in a loop! Can you help me fix this? I've checked my settings and Firefox is my default browser!

I was using Firefox to check my email on aol.com like I have for years. After deleting a few emails, I got a software update notice to upgrade Firefox to the latest version which I've done many times before. After the update, taking me to the What's New in Firefox page, and reopening tabs my aol tab showed 31 messages for a blip before refreshing and showing only 6. Many messages from my aol inbox were gone. Not in another folder. Just disappeared. Strangely now those messages don't appear in ANY browser or my phone. Any insight?
