So i have old Bookmarks.

very old.

The Bookmarks file dated 2014. What version the Firefox was that generated that files i do not know.

If i import those .json files there are none Bookmarks imported.....

The new shiny fancy format is json packed with lz4. Can i deactivate this? I do not want compression! Bookmarks are text, text can be packed, but no not in modern times. Modern Times require speed not space. Or in other words: I want the bookmarks seachable with my editor.... I have space for a few TB for bookmarks.

Firefox 87.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 20.10 is currently unusable as it won't open anything.

  • Firefox opens with no page loaded.
  • Clicking the single "getting started" bookmark does nothing.
  • Entering a search term in the address bar and pressing 'enter' changes the url in the address bar but nothing is loaded and the page remains blank. There is no indication that anything is loading.
  • Entering a url, such as "www.youtube.com", and pressing "enter" does nothing. There is no indication that anything is loading.
  • Opening the menu by clicking on the burger icon, then on "preferences" does nothing except make the menu disappear (same with most of the options in the menu).

In the browser console I see some errors and no request info (see screenshot).

I've tried `sudo apt purge firefox` then installing again, which didn't help. The problem started with ubuntu 20.04 (I only updated to 20.10 to see if it might resolve this problem).

I've tried the "refresh firefox" option, starting in safe mode, and clearing the startup cache, which didn't help.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I had a different issue I came here for, but I discovered a very serious bug while I was writing my question, so I want to make sure this gets addressed first.

After writing my question, I clicked the "share data" button below. I got a message "We can't automatically get your browser's troubleshooting data, please try these manual steps. " Without thinking, I clicked the link to the "manual steps." Unfortunately, instead of opening a new tab, which would be the expected behavior, clicking the link took me off the get help form page (the page I'm on as I write this). What's worse, when I used the back button to return to the previous page, everything I'd written was gone. Obviously, the expected behavior would be to not take the user off the page in the first place, but if for some reason it did, to autosave the writing so it can be restored when the user returns.

This kind of bug used to be a lot more common in the early days, when I first started using the web, 25 years ago. I used to have a boilerplate describing the problem because I was sending reports of the bug so frequently. I've only encountered it twice, to my recollection, in the last 5 years. Firefox's website would have been one of the last places I'd ever expect to find a bug this glaring and elementary.

Thanks!

I'm seeing some weird behavior in FF.

I have an HTML page that allows the user to click on a link to trigger a file upload to a remote server. The file being uploaded is usually > 2GB and takes a LONG time to upload (sometimes > 1.5hrs due to slow link to remote server).

What we see is the remote server ends up with multiple corrupted versions of the same file.

Could it be that FF is silently timing out waiting for a HTTP response and then retrying to upload the file? I can't think of any other explanation for the multiple files, since the user only clicks once on the hyperlink.

Thank you, Dan

For a few days, Firefox has been freezing at certain pages and interactions. For instance:

Other pages work fine. When the freeze happens, the whole browser becomes completely unresponsive, including the window controls. The following is printed in the console if I launch FF from console:

``` ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 10319 ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal... ```
I am running FF version 88.0 (64-bit) on Arch Linux under Gnome on Wayland, installed through pacman.
What I have tried without success:
  • Using a new FireFox profile (no extensions, history, cookies, etc)
  • With and without WebRender
  • With and without Wayland composition (`MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND`)
  • All combinations of the two above
  • Restarting the system, updating the system, reinstalling firefox
  • Running mozregression
With mozregression I had the issue for all builds since `56f6da03c7e352f53fa923b30f66dfdf09a34116`, for all older builds I get the "Gah. Your tab just crashed." message.
I don't have issues with other programs or web browsers.
System locks-up when I go to Yahoo start page and try to scroll, though I'm able to get to email. This is the only site that crashes. Have to do a hard shutdown since HD and cursor are frozen. This has been going on since last FF update, maybe even the one before. Plug-ins are uBlock Origin and Video DownloadHelper. Anyone else experience this?
Is this known behavior? Has it been reported to Mozilla? Found nothing from a search.
What happened to FireFox Version 88.0.1? I updated to this version yesterday after a lot of nagging from popups.
Prob 1. Try to open a link from email and I get, "Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to input.mozilla.org. PR_CONNECT_ABORTED_ERROR The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem."
When I try the same link in Safari, which tends to be grumpier than Firefox about security issues. it works just fine; no complaints and the page opens.
Prob 2 ( IMO related ). Try to open a bookmark and I get, "The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
   If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
   If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."
Again, when I try the same link or site in Safari, works just fine.
Hello.
I am using Ubuntu 21.04 and after the upgrade I got different issues with Mozilla products. FF is: 88.0 64-bit TB is: 78.8.1 (64-Bit)
One is: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile." appears if I click on links in emails. It doesn't matter if they're linked to youtube, are an online version of the email etc. Always the same message.
I tried to assign Firefox as a standard browser and changed to another one, started the system again, ran Thunderbird and Firefox and it still happened. I tried changing something in the config editor, doesn't help at all. I checked for files / attachments and what should happen with http/https. There's no entry, which is fine according to mozilla help. The settings are the same as before the upgrade. I don't understand why it doesn't work anymore.
And second problem is: When clicking a email link in Firefox it doesn't open in Thunderbird. Error message is: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To use Thunderbird, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, restart your device, or use a different profile."
It also doesn't work if I have run FF and TB in safe mode at the same time or in other constellations (FF in safe mode, TB not and vice versa)
Any other ideas?
Firefox lost all my logins/passwords. This happened last year and now it happens again. I've tried to find the old logins.json file and of course it does not work with it. It is empty. I'm using linux and there is no problem with any antivirus, it is simply a Firefox 'classical' error!
WHY is this happening? What is in the mind of the programmer responsible for this error? I can't understand why is he unable to keep a single file intact?
Why Mozilla is blaming the user for not having a backup. Firefox is messing this file, not the user! Why don't you fix Firefox and stop blaming the user? Why don't you simply FIX THE PROBLEM? You are "working on it" for years. Is it rocket science to JUST LET THE FILE ALONE?
Firefox won't stay downloaded to my computer. I am having to download it multiple times, especially if my computer has updates.
On a separate note, when it does actually stay on my computer over night, it never keeps me signed in to my Firefox account. I have to log in to it daily to have my bookmarks and passwords.
Also, it never remembers the theme I have picked for it. I would love some advice on how to fix this.
I've read through a ton of articles, and I can't seem to find a fix.
Hi,
I'm developping a custom tool in order to automatically clean my cookies from several websites. For example, I would like to automatically remove cookies from twitter.com every time I launch my tool. I'm under Win10x64, firefox v89, tool developped in python.
To do this, once firefox is closed, my tool go in my profile folder, access to cookies.sqlite and delete row associated to twitter.com
-> DELETE from moz_cookies WHERE host == '.twitter.com';
The database is saved, no more "twitter" in my cookies.sqlite file, and the tool ensures there is no cookies.sqlite-wal or cookies.sqlite-shm files left.
After that, when I open again twitter, I am no longer connected to my session, but I got an error which seems to be related to cookies (see screenshot).
Moreover, when I oppenup the firefox cookies manager, there is still twitter cookies in the list, but 0 cookies associated.
Where is my mistake ? Can you help me solve my problem ? Thanks
