Hi jscher2000, I want to thank you for your advice concerning a problem I had downloading Firefox to my Windows 10 laptop. I tried to follow your advice but was not successful. In the end, I googled "what if Firefox doesn't install". It took me to a website, https://www.makeuseof.com/fix-firefox-not-installing-windows , which took me to an article entitled "8 Fixes to Try if Firefox Won't Install on Windows". I tried #1 and #2 without success. #3, Temporarily Disable Your Antivirus Software, worked. Firefox is up and running. Feel free to share this with anyone who has a similar problem. No guarantee that it will work, but its worth a try. Again, thank you. drzee1946

Dear Community,

I am trying to download a large file. Am on a course, and the main tutor has given the group a file to download. Have tried downloading this 5 times, but get little luck. The file that I would want to download is 8.5GB, and the furthest I get is about 4GB.

I have 2 questions about this.

1) I seem to have a very 'in and out internet connection. It seems to go down at times for no reason, cutting off the download. Is there anything I could do about this? How could I troubleshoot this, please? 2) Does anybody know of any special tools that I can use to download in a more efficient manner, please? Perhaps an extension for Firefox might be able to do this, perhaps? Kind Regards to Anyone Answering this Query, Marek

New computer (Windows 11) shows 'Old Firefox Data'. Opened hidden files. Using File Explorer found Profile Folder & renamed it 'old'. Copied and pasted 'Old Firefox Data' as new profile. Firefox would not open. Had to remove etc and Firefox worked again. Thought this maybe the easiest way to get my Bookmarks back.

PS Presume Profile Folder does not contain Thunderbird Addresses?

Im on a Windows 10 22H2 Machine, and i am a pretty expirienced computer user.

Hi,

it seems to me that there are quite a few questions in the forum about the backgound update process. It has bugged me for a long time that my Firefox would every now and then just refuse to open a new page and force me to restart.

Only now did I learn that this changes when de-selecting the (recommended) "automatically install updates" option. The wording used does not make clear that automatically installing updates sometimes renders Firefox inoperable until a restart. I would love to see at least a "learn more" link there? I chose "automatically" but then was cursing every time Firefox refused to open a new page in the middle of my work. Then I failed to connect this to the choice I had made weeks or months back.

install and migration/Update Firefox to the latest release https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-release suggests that on Windows there is a way to have automatic updates without forcing a restart in the middle of the workflow? I assume this is through some little helper process, which perhaps is not popular on MacOS.

But: would it not be possible to at least point to these options from the message that says that Firefox needs to restart so people know they have a choice? Even better would be to have a "not now" button but I realize there might be technical reasons why we cannot have that.

Sometimes, firefox will download the same file twice (or more) when I still have it.

I do NOT want to turn off automatic downloading.

I am asking, how to make firefox check if the file already exists before downloading.

I understand that sometimes you willl download multiple files from a website, but, even though they are all called "image.jpg" they are all in fact different pictures.

So, I think the solution to this is, when downloading a file, firefox should check if the file already exists.

If it does exist, start the download for file(1) as usual, but ask the user

"A file with this name already exists, are you sure you want to download it again ?"

And the choices should be

Yes (download continues) yes, and do not ask again for this filename (download continues) No (download is interrupted and partial file is deleted)

I have been desperately trying to get off Chrome and onto Firefox and I simply cannot. Over the past month I have tried at least a dozen times to install Firefox and migrate, to absolutely no avail whatsoever. Any time I "launch" Firefox, I simply get a flicker of a black (or sometimes white) window, and then nothing. Firefox immediately disappears off the taskbar after a mere flicker. It doesn't even show up in task manager during this process. The browser absolutely refuses to launch, period. I have tried uninstalling Chrome. I have tried reinstalling Firefox. I have tried restarting my PC. I have tried updating Windows. I have tried booting Firefox in Safe Mode. I have tried running Firefox as Administrator. There is no error message. There is no bug report. There is no Windows alert. I have scanned the PC for malware at least five times, it's completely clean. I've tried "refreshing" Firefox in the uninstall menu. I've looked through every existing support article known to man at least five times over. I've tried checking my antivirus software, and I've tried checking for files that can reportedly keep the browser from running, none of which I have on the PC. I have tried simply launching the damn browser more times than I can count. The result never changes or deviates from Firefox simply flickering for a nanosecond before crashing. Please help me find a way to just launch the browser.

Good Evening, My company requested a factory restart and I compiled. I am working to restoring my old firefox bookmarks and preferably history/settings. Is there a way to find and restore this data? I am using the same firefox account as before the reset. Thank you.

Also, what are the best practices for backing up my data in the future to easily restore or transfer my settings and bookmarks in the future?

Only with Firefox (default) and Norton 360 My Norton page, the page does not recognize that the Password Manager is already set up and active. The Password Manager button erroneously shows "Set Up", and when pressed the surrounding oval turns blue and nothing else happens - forever! That button should say "Access Vault". Also, he Feature Setup incorrectly shows Password Manager as not being setup when it already is on, active, and functioning in other areas of Norton 360, and surprisingly through the Firefox browser extension NPM button. This apparent MY Norton syncing problem only happens with Firefox, not when using Edge or Chrome.
