Long time Firefox/Mozilla user. Installed/upgraded/migrated on Win, Android, Linux (various distros) over the years.

This might also be relevant to the Sync topic.

Built a new Win 10 system 11/21. Installed Firefox, logged in and Enabled Sync. Installed licensed Adobe photo editing software. No problems. Used for 2 weeks.

Spent 5 months in hospital.

Back home, used new PC for ~45 days; Win 10 went wiggy on me after an update - could not get to Settings menu ya da ya da. It went downhill from there. No identifiable hardware issues (tested memory and (.m2) boot drive, etc

Tried many fixes to Windows while trying to keep user data. Ended up reinstalling Win 10 (multiple times...). System working, but no bookmarks/passwords. Installed Firefox. Of course, it didn't work - understandibly.

Went to old PC, Firefox does not seem to give me the option to *see* my login password); looked up Firefox password (I hated to do it, but with ~500 userid/passwords, I started to let FF manage these a few years back). Found it. Went to new box and logged in. Password error. Digging deeper, it *appears* that the present password was set circa 2015 and the Firefox saved password was set circa 2021.

I've now been fussing with this a week. Searching, searching; trying pretty much everything I can think of. Nothing works.

Any path forward besides changing passwords on all of the involved (~20+) devices?

Now I need to try to recall where I put the recovery key ... (yes, I have since embarked on an extensive backup/restore point campaign which includes backing up backup system software).

I seems like every time I agree to an upgrade, the upgrade loads and then there are other problems to fix. So, I have stopped accepting upgrades. Is this common? Right now I am thinking I would like to reinstall the new Firefox but can I do that over the existing Firefox application or should I accept a recent upgrade. My current firefox application is giving me trouble so I need to do something safe. Thank you for any suggestions you have.

Can I check to see if I have a virus, etc.

Basically same as archived thread "download" (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1328091). I've tried all the suggestions; none worked. Might have same problem in Safari, but never with Chrome. Also, only started with Firefox 2 days ago. Refreshing page sometimes helps, usually doesn't. It's like trying to start a fire with a flint spark. It either "goes" or it doesn't. Very weird. Btw, when it goes, link turns purple. When it fails, link stays blue.

My settings are: Downloads : always ask Applications: for all PDF : always ask I also changed browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel to false.

Having gone through all this trouble I now am asked what to do with pdf file. If I opt for "open" however the file is still downloaded to the default folder.

What is the sense of giving options if these are just ignored??????????

I read that the change has been made to save time. This however costs me lots of time. I created a special folder Firefox JUNK that now is my default map. I have to clean this map regularly and when I have something that needs to go in my Downloads I have to choose that map manually.

Also: are you aware that most people have their download folder on the C partition and rarely look at it look at it?

MS Apps and Features lists 3 versions of Firefox v 105.0.3 (the version currently running) v 98.0.2 v 96.0.1 Do I really need 3 copies on my hard disk? Control Panel> Programs lists v 105.0.3 (the version currently running) v 98.0.2 (with a maintenance service as well) Meanwhile under Task manager, there are 5 apps of Firefox running, and 5 background processs. Is Firefox trying to shoulder out all other programs by monopolising the storage, Ram and CPU? How do I get rid of this bloatware?

One of our clients uses a web program that must have Firefox 91.12 ESR. Almost every Monday, we have a select few users who come in to Firefox updated to 102.

Steps we've taken: 1) Polices.json file to disable app updates. Firefox settings show updates disabled by administrator 2) Created a GPO to disable updates 3) Blocked the Mozilla update servers on their firewalls 4) Created registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox and set the DWORD value to 1 5) Each time we reinstall Firefox, we go to about:profiles and delete any extra profiles

With all of the above in place, they will still come in on Monday and see that their firefox has updated to version 102+
