I have an iMac version 10.7.5. I'm currently running Firefox Version 14 and I keep getting prompts to allow automatic updating (currently to version 17). However, when the prompt says "connecting to the update server," it never connects. So my questions are: a.) Is there a way to correct this problem so that I can automatically update? b.) If not, how do I update manually (I've found the Mozilla site's explanations incomplete/confusing.) Can I just download the latest version and it'll configure to what I already have, or do I need to delete my current version and reinstall completely? And what will happen to my settings (e.g. bookmarks) if I update on top of my current version, or update by completely replacing the current version?

I have a mandate to update Firefox across every machine in my enterprise within 48 hours of a new release. I have been doing this with intranet distribution tools (SCCM, etc.) but because of the frequency of Firefox updates this has become laborious.
I've been looking at the about:config settings in the "app.update" category (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences) and some of those seem promising. As a test, I set "app.update.silent" to TRUE and "app.update.interval" to 60 (seconds) on a legacy version of Firefox. I restarted the browser, let it sit for a few minutes then restarted it again expecting the latest update to apply, but nothing happened.
How can I script or automate via Firefox's internal settings the same update process that is triggered when users manually go to Help > About?

Several times trying to download what is called firefox 17, offered to us by you, we do not understand what that means? Our new operating system installed at the Boise Apple Store gives us up to and including the Snow Leopard. We are unable to accomplish your upgrade because it repeats the procedure instead and does a down load over and over, but will not install it following the requested easy procedure etc. Discouraged as nothing will let your firefox upgrade to our system. It even asked if we would like to keep the old system and install the new, this firefox 17, but it doesn't work. We liked this service , so what is the problem? Perhaps your program is no longer user friendly?

I'm SO sick and tired and completely fed up with Mozilla's BRAINDEAD BRAINDEAD BRAINDEAD update policy for Firefox, and I want to get out of this madness NOW -- so, is there an easy and straight-forward way to "downgrade" (well, kind of) Firefox 17 Desktop to 10.0.11 ESR, so that all settings and customizations and add-ons remain functional? Does simply installing the ESR package over the installed desktop release work? Did anybody try already?

I was just using my browser on a website and it started downloading, I couldn't find a way to stop it. I clicked my Help/About Firefox toolbar to see what version I am running, it says 16.01 so this has happened before, because it should be, old like Version 10. It also says "Restart to update". Under that it says, "You are currently on the release update channel". I went to about:config after searching for a solution and looked at a few app.update things they seem to be proper like false. First I want to know can I delete the update before I close and restart, or after I close and before I restart so it does not update ? I like my current version, well actually I HATE updates, they always mess my junk up. Let alone this wants to do it by itself even though It should be set not to. Second What do I need to change or look at to force it not to update or download or any of that ? My update history goes back to version 11, says new version 11 installed April 25th, 2012. (I have used FF for many years.) All the others, 12.0, 15.0.1, 16.0.1 and now 17.0 are security updates. Although I have created a few new profiles this year, BUT the first thing I do is tell it no updating and of course go through ALL the settings.
