Hi,

I lost all my bookmarks and history after a firefox update. I saw that other people had the same problem. Even though I followed their instructions, I don't seem to able to restore them. Does anybody know what I could do next, please?

I need help! Everyday I have at least 8 Chinese Hackers that show up on on the top in the list of websites visited on my Firefox. The entire page is in Chinese with Chinese pictures. Please see the attached images. I have no idea how long they have been there prior to being so bold to openly show themselves. I certainly have no idea of what they have uploaded or downloaded on my laptop. How can I get rid of them and what can i do to prevent them coming back? I know a lot of weird things have been going on in my computer that I have absolutely no reason nor explanation for. this has been going on for at least the last couple of years or more. I have had 3 computers to crash in a short period of time which I feel they have done. Spyware shows I have had a keylogger for a long time but all of the files it takes me to are protected and I have not been able to delete them. BillCowanjr@gmail.com

When it comes to add-ons, then I add three of four at once or the same purpose, I try them all out, decide if I want to keep any of them, and then remove the ones I see that do not serve my target. All normal.


I know that it requires permission in order to have an add-on show in Private Browsing, that's done.

Now I had 8 add-ons on the toolbar, I disabled two or three of them so I can try two new ones. I did not like the new ones, so I just enabled the ones I had disabled, which where previously showing in the toolbar, all of this in Private Browsing having the permission of showing them.


As I enabled the add-ons again, they are not showing anymore in the toolbar..!!

Okay, I removed them and re-added them..not showing. I also did: not allow in Private Mode, then re-allowed..not showing. I simply restarted the browser in both normal and Private Mode, and yet not showing.. I also restarted my pc, and retried all previous steps again

  • This mainly happened as I removed the extension from toolbar, then added it again.

Still also 90% of the time, just disable then enable again, and only a few are showing again. Either when disabled then re-enabled or when removed then re-added*


So, what to do ?

We are using Firefox 78 ESR configured by Group Policies. Nearly everything works as wanted but one thing:

When we start Firefox an update Message with the green update now arrow appears in the menu and as popup. It leads to the actual non-ESR Version of Firefox that is not wanted. When looking at the about Firefox page it shows that the used Version of Firefox is the current (ESR) one and doesn't need the update. I can't find the setting that stops Firefox ESR from checking the normal update Channel for the Update notifications.

Recently, I have been unable to delete Recent History either from the tool bar at the top of the screen or from Preferences. This is an older iMac for which Firefox is up-to-date. What is odd is that I am able to delete History when I use Safari as the active browser. I prefer using Firefox however, so what is wrong and how can I fix it?

Firefox had been telling me I needed to do an update for a couple of weeks. So like a fool, today of all days, I said yes. But I did look at what the update was going to do to make my final decision. It looked good so I said OK.

What it actually did was download the complete app and ask if I wanted to keep the old version as well. So I kept the older version (which had been up to date to this point) and opened the new one. It appeared to be totally "plain vanilla" with none of my bookmarks or windows, etc. I looked for my Bookmarks and all it had was some of my bookmarks from the Bookmarks Bar, none of my tons of years of important and properly organized bookmark folders.

I immediately quit, rebooted my computer, and went back to my older app - remember the one I did say to keep - and I got exactly the same behavior from it. I then completely trashed the "new" version and rebooted my computer again . . . then tried the older version . . . but that time things got worse. I did not even get the old Bookmarks Menu bar.

I then rebooted and went to my backup, brought back the copy from my last backup a month ago, and tried to run it. This time I got a message saying that opening the older version could destroy all my settings . . . but I did not care as I would rather go back a month ago than be where I am now! However, it would not allow me to open the older version because of the possibility of destroying . . . nothing!

HOW do I at least get back to my older version that would have probably 90% of my older Bookmarks/Folders and settings? I have that older copy and a full backup of my HD . . . but I do not know what, other than the Foxfire Application I need to look for and replace on my system. I assume there are some files stored in System folders that I need to replace, but I could not find them as I can't find anything in the Library or System directories that are identifiable as Firefox files.

All help appreciated . . . guess there will be no Cyber Monday shopping for me!

Yesterday I used Amazon. I have an account. Now today it says Server not found We can’t connect to the server at www.amazon.com. My internet is working. How to I add it to be a safe site? Seems like as soon as I do manage to get it let me open Amazon, then the next day it bans me from it.

If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try:

   Try again later.
   Check your network connection.
   If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web..

Metamask extension disappeared

I discovered that my metamask extension disappeared on its own from Firefox. It was not a lost pinned extension. The extension was not listed in the extensions any longer… (read more)

I discovered that my metamask extension disappeared on its own from Firefox. It was not a lost pinned extension. The extension was not listed in the extensions any longer.

I looked in the history and browser had not updated. Does anyone have an explanation? Did Firefox remove metamask for some reason?

Is there a way that I can view changes to the extensions somehow?

I'd like to easily be able to suspend Firefox from constantly asking for my Primary Password. There are often times when I don't need to enable Firefox Password from filling in passwords and don't need to login to my account at any particular website, but want to lookup information. For example, I may want to see if an item is available on Amazon and what the options are without having to login to my account. But as soon as I go to Amazon -- and for every, single page I access while there -- the "Enter Primary Password" box pops up and I can't continue without clicking "cancel". If I enter my Primary Password just once it stops asking. But I'd prefer to be able to easily tell Firefox to not enable Firefox Password and ask for my Primary Password until I want it enabled; perhaps by having a toggle button in the menu bar? I see there's what sort of looks like a method for this if you search for "Firefox keeps asking for Primary Password", but it state that it applies when using AVG and another security software, but I'm not using either of those. Maybe it continues to ask after entering it when using one of these software? I tried it anyway and it didn't make any difference. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

Hello... I'm using the latest version of Firefox and the latest version of Windows 10 ... I'm curious when I do the following with the browser, click History, select from Clear Recent History, have it set for Everything and have all the boxes checked, how is it when I visit a certain website it still show me log into there website? I thought if I delete the everything( cookies, cache ) this wouldn't be the case. Is there a way for the browser to be completely clean from all? thanks
