Irena

How to disable "Restore previous sessions" with GPO?

Hello Community,

I have a bunch of dumb terminals that connect to some Windows 10 virtual desktops. Upon login, Firefox is started automatically in kiosk mode via a customised shortcut placed in all users' Startup folder.

The problem is that if Firefox crashes, at the next logon it shows a blank dark violet screen and it never gets to load the home page.

I noticed that if I kill it from Task Manager and I re-launch it from the Start menu in normal mode (not Kiosk), then I am presented with the Restore Session tab - see attached screenshot.

Clicking any of the options (restore or start new), just to make Firefox open, then closing it gracefully from the top-right X makes the autostart in kiosk mode work as expected.

I speculate that Firefox just lacks the smarts to "known" that in kiosk mode it is restricted from displaying the dialog, thus no user input will arrive ever.

I am not interested in any previous sessions, I just want Firefox to ignore the previous crash and open the home page.

I saw that various sources suggest fiddling with the user profile via about:config. This is NOT an option because in VDI I do not save users' profiles, and it should apply to any and all users, regardless which virtual desktop they log into.

Is there a way to achieve this using Group Policy?

Thank you.

None of my installed Add-Ons will open. This occurred after running in "Refresh Mode" to correct a different problem.

The prior problem involved not opening bookmarks in a new tab even though the config:about entry was set correctly.

Is it possible there is a config:about entry that prevents any add-on from running?

I am looking for the widget.windows.window_occlusion_tracking.enabled preference setting on Linux. I was wondering if this setting was available on Linux? I have seen it on Windows. I was also wondering when this setting was introduced and if it is still active in the latest version of Firefox.

Thank you.

I'm not friend with CSS, because I don't know much about programming. So, please write me a correct CSS code in a comment.

The attached screenshot will explain my demands:

Hi, I used to be able to go to my email with Foxfire Mozilla with one click. Now I have to go to gmail, click on user name, insert my password twice, and then go to my phone to click on "yes, it is me" and sometimes before that enter a code, and then go to update securty all before I can read my email. I don't need any of this; I am the only user of my account and the only person who uses my computer. I am very unhappy with this. Also, just recently I now have lots of popups, most about music. It isn't even advertising, that I could understand, just annoying boxes of useless information that I have to dismiss. What is going on?,

I can't delete and replace Roaming>Mozilla>Firefox folder with a backup copy in Windows 11-- I get an other-program-using error.

I have done this many times before in Windows 10 and it always works beautifully. In Windows 11, however, I get an error about another program using a file in the folder. If I try to delete the folder I get a message about needing permissions from user (for clarity, the user account is an administrator). Now I am also very familiar with Windows permissions. I checked and administrators already have full privileges on the folder. Even if I explicitly add my particular user, nothing changes. I have done some other sleuthing but nothing helps identify the problem.

A bit of context – I just bought a new Dell, rather high-end and expensive laptop so I am really not amused at the fact that I can't just port in all of the stuff in the Firefox folder so I don't have to lose everything related to Firefox from my previous laptop. I do nightly Acronis backups so I have the folder and files but somehow Windows 11 is not letting me do my usual substitute backup copy of Firefox folder for new fresh-install Firefox folder.

Please — help — I had hoped that I could use the Acronis Universal Restore feature to move everything over from my old system to my new hardware — I've done that before. Unfortunately that wasn't an option given that the new machine comes with Windows 11.

I see other people have been having problems related to this folder with Windows 11 but I don't see any solution — again, please help!

Thanks for any help resolving this!

The removal of the download status bar at the bottom of the browser is a major UI failure and this feature needs to be returned.

I spent 30 minutes attempting to download/extract a settings file from an Addon until I noticed that Firefox was silently downloading it to my Downloads folder without any notification that it had started or completed.

The download bar was a known solution for this; The bar itself did not obscure the current webpage, provided immediate feedback on download initiation, progress, and completion. Provided quick access to open the file(s) or find options about the file(s), and the download bar could be dismissed quickly if the vertical page space was required/desired.

The hidden download tray is a horrible design idea, makes it difficult to see if your downloads have started successfully, when they have completed, and how to access them. Additionally, the introduction of 'hint' popups to support this feature actively obscure the webpage you're viewing, making them dramatically worse than the download bar, which left the page completely usable and only required a few pixels of height at the bottom.

This is a major design flaw.

I am an experienced Firefox Add-On user.

I have installed Firefox on a new build Windows (10) computer. Only 4 of my 8 installed Add-Ons will show on the Task Bar

This is not a problem on my two other Windows machines that share the same Mozilla account for Bookmarks & Passwords. (Other machines are also 4K displays).

I have uninstalled then reinstalled Firefox several times on the new machine, nothing seems to work.

I suspect there is a simple fix, but it eludes me.

Suggestions?

When I open a new tab in FF, a row of 8 boxes appears below the search bar where I can add shortcuts. I currently only use 5 of them, meaning there are 3 empty boxes left over. I don't want to have them show history, or recommended websites, or anything of the sort that might distract me; the shortcuts should only be those I actually intend to use, of which there are only 5. To my knowledge, the only easy way to add/remove shortcuts is to adjust the number of visible rows, but this only allows modifications based on multiples of the original 8. Like in Chrome, can I actually remove any excess shortcut boxes I don't want to use? I feel this is a very basic customization I'm sure Firefox should be able to accommodate.

I've included a screenshot of my FF new tab, where the three empty shortcut boxes I'm referring to can be seen. Thank you in advance for any assistance!
