I'm using Firefox 82 in Ubuntu 16.04 and am unable to create a desktop shortcut to URLs in the same way as Chrome will do. The drag and drop method described here does not work, and creating a *.desktop file does not work either. Any suggestions please?

can anyone tell me if this is really that easy? It should be. for instance, I ran a test by creating what you see in the attached image.

and it imports just fine, and in the correct place, however, the actual bookmarked URLs in the 2nd sublevel near the end do not show up. Can someone tell me why? I tried to add these tags in there:

ADD_DATE="1603960941" LAST_MODIFIED="1604177937"

however, that did nothing either. I even tried it by inserting all the garbled junk into the appropriate place, that FF inserts when exporting a BM file. no luck there either. oh, and by the way, I'm not a black hat. I do not buy corporate software. I do everything on my own. Any help here folks?

thanks.

I have hundreds of FireFox bookmarks organized in bookmarks folders and subfolders which makes sense most of the time.

However, with seldom used bookmarks, often I cannot remember where the bookmark itself is located, and, I need like to find the bookmark and note the folder where it resides then perhaps move the bookmark to a folder that makes more sense the next time it's needed.

While I can "search" bookmarks and use the bookmark, there is no apparent way to determine where the bookmark itself is located, so, I am forced to use "search" every time I need to use it. "Abandoning" a lost bookmark location and creating a duplicate does not seem right.

There MUST be a way to find where a bookmark is located. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance, Beverly Howard

if there is one persistent issue i keep facing on my favorite browser is that of bookmark multiplication

I still don't get why this keeps on happening - firefox has come such a long way yet this bookmark / issue persists.

i assume it has to do with profile dir after every upgrade it gets imported - it hard enough fixing it on desktop it's almost impossible doing it on android .

Bookmarks are what makes a browser personal not themes , to me at least , they're not a nuisance but they do become that when 3000+ of them triple aaahh...

yes you're still No.1 although your cousin Palemoon has left a howling impression

p.s - there's a question somewhere in here and it starts with "why"

Hello firefox,

I accidentally deleted an important bookmark-folder, and it took some time to find how to restore them. This may help others too:

I followed this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1031905, but is for Windows.

On Apple: cmd + shift + b

Select the 'import export' button,

Make backup: export to HTML

select 'restore'

Select the right date, and ready !

Cheers!

Used all the "relevant" guidance found on community forums to no avail.

For Weight Watchers and only Weight Watcher's Site, my log in viz user name and pass word information is not retained for each Firefox initiation. I have the latest version of Firefox. Previously cleared all caches, all cookies. Previously disabled all tracking and ad blockers. Can successfully accomplish this with Microsoft Edge.

Can use any other booked marked site reliably to enter without log in name or password.

Will switch browsers if this cannot be corrected.

Very fustrated.

Hei All,

I recently noticed that some of my bookmark folders have unfortunately been emptied.

I read related articles without finding any solution. So here are my questions:

- I am wondering if this might be due to a sync issue? I am mainly syncing between Windows 10 and iOS both on laptops. Once i turned on the sync on my smartphone, a Fairphone 3 with Android. But I turned off the sync and deleted all my browser data soon after. May this have caused a data loss?

- I've also recently tried out the multi-container add-on, but removed it again. Could this be the cause?

- Is there any limit in the amount of bookmarks one may save?

- And is it possible to restore ones bookmarks older than three weeks ago, from the cloud?

Thanks in advance for your help, still hoping to find those bookmarks back :)

Cheers, Tig

Firefox was running slow so it asked if I wanted to "restore." Little did I know that meant it would ask me to "sign up/sign in" to a firefox account and give me a blank slate. By blank slate I mean all of my bookmarks are gone including the ones I use across the toolbar to access information to WRITE MY BOOK. How can firefox not warn me of this and then make it so difficult to get it back? All these tech guys think they have everything figured out...Anyways, I read numerous articles and fallowed step by step and it simply won't allow me to "restore" the folder I found containing my bookmarks ( inside the OLD firefox Data folder that is now sitting on my desktop. Please help. It jsut says unable to process backup file. It also doesnt let me click on the folder. it says open the folder and reveals individual bookmarks which then can be opened but it still just says unable to process.

I had a computer crash, and I lost just about everything.

I had backups of my computer in a portable hard drive, and I am trying to recover my Bookmarks from that portable drive. I uploaded a file called "Old Firefox Data." The file shows in my computer as Type: File Folder. I can not find a way to open the files. I think they are JSON files. Researching the internet I am told that the JSON file can be opened with Notepad, but that does not work.
Please advise.

I created a 2nd profile for use at work. Initially my new profile came up with my personal bookmarks toolbar - which I use a lot. I assumed (bad idea) this was a copy and that I could edit it and modify it for work. It turned out that I was changing bookmarks toolbar for both profiles. I was hoping to use two different bookmarks toolbars one for each profile.

If my assumption was correct and I should be able to have independent profiles where did I go wrong?

How do I show the Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar at the top of the tab so it stays there all of the time? I have searched online and on Mozilla Firefox help and the instructions do not follow what I have on my iPad Pro 11. There is no place I can view or select or customize anything to do with the Bookmarks Toolbar or Menu. When a select the plus sign to open a new tab there is nothing but a search text box so I have no other choices. I want the toolbar and menu options to display all of the time. How do I make that happen? I have the latest updates for iPad Pro 11 and as far as I know for Firefox as well. Someone please help. I have been struggling with this same issue for days. I would attach a screen shot but I do not know how to do that using the iPad. Thank you. Marie.

Hi. I recently reinstalled Windows 10, and so, reinstalled Firefox. I had a HTML bookmark file which I had exported from my Firefox before. It is a 3MB file containing over 200 bookmarks organized into folders. When I import it, nothing happens! Only about 10 of the bookmarks (last added bookmarks I guess) are added to the bookmarks menu. So there is two major problems: 1. I want all of my bookmarks imported. 2. I want them in the "folders" the way I categorized them before, NOT just a few links scattered in the bookmarks menu! that's absolutely useless.

This will be a huge time-consuming task to add and organize 200 bookmarks again manually. If Firefox can't solve this, I will definitely migrate to Chrome.
