Why offer pinned tabs if they are going to get lost when you add Firefox to another device or sometimes it just randomly erases all the ones I had booked marked!
Is this something Firefox plans to fix?
If not seems like it is a bad feature to offer if it does not work!
Is there another option that works?

Several weeks ago, accidentally ruined a Win10 system installed on my newest PC built about 10 months ago. Had to reset Windows, so beforehand I copied the C:Windows drive onto a blank HDD and saved it, hoping I could rebuild Firefox and Thunderbird from the profile data on the saved HDD. I had to do this because I discovered that my backup software, which would have fixed everything, was not running correctly for the crashed machine. When I populated the new PC last fall I was able to migrate both Firefox and Thunderbird onto it. It was tedious and I didn't get it right the first couple of times, despite how simple it looks. But it worked eventually.
Tried to restore Thunderbird emails first, with no success. Finally discovered a software package (Thunderbird Migrator) which kinda restored the emails (95%) with help from their TS and another license so they could restore it to my machine lol. Discovered afterwards that the reset Windows installation was corrupt. Not sure if that affected the restore. Used DISM and SFC which now report system OK.
For Firefox, I found a profile I had saved when I first built the machine. I was able to restore that one. Figures since the profile was a mess I cleaned up on the new machine. Found seven other profiles and can't get any of them to work properly. One profile which should have hundreds of bookmarks only presented about a dozen separator lines and nothing else. It made me wonder what could be different. The profile that worked was created on a running machine. All the other profiles do nothing. I can't see why there should be a difference but I am running out of ideas.
Unless the crash corrupted the profiles, shouldn't they work? Found some local computer businesses that offer data recovery services. Do you have any advice on where to get help?
TIA
Dave Dace

I had to do a full on reinstall of windows early this morning. Once that was all done I re-downloaded everything I was using before. Once I had installed everything I hopped on FireFox and had started to browse through my bookmarks. I had all of them in one folder but not another in the bookmark sidebar you can open with ctrl+b. So I went to manage bookmarks and went on to import/backup. I had a backup from around 2:30am today and that's the one I had tried using because this was before the time I had started to reinstall windows. I must have looked at something wrong because I have now completely overwritten my backup.
I still have all logins and history from the past 6 months I just lost my bookmarks by overwriting them myself by mistake.
I've tried to go to the bookmark and restore it to a previous version but it doesn't appear to have one.
Just to clear up on the full reinstall I had to completely reformat my drives therefore I no longer had access to any Windows.old folders to go searching through.
I've included a few pictures to help show what I'm looking at whether or not they'll be helpful. I hope I'm not to SoL on this one but if I am it can't be helped.

When setting up a new, replacement PC, I only had an exported bookmarks.html that had *multiples* of my extensive collection of folders, subfolders, etc. Ugh. I found a very useful and effective app that did remove all those duplicated Folders and Bookmarks, however, it (or I) managed to put them completely out of order. That's the context of for this question-as-suggestion. I'm rebuilding my bookmarks.html now, using NotePad++ to edit and restore it to its previous state (Bookmarks Menu / folders / sub-folders / bookmarks). I check my work, as I continue to rebuild this bookmarks.html, by re-Importing it. The problem is that re-Importing the file merely*appends* it to the current contents, rather than replacing them. Here's the workaround I found to initialize my Firefox bookmarks configuration. In your Firefox Profiles folder (e.g.) C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\blahblah.default-release delete:
- places.sqlite and - content-prefs.sqlite
and also delete all contents in the /bookmarksbackup folder. By doing this, now when you "Import bookmarks from HTML...", it will contain only what was in your source file. I have the current version of Firefox as of this date, 115.0.2 (64-bit). I haven't noticed any problems using this workaround.

Greetings
Each time I drag a URL to a bookmark folder it ends up with a number ahead of the title that was automatically generated. I would love not having to edit those bookmarks each time. Is there a way to eliminate those numbers so when I drag the URL down to the folder it no longer has a number ahead of the title?
I am using a Macbook Pro laptop (2018 vintage) with the latest version of Firefox and MacOS.
By the way, what do those number do anyway. What is the benefit of having them?
Thanks for your help

Screen popped up suggesting to refresh firefox. Did so 2nd time it appeared. Now home page is radically different and bookmarks are no longer visible. There is a pulldown screen for bookmarks but some had been deleted ages ago and others used daily are no longer there. Did the "about:profile" process and opened a fold and it has a folder marked "bookmarks"
How do I recover all the bookmarks and have them displayed as previously (vertical listing on left side). Never had anything like this happen previously.

I had to reinstall Firefox and restore my bookmarks from an HTML file. After the restore, I found I could only copy a few of my Bookmarks Toolbar and Other Bookmark links to the corresponding files in the new installation. I was only able to move the Toolbar bookmarks to the proper file because the old Toolbar file appeared on my toolbar, and I could move the bookmarks one by one to the toolbar until all were entered.
I'm faced with a similar problem with the Other Bookmarks (OB) file. I only have five or six bookmarks in the file, and I need to add about a dozen more. I tried copying and pasting them into the new file in the Bookmarks Manager; the bookmarks copied but would not paste into the file. (I know they copied because I successfully pasted them to a LibreOffice document.) I tried opening one of the copied links; it said it was in the OB file, but it wasn't listed. Why can't I just bulk-copy the bookmarks into the file in the Bookmarks Manager? If that isn't possible

I have just updated to Firefox115.2.1 ESR. On the recommendation of Mozilla! The small icon next to my bookmarks are missing and the bookmark doesn't work. Only a few of the bookmarks have an icon. I have a large number of bookmarks, so I do not want to create them again. It would take me hours to do. I have tried to import bookmarks backup but nothing seems to happen.
I hope someone can give me a quick simple answer. Thanks Brian

Yesterday I started Firefox and got a question on Syncing; I think I answered "NO". All of a sudden Firefox disappeared, and I got "Bing-Firefox" browser. All my bookmarks were gone, and all the browser information presented me with "Microsoft" stuff. The Firefox icon is still on my desktop, but when I choose it the only thing I get is "Bing Shopping", "One Drive", etc. I don't want anything to do with Microsoft, or "Bing"; what happened? How do I get back to pure Mozilla Firefox?
Thank you, Peter

So I had a crazy number of bookmarks, many duplicates. I did a major cleanup of dupes. I now see about 20 "other Bookmarks" folders in my MENU. I tried consolidating them, moving their order in the list, deleting, etc. The act like a ghost in the machine.
Lots of strange behavior: If I drag to reposition, it makes a duplicate, they multiply on their own....
I use my sessions and wonder if it somehow related. I don't want an others bookmarks showing up in my list, I'm grouping via folders according to what i want to see, and other bookmarks ain't it. Especially unruly multiples of such. All I have found was how to hide on the bookmarks toolbar, which I do not like, nor use.
Thank You Kevin
