Twice in a year, maybe in 2, Firefox updates have completely hosed my bookmarks. I don't always remember to save them when updates come through. This browser updates more than any other one I use. I'm an elder who has to juggle tons of internet details. I can't tell what folder they came from, but there are at least 150 bookmarks skewing the view of my folders.

I tried to delete all of them, and if I reopen it, all the ones I deleted are back in the way. Why won't they go away? What is getting confused here? One thing is that I'm afraid Firefox won't reopen all the tabs & windows I have open, so I kill it using my Task Manager, instead of just closing Firefox windows. Why? Because it has lost one of my windows before, with multiple tabs open and I couldn't find any of them.

Yes, I'm the one who maintains 3 separate Firefox windows with multiple tabs open. Please do not tell me not to do that, when I've been doing this for years & years. This thing's limitations shouldn't become mine. Everybody uses products differently; doesn't mean you get to judge when I'm not using it the way you do.

I hate that this happens, because I'm not expecting Firefox to make a mess and don't know where they're pulling all these bookmarks from. Nothing is missing from my folders. It's like they're duplicated and show up when I click 'Bookmarks'. They keep reappearing under the 'Bookmarks Menu' with Manage Bookmarks, but obviously not coming from there or they wouldn't reappear when I delete them.

Any ideas what's going on?

Again, don't tell me how to use my computer. I've been doing this since PC's were invented. If you know what's happening, great. If not, mind your manners & don't let your ego take pot-shots. Thank you.

This isnt about tabs, but only thing close to my problem in drop down.

My problem is the google calender headings at the top of the calender are now unreadable when I use Firefox browser. It happened after last update. The letters are now cramed in and on top of each other for buttons such as month forward or back or even titile of month.

Any suggestions or knowledge is great.

Firefox deleted a bunch of my stuff- customization, bookmarks, settings, add ons and most importantly history and cookies, annihilating my browser game save which I had for over a year.

It did so without my knowledge or permission, and I want to know why that happened, and why can't I recover the most important stuff- my history and save from the game.

I copy and pasted all the files inside "old firefox data" folder and it brought back my bookmarks and add ons, but it did not recover my settings and history.

Putting everything back to how it should be will take me ages, and I won't be able to find some important websites I usually would access by history.

So, can someone tell me, why firefox just did that without my permission or even knowledge? And if there is a way to bring my stuff back, because I'm really not in the mood of setting up the whole browser after I've already done so when I decided to switch to it.

Thank you for any help.

Some background first: To start with, I don't do clouds or file sharing, and almost no social media. I used to do bimonthly backups (to any of three external hard drives) until my wife died four years ago. Never thought about it again until very late December. Decided I'd do it on January 1. Hard drive crashed on December 29, on an older laptop running Windows 10. Paid an obscene amount of money for the (successful) data recovery effort, and have it all on an external hard drive. That older laptop had other (physical) problems as well, so I bought a new one running Windows 11 while the data recovery effort was going on. I've been using Firefox exclusively for 20 years, I imagine, and I've got hundreds of bookmarks. (I tend to do a lot of research.)

Current issue: When I installed Firefox on the new laptop, it wanted to import bookmarks, but of course, they weren't available. Got the recovery drive back. Researched... located the folders that Mozilla says contains the bookmarks. Stopped Firefox. ...AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles Renamed the folders therein. Copied the similarly named folders from the recovery drive to this location. (Names and/or extensions were similar, but not exact.) Fired up Firefox. Deep sigh. It didn't work. Stopped Firefox again. Renamed the file extensions. Fired up Firefox again. Back up and running again, your witness, I'm writing this.

So, it's not a matter of simple file substitution. Is there another way to recover bookmarks from a file?

Hello,

I have recently been having difficulties with my Firefox Bookmark bar at the top of the screen.

The addresses change and I cannot use them. They look different. I just updated them a day ago and they've already gone back to this look and don't work anymore.

Please see screenshot.

Thank you.

  1. 1 When I open firefox there is a bookmarks toolbar displayed at the top.
  1. 2 When I go Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > click Bookmarks Toolbar > the bookmarks don't match what I see in the browser in #1 above.

How do I fix this?

I uploaded a screen shot of the browser toolbar and the application bookmarks toolbar.

Do you see that they are not the same in my attached image?

The browser tool bar has PurpC after FamilyS. Application (in manage book marks) the bookmarks toolbar has LFTWeb after FamilyS. I want the browser to match what is in the application Bookmark Toolbar.

I have turned sync off, that caused the issue in the first place. I had a recent saved bookmark file, that matches what is in the application, it is not updating the toolbar in the browser.

Thanks, Stacey

Hi folks. Currently I am using Firefox Sync to sync my bookmarks between an andriod, Linux laptop and Linux desktop. At times I have difficulty relocating a bookmark to a given position on my desktop or laptop, but my biggest problem centers around bookmarks that I relocate in a different place in the "Unsorted" folder or to a different folder not always appearing in the new position on the other machines. In an attempt to troubleshoot this further I went to my Linux desktop, signed out of FF sync, backed up my 2000+ bookmarks, exported my bookmarks (both to local directories), exited firefox and then renamed the places.sqlite. When I then attempted to restore from json file and when I input bookmarks from the html file I saw all my bookmark directories recreated but all my files were dumped into the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder. I finally had to put the places.sqlite file back in place in order to continue working, however, my original problems remains. When I attempt to verify the places database I get the following, but clearly something is out of whack. How best can I create a cleaner bookmarks database?
