Hi,

after a while of inactivity (Maybe 2-5 Minutes or so?) when using Firefox I am not able to load any webpages anymore. It does not matter if I reload a page or try to open a new one. The loading wheel just keeps spinning infinitely. I then have to close all Firefox windows and reopen Firefox. It then shows a popup where it says something about Firefox still running and asks if I want to close it. I then close it and now I am able to reopen Firefox and pages load fine again.

Is there any solution to this issue? I tried to google the issue but could not find much help.

Every few weeks at random I have the same problem: Any action I take on tabs (e.g. close tab, open new one), as well as any typing I perform, only creates the normal effect after around 10s of delay. I can type whole sentences and nothing happens until 10s later the whole sentence starts appearing as if I had just typed it. The hamburger menu and about dialog where not impacted from this delay.

The CPU and memory load shows no signs of being a bottleneck and nothing performance hungry is happening in the rest of the system.

This happened around 2min after startup, after 5h of work, or anywhere in-between.

Workaround is a browser restart, but it is quite annoying if this occurs while I'm filling in a form and I have to start over.

Ubuntu 24.04 - snap package Once the issue occurred, I disabled all extensions (without restart), but the issue continued.

Whether I am on Yahoo or Facebook Firefox occasionally just stops working for a couple minutes.. Then after a while it starts working again. The stoppages seem random as they don't occur regularly. I use Malwarebytes premium to protect my computer and run scan regularly so there are no viruses etc. in my machine. Any ideas why Firefox just stops?

When I close the browser, recently it is leaving a lot of background processes running. As a foreground application, when I close the browser, I want it ***closed***. That is, no remaining processes/services. File|Exit should mean exactly that.

@Mozilla, please fix this, or add a very clear/obvious setting in Tools|Settings for "Close all browser processes/threads" on exit. I shouldn't need to get into about:config to start finding things to disable.

This has been interfering with backups because of files remaining open/locked even after the browser is closed.

I am running the latest update for Firefox (143.0 (64 BIT) on a Windows 10 Dell laptop. Since the update on August 28th (prior update), my browser has been extremely slow, even with only one tab open. Task manager shows 95% memory usage after 15 minutes of browsing, and I have to end task on Firefox, then reopen the browser. I have run my Webroot antivirus and Malware Bytes, and my laptop is coming up clean.

I am not fond of Microsoft Edge, but I wanted to see how it performed. I have no issues with speed, so I can only guess that this is a Firefox issue.

Are there any known issues with the August 28th update?

Hi,

I recently updated Firefox to the latest version on Windows 11, and since then the browser keeps freezing randomly while browsing. Sometimes it becomes unresponsive when multiple tabs are open, and I have to force close it.

For example, yesterday I was checking a food site with the Dunkin Donuts Menu, and the browser completely froze when I tried switching between tabs. I already tried clearing cache, disabling extensions, and even refreshing Firefox, but the issue still comes back.

Has anyone else experienced this problem after the recent update? Any guidance on what else I can try would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

All of a sudden this evening my title bar is shimmying left to right. If I try to pull down the Bookmarks/History/Downloads box it shimmies, too. I have no idea what caused this to happen and no idea how to fix it. I looked in the Task Manager but I'm not sure anything odd is in there. I ran a scan with McAfee but it didn't pick up anything. I am hoping someone out there can help me with this. I got rid of cache and history. Maybe it's a cookie issue and I should get rid of all of those, too?

Current situation: I start Firefox and it starts maximized. When I move the mouse cursor to the lower edge of the screen, the taskbar should unhide but it remains hidden. To correct for this by dragging the window so it resizes (floating window) and then maximaze by pressing the maximize button on top right. Now the task bar unhides as expected.

If I drag the window so it resizes (floating window) and then maximaze by dragging it to the top edge of screen, then the taskbar again wont unhide.

I must do this every time I open a new Firefox window.

I can replicate this whenever I want.

The cursor changes from the Hand, Caret back to a normal cursor when hovering. Also sometimes the cursor disappears entirely. Moving the mouse temporarily makes it visible again. The latter is especially annoying and it occurs on most websites including even the Firefox Add-on site. Refreshing the Which suggests it is not related add-ons (at least most of them anyway).

I have a different browser with the same user.js (BetterFox) and same chrome.css. However, I was not able to replicate it there. Maybe I need to have open many dozens of tabs. No issues with my browser otherwise, performance or memory. Anybody else have this issue or can help troubleshoot and find the cause?

I often keep firefox running for several days at a time, usually with 2 tabs open. This current tab generates 15 processes in Windows Task Manager, and uses 1.2MB memory.

Opening two more tabs (news sites) took it up to 57 processes (3.9MB, or 88% of memory)

The problem is that over time, even when I close unused tabs, many of the extra processes don't stop running.

What can I do about that? Is there a setting I need to adjust for this?

Adding extra memory is not an option on this machine.

Thanks.

Hello,

On Wednesday Windows updated in their monthly update. This update resulted in my Firefox browser losing all many capabilities in the top bar. I see the buttons for copy, download and star but can't select them. The download button works, the bookmark doesn't, the account button doesn't, the $ button doesn't, the extension button doesn't, the more features button doesn't, and the menu button doesn't.

Is this something you are aware of.... it worked previous to the download and that's the only change. I have other browsers on my computer (Explorer - No changes, Chrome - No changes) only issues with Firefox. I utilize your browser 98% of the time and would like to get this resolved.

Thanks

Was using Windows 10 Pro with Firefox. Had no issues. On 8/23 I upgraded to Windows 11 Pro and the issue started. Under Windows 10 , clearing the cache and cookies , both from within Firefox and using CCleaner went quickly. After upgrading to Windows 11 , both are slow as molasses , not measured in seconds , but minutes (often 10 or more). Uninstalling and reinstalling made no difference. CHKDSK has been run - no issues found.

Any clues?

There are three issues with YouTube: 1. Slow website performance - for example, clicking on a video to pause/start it takes a few seconds to complete. Writing comments - after pressing a key, a second passes before the letter appears. Refreshing the page is also delayed. 2. Very often, the video starts at the lowest resolution, despite being connected to a 1Gb fiber optic cable. 3. Extremely high memory usage compared to Chrome.
