If I have a video running in Youtube and I decide to put the computer to sleep the following happens when I revive the session:

Firefox - the video will be running but without sound. Stopping and starting the video makes no difference - the only way to get sound is to reload the page which means the video goes back to the start.

MS Edge by contrast (under exactly the same circumstances) presents a page where the video has stopped but when I click on "play" the video resumes complete with sound. To me this makes much more sense but I do not want to use Edge!

I wonder if there is a setting I could adjust in Firefox to address this issue.

Thanks.

Financial Websites Don't Load Properly In Firefox

I've been using Firefox for almost two decades and have been in an IT field for longer. Part of my job was web design/development/server management. So, I've long supported the Firefox browser and had to code for websites to work properly in it. I also know that the industry has changed greatly in those 20 years and browsers focus a lot on security. I think this is a great thing considering the risks that are out there now. Unfortunately, a lot of websites are no longer coding for different browsers because Firefox is about the only major browser not using the Chromium web engine. This change has unfortunately cost Mozilla a large portion of the market when it comes to users using Firefox. I personally would like to see Firefox continue to thrive because I believe it to be the best browser out there. However, without market competition, web developers appear to no longer care about whether a website works in multiple browsers since Chromium is dominate in most major browsers. I don't want Firefox to go down this same path or die out completely since it offers the best experience, security, and data privacy on the market. Thank you for this!

Now, with all that said here is my issue. Either websites aren't taking Firefox into account when they are developed anymore or changes to Firefox are causing websites to no longer work. I've specifically been having these issues for at least three months on financial websites, i.e. banks, credit card companies, mortgage lenders, and even some utility companies. I've tried everything I can think of to fix the issue on my end including the following.

1. Cleared browser history and cache 2. Disabled add-ons 3. Started Firefox in safe-mode 4. Changed Security settings from Strict to Basic 5. Disabled Hardware Acceleration in Firefox 6. Tried these websites in Private Browsing mode, this helped at least one website somewhat. 7. Refreshed Firefox

Over the last three months I've tried these, and probably other solutions I've forgotten, multiple times and I'm tired of having to fix what some of these solutions break. I keep Firefox and add-ons up-to-date. I only have three basic add-ons installed. So, the question is, how do I resolve this issue or do I need to stop using Firefox, which I don't want to do. However, if I can't handle these types of transactions online via Firefox, I'll have to switch. Some of these sites take me between 1-2 hours to navigate through the dysfunction just to complete simple banking or paying bills.

I'm sorry I'm not including specific websites, but for security reasons I'd rather not list what financial institutions I use. I can tell you one utility company is AT&T's customer portal website. If someone from Mozilla wants to contact me directly, feel free to contact me via LinkedIn and I'll give you more specifics. You'll find a link to my LinkedIn profile on my website. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide on this issue.

While searching how to add multiple instances of Firefox I realized that there was a bug awhile ago where essentially every tab got opened up in the volume mixer. So I can't search for what I wanted because there were only threads about the bug.

I was wondering if there's anyway I can have multiple instances of Firefox in the windows volume mixer? If I open up two separate Firefox browsers it still merges them together in the mixer. I would like to see two different Firefox instances in the mixer is this possible?

I've observed that leaving certain websites open seems to consume an ever-increasing amount of memory in Firefox over time. The large resource usage eventually causes my system to become unusably slow.

For example, I was keeping an eye on Firefox's internal task manager while reading this Encyclopaedia Britannica article. Initially, the page only used about 100 MBs of memory, but as I left the page open longer (~20 minutes) and scrolled down to load more content, it eventually grew to greater than 3 GBs. Since I only have 8 GBs of RAM available on my computer, this causes Firefox (and the computer itself) to become slow and unresponsive until I close the offending tab or Firefox altogether.

Encyclopaedia Britannica isn't the sole website I've observed this sort of high memory usage issue with, but I seem to be able to replicate the issue consistently with some longer articles. Could anyone confirm if they can replicate this behavior? I'm using a relatively new install of Windows 10 and Firefox (with no add-ons installed), but I'd much appreciate it if someone could confirm this isn't something specific to my computer.

I've attached an image of the Windows task manager showing the high RAM usage. I've also attached an image of Firefox's task manager after closing the tab using so much memory to demonstrate that I only have a couple other tabs open, and they are not resource intensive.

Assuming this is an issue with the website, would an AdBlocker or NoScript help to mitigate the resource usage?

Hello,

in our company we use firefox esr 78.2 and have blocked the installation of add-ons with our gpo-settings. But we need the openh264-codec-plugin to work (for video conferencing). Is there a chance to only allow / whitelist the openh264-plugin, so firefox can complete this codec-installation ?

We need something like the chrome-policy ExtensionInstallWhitelist: https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#ExtensionInstallWhitelist

thanks in advance and greetings from germany

Prior to the update, I was able to access the camera just fine. Now I have to use Chrome or IE to be able to view camera web interface.

I am not sure what the Mozilla folks changed, but it really stinks to not be able to use FFox with my security cameras.
