I seem to be encountering various problems since the update to 73, the main one is the profile folder, I dislike the default location so have previously just put my preferred location in appdata\roaming\mozila\profiles.ini but 73 regularly ignores this and puts a basic profile in the default location and alters profile.ini. Using the profile manager does not get any better results. I am also having problems with the home page, I have set a custom page but 73 often resets this to a blank page or sometimes the default home page. I have had to resort to a 'portable' version as 73 constantly resetting things was getting so annoying but the portable does not work well as a default browser.

Hi,

I've been experiencing a strange problem with Firefox.

If I click a link from an external app (e.g Outlook), it begins loading in Firefox but will then reset to my homepage which is Google. I am not doing anything to trigger this reset (holding any keys, etc) I am simply just clicking the link, which launches Firefox and resets from loading the link to my homepage. It's very frustrating.

Looks like Firefox has a default directory for file selection dialogues and automatically creates the directory when the directory does not exist.

If I can specify a different default directory, this problem will be solved.

I also noticed that I cannot remove "$HOME/Desktop" item in the side bar in file selection dialogue. This is also disturbing. Is there a way to remove it?

I'm on the latest version of Firefox (77.0.1 64 bit) and an up to date Windows 10 installation on an HP Pavilion 15 laptop.

Trying to upload photos and videos via WhatsApp and Facebook causes Firefox to hang (not responding) when choosing files to upload. I get the "working on it" message but nothing else. Task Manager shows the storage usage increasing and I closed the task when it got to 900+ MB. Tried several times yesterday and today with the same result after ensuring all Windows software was up to date.

Anybody got the same issue? Any clues please?

Scenario: I have defined two different virtual desktops, using Windows 10's ability to create new desktops.[1] As part of this, I have two different Firefox windows. One of them is located on Desktop A, and the second is on Desktop B.

When I click a link in an external program -- for example, Outlook, or Excel -- it shell executes that link. Firefox is set as my default browser, and so it handles the link. The problem is that when I click a link while looking at Desktop A, the link gets opened by the Firefox window on Desktop B and switches my view there, which takes me away from what I'm working on and forces me to move that tab back to Desktop A manually.

Furthermore, this is not consistent behavior. Sometimes clicking a link will cause Firefox to open a new tab in a window in the same desktop I was looking at when I clicked it. Other times it switches to the other desktop. I have not been able to figure out what determines which Firefox window gets the link.

All I really want is for links to open in the Firefox window that's already open in the same desktop as where I clicked the link. Is there some way to make that happen? I'm not sure if this a problem with Firefox or with how Windows handles shell-executing links. It could be either.

[1] This not the same as a virtual machine. For details, see this overview: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-use-multiple-desktops-in-windows-10/

Hi,

I only get gifs to play if I hover the mouse over them. They take a very long time to load, and if I move my mouse off they stop trying to play. I'd like them to just automatically play and not have to baby every single gif I come across.

This problem has been going on for serveral months now, and I've tried deleting cookies, clearning my cash, removing and installing firefox, starting in safe mode, making sure addons were all turned off....

I have autoplay in preferences turned on, so I'm at a loss here on how to fix this.

Dear all,

I would like to know whether there is any way to load (some/any) sidebar content (e.g., for the sidebar created by the "Notes for Firefox" extension) as a "large version" into the main browser window?

I was already able to extend the maximum size of the sidebar on one hand and on the other hand I even extracted the files of the "Notes by Firefox" extension whose sidebar I would like to have open in the main browser window. Unfortunately, just loading the "sidebar/index.html" (as this is the "default_panel" of the "sidebar_action" mentioned inside the "manifest.json" file of the "Notes by Firefox" extension) did not work as some (a lot?) of variables are not defined...

So, is there any sort of way to get some sidebar being displayed in the common browser content window? If so, please advice how to do it. Thank you!

Best regards, Patrick

I don't know why, but when I try to open a file in firefox 77.0.1(64-bit) It's not opening even though I navigate to file -> Open File, it's also not working, even though I press ctrl+o it's also not working. Am using Debian 10.

Some background, Debian default is Firefox ESR which works flawlessly, but it's missing my favorite Firefox feature Screenshot, i take a lot of screenshot in a typical day, of the web stuff am doing. So what I did is to install another Firefox using snap, and it has it(screenshot), but this snap Firefox's CTRL+0 does not work. Even the File -> Open File does not work.

I am using Firefox in Ubuntu 18.04 and Title bar disappears randomly. Also while Title bar is missing Firefox window never comes to top if under another window. Customize > Title Bar Checkbox == ON.

I was trying to use F11 with no success.

Workarounds that works:

   - Grab one of tabs and move outside of existing window (title bar restored), then other tabs moved to such window are OK.
   - Go to Customize > Title Bar checkbox (is ON) / deactivate and activate again. After "checkbox restart" Title Bar is restored back.

All SW is up to date. Any clue? Any hints please?

Thanks!

Gmail has, everytime, for 3 straight months, constantly and semi-quickly, signs me out of every gmail account with and without presenting error code #2005. This issue can’t be caused by Google alone, because every Gmail account works perfectly on my roommate’s computer, on my smart phone and on my computer if I use Internet Explorer (which I haven't used for years). Yahoo mail, does interestingly, as will all other non-Gmail accounts, work flawlessly with Firefox. Perhaps the flaw is solely with Firefox when it handshakes with gmail's security protocol, because error code #2005 is what always pops up. Another error message says that Hangouts has not been signed in. And while I do have 2 phone numbers for two Gmail accounts, Gmail also signs me out of 4 other accounts that have no phone numbers.

Here's the list of troubleshooting steps attempted recently. If at all possible, I'd like to avoid resetting Firefox, unless I can see from your provision of the entire list of settings, what will be lost. Thank you, for your expert advice.

1. UPDATED BROWSER – DIDN’T WORK 2. REMOVED 25 VIRUSES – DIDN’T WORK 3. DISABLED ALL RECENTLY ADDED ADD-ONS – DIDN’T WORK 4. I’VE BEEN CLEARING HISTORY, COOKIES AND CACHE USING FIREFOX AND CC CLEANER DAILY AND FOR YEARS – DIDN’T WORK 5. USED CC CLEANER TO CLEAN UP REGISTRY – (EVERY COUPLE WEEKS FOR YEARS) – DIDN’T WORK 6. I REMOVED OVER 22 WINDOWS AND 1000 TABS – DIDN’T WORK 7. FIREFOX SETTINGS WAS JUST ALTERED TO CLOSE WITH CACHE AND COOKIES CLEANED OUT 8. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD WINDOWS SECURITY TURNED OFF – SO THAT’S NOT IT 9. I SIGNED INTO HANGOUTS FOR EACH OF 2 ACCOUNTS- STILL FAILS 10. It’s not the Windows software because Internet Explorer (which I hate using) works perfectly for days on end even after numerous sleep modes. 11. i Had this problem previously, but it mysteriously went away without troubleshooting anything that I can remember.

Dear Mozilla Supporters,

I tried many different Firefox config combinations with force_acceleration, as well as X11 with UXA, without success. I tested OpenGL support in native X11 with glxinfo and glxdemo, and hardware accelleration does work.

I believe this worked in the past without issues, I have been using the same machine on older Lubuntu and recently decided to upgrade to the latest Debian eqivalent.

Any ideas why Firefox does not see and use the OpenGL accelleration available in X11?

New issue began today on Surface Pro 3. When in tablet mode with no keyboard attached, and changing focus to an input field - the virtual keyboard is initialized and immediately closes and does not restore the browser window to full screen. This is persistent behavior when I change focus to non-input areas and back to an input control.

This only happens in FF. Just applied Win 10 updates. Just restarted machine several times. Reviewed osk settings as per similar post and all are correct. Uninstalled and re-installed FF. Nothing evident in event viewer.

Anyone else encountering this?

I recently bought a graphic tablet (https://www.trust.com/en/product/21794-panora-widescreen-graphic-tablet), and it works flawlessly outside of firefox. However, when holding BigBlueButton lectuers, I need to use it within firefox, which doesn't seem to work. At first I thought it was an issue with BigBlueButton, but now I tried other websites (limnu, cocreate, etc.), and they all have the same problem:

Whenever I move the pen on my graphic tablet, only the first and last 'points' are recognized. Is there a way to increase firefox's refresh rate for mouse clicks? Or is there any other solution?

I'm using firefox 68.9.0esr, 64-bit on windows 10.
