How do I add short cuts to home screen? ie. Vanguard, Wells Fargo, shopping sites, etc. I haven't used Firefox for yeas and I'm lost. (I'm 85 and partly blind)

The icons/shortcuts on my homepage are getting moved around, added to, or deleted despite my having pinned all of the shortcuts that I want. All 4 rows of shortcuts have been filled with my pinned ones. Now Firefox is deleting/moving the last 2 on the lower right and inserting 2 new and irrelevant ones in positions 2 and 3 of the top row. This is annoying and frustrating. Thanks for any help.

So at one point Firefox asked me if I wanted to have Gmail on my desktop toolbar so I could open it without opening Firefox. Stupidly, I said, "Sure, sounds nice." Later, I realized I do not like this option because now when I open Firefox, it cannot open Gmail as the first tab that opens which is my preference. Now I open Firefox, and instead of opening my Gmail as the first thing I see, I only get to see the Gmail logo and loading screen which never fills, which never opens Gmail. And I want Firefox to open straight up into my Gmail page, I don't want to watch it try and fail. So I removed the desktop toolbar icon that Firefox made when it offered me. But that didn't fix anything. Still, now if I open Firefox, I just get Gmail loading bar, never filling, never showing me my nice page. Help!!

i have tried disabling hardware acceleration and it doesnt seem to help.

On my Firefox homepage I had four rows of bookmark shortcuts. I recently decided to switch some of them out but I made a mistake and chose Dismiss. Now my homepage only has three rows of shortcuts even though in the options it still says four and there doesn't seem to be a way to re-add them or bring them back. I have changed homepage in the settings section, but, on first starting up firefox i get the Google homepage as my initial screen. I really dont want this, so i have checked everything, changed homepage url, removed google search option, and even checked the shortcut and .exe properties, and none of them point to google, yet it still persists. Is there any way to stop this happening please.
Further to this, if i open a new tab i get the firefox page, and when i click home it opens my saved homepage url.
