This is the message I get when I try to access my Bookmarks: "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." I have already tried to find out from Microsoft if their latest reinstallation of Office Professional could have caused the problem. They say they have nothing to do with Firefox. How can I get my Bookmarks and History back?

I restarted my computer, but my tabs did not reappear. I restarted, but I have lost all my bookmarks, and I cannot add bookmarks. All Mozilla recommendations have failed.

do know computers very well, have used firefox for all my web browsing, firefox kept crashing according to screen so it opened saved apparent older version and I lost all my bookmarks and passwords, please help

Following a restart procedure on Windows 10 today, all my saved Firefox Passwords have now gone! (Firefox 144.0.2 (64-bit))

Can I recover them?

After most recent update all my bookmarks and passwords disappeared and I cannot seem to recover them. This is extremely frustrating. Has anyone else had this happen? I tried using the recovery process but it did not work.

Mozilla, in their infinite wisdom, sent me a note about something new in firefox, by displaying it in a new instance of Firefox.

It wasn’t until I closed my normal session, that I realised a new instance of firefox was also running, and shut it down on.

In shutting the new instance down after my usual session, it overwrote all my normal tab settings🤬

Q1. Are my normal tab settings recoverable? Q2. Why did Mozilla think it a good idea to open a new instance of Firefox to send me information, rather than simply open a new tab.

In Firefox my previously working Bookmark folders are empty, everything I previously bookmarked is gone, and now firefox will not let me create any bookmarks to replace them .

I have been using old-style profiles for a long time, but they didn't work so well for me. The new profiles system was great - specifically that each one was a FF instance that could be opened and quit independently of any others (and most importantly had a different icon). I setup 5 or 6.

But i quit all my FFs due to memory issues. Then after restarting a FF, it was an instance from the old profiles system and there was no profiles item in main menu (under three horiz lines top-right).

Going to about:profiles didn't show them (as expected).

I started from command-line to launch FF with Profile Manager and after selecting a profile that way, then there now a Profiles menu item. However it empty.

I had a look and there is a ` ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profile Groups` that contains a number of sqlite files and each has a -shm and -wal file also. I looked in the profiles table for each of these. 1 lists all the new profiles I created and one points to default old-style Profile instance that opens (ie. Profiles/Main-Firefox-Window).

about:config - browser.profiles.enabled is true

I also noticed a browser.profiles.forceEnableRefresh but it appears to be undocumented.

My question: HOW can I restore my new profiles? I put some work into icons etc.. and of course their history, so i don't want to have to recreate them.

I have the files of my original firefox profile, i just need someone help me figure out if i can recover my passwords from here, i put all the files back into a new profile but it just gives me my old bookmarks, nothign else.

I did not have an account, (i made it js now to ask the question) but every time i opened firefox everything was saved, my search history, pinned pages, PASSWORDS, (which are all gone and its the worst thing in this situation) accounts on multiple websites, and this type things, EVEN when there were some updates to the app. And the latest profile update, yes i was scared for a second that itll all be gone when i made the new profile but i saw theres another profile with all my things saved. But now, i open the app, and its like i just installed firefox. There are some business tings to set up, they asked me if i want to create a new account, some things i just skipped, then i look and its a whole fresh app. No passwords, no extensions i had, no theme i set up, no saved search history, NOTHING. Now is this normal, and my fault because i didnt have an account? Because im pretty sure that shouldnt happen and i really need all those things. But if its my fault then i get it, although im still a bit upset but if theres any way to recover, or prevent this from happening next time, please let me know.

I updated Firefox to 145.0 this morning, and after Firefox had restarted, it had lost all bookmarks and the bookmarks toolbar. I have spent all day following links to correct the problem and got nowhere. I have restarted Windows and Firefox countless times - no change. I've even tried reinstalling Firefox over the existing version. If I go to bookmarks > manage bookmarks > restore and backup, sometimes that will load, others not. When it does load, it fails to find a file to restore from. 10 years of bookmarks, links & research vanished.

Can someone please provide a solution (preferably in Layman's terms) to this??

Hi - firefox recently updated and when it did I lost many of my recent bookmarks - also in the bookmarks backup folder dated when the update took p[lace there is not a backup there - folder is blank

Hello, I need urgent help. My Firefox browser started acting glitchy, so I restarted my computer. When it came back on, Firefox had lost all my bookmarks and passwords. I've spent 10 hours trying to fix it myself. I've found my old data files on the computer, but I can't get Firefox to use them. Safari works perfectly fine. I need you to remotely access my iMac and recover my Firefox profile with all my passwords and bookmarks.

You forced a download of of the new FireFox and it wiped out everything - favorite, history, etc.. even though I have signed into my profile. I don't even have the option to import from my previous version. WTH?!

Old Bookmarks had utube music selections for okctrlrs@sbcglobal.net. After Best buy merged Owner and P. R. Patterson, Owner bookmarks w/music selections was gone. They said Firefox might have them somewhere. It would be VERY helpful if you do have them.

if the browser ever crashes it likes to forget all my login cache forcing me to login over and over again. it also forgets my last session even though i have load my last session of tabs on startup. this POS keep loading no tabs from the last session.

Everything changed with last update. just today was able to get bookmarks back. Some still not working correctly, tool bars and theme are not correct either. unable to restore or sync to old settings. Please any advise? Toni

After trying suggested "fixes" still unable to get bookmarks restored on my Firefox account, and can't add any new ones either. Should I reinstall Firefox?
