I have been using Firefox for many, many years. As of late I find it is constantly slowing or freezing and when I check with taskmanager I find Firefox has opened and is running as many as 85 processes. I have tried the recommended methods of limiting it...but the performance options do not provide the ability to limit processes as set out in the instructions....and changing the browser.tabs.remote.autostart to false also did not work. If I can't fix this, I will have to stop using Firefox. I am using version 144.0

Windows 10 B650M PG RIptide WiFi (BIOS 3.5) Ryzen 5 7600 RTX 2060 Super (driver 596.36, output to LG C1 over HDMI at 4K 120Hz with certified cable) 16GB DDR5

This issue has been happening for about 1-2 months.

When Firefox is open on my computer, my cursor will randomly lower its frame rate to a very low number, probably below 15 FPS. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, just having Firefox open, even in the background, causes this to happen. No such issues in other chrome-based browsers with or without hardware acceleration enabled. I have disabled all extensions and still encounter the problem.

Disabling hardware acceleration does fix this issue, but then the web, and even high resolution videos, become laggy or choppy as a result. Which is very uncharacteristic for my system, because I remember it being quite snappy in software mode on the my same CPU in the past. So something seems to have gone wrong in recent months that makes acceleration in general poor, with or without hardware acceleration on.

Current firefox version: 155.0

Since the last few updates, update frequency of title bar of inactive tabs slows down over time. Sometimes there is important info in title bar that should be updated frequently. Are there any flags in about:config that can be reverted to achieve that?

My hardware is low end from 2016, Pentium 3825U, HD Graphics, and 4gigs of RAM. In the old times, the browser was fast, but this year it has slowed down so bad. Whenever I start my machine, without opening Firefox, Ctrl-Shift-I works (For inverting selections in certain programs, for example).

However, once I open Firefox, these 3 keys no longer work when used together (but work in any other combo).

This persists even when I close Firefox, or kill it in Task manager.

Any ideas?

Cheers

In 2024-25 Microsoft Edge gained the ability to limit the usage of physical RAM that the processes uses. Once that limit is reached tabs are put to sleep or are unloaded. So a user of Microsoft Edge could restrict the memory usage to say 1GB or 2GB or 3GB and so on till the maximum available physical RAM.

Does Firefox have such an ability? Is there some flag or settings in about:config that can be enabled for a similar feature to be used? Does Firefox have ability to put tabs to sleep once SWAP is started to be used? Is there some flag or settings in about:config that can be enabled for a similar feature to be used?

If none of one of the above is not available with Firefox then will Firefox add this feature as part of the browser in the future?

I booted the computer this AM and firefox is acting up. I can go to my email accounts (2), but I can't open an email. Both act like this. They will open with MS Edge and all other functions seem to work on the computer except for firefox.

I tried searching for a solution using duckduckgo and google, many of the links wouldn't open and some that did, just loaded re-loaded, but never finished. Pulldown menus, where they ask a question and click to see the anwer, don't work. They are frozen. Can see the cursor highlight the menus, however it will not allow any interaction with them.

I restarted the computer, there was an update, and I had it update. No change with firefox. I reinstalled firefox. No change. For the moment, I'm out of ideas. Anyone have any thoguhts about this, please help. Thanks in advance. Ken

I've been using Tabliss on Firefox without any issues, but immediately after updating to Firefox 151.0, a frustrating new loading delay started happening.

Prior to the update, new tabs loaded instantly. Now, whenever I open a new tab, the page sits on a completely blank screen for about 2 seconds before the Tabliss layout, background image, and widgets finally pop in.

Because this issue did not exist at all before version 151.0, it seems like the latest browser update changed how extension-based new tabs are cached or initialized, causing a new rendering bottleneck.
