Hi, I am using Firefox 118.0 for Fedora that comes with my Linux distribution (Fedora 38 Kinoite). Everything was working fine, but as of today, when I try to start Firefox from a taskbar, my entire desktop goes black for a second and then returns to normal with Firefox not starting as if I didn't click on the icon at all. However, if I open the Terminal and run Firefox from there, everything works fine. I am not sure if the problem is related to Firefox, KDE Plasma or Fedora, so I will start here. I attach my system info below.
Terminal output (Firefox works fine from here): $ firefox Crash Annotation GraphicsCriticalError: |[0][GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR (t=0.40708) [GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR Crash Annotation GraphicsCriticalError: |[0][GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR (t=0.40708) |[1][GFX1-]: vaapitest: VA-API test failed: failed to initialise VAAPI connection.

My problem is this:
If I click on the open new tab button, and then I keep my cursor there, such that I get the little tooltip "Open a new tab (Ctrl+T)..." , Firefox will stop the address bar from updating---it won't show my keyboard inputs, not will it search, or do anything else. This will resolve itself after I move my cursor away from the open new tab button and the tooltip stops showing, even my inputs will appear there.
This quite annoying, especially when opening a tab to search for something quickly...

If I press the show desktop button and then try to reveal Firefox, none of the windows will appear. I'd have to go into Windows Task Manager and be lucky enough to terminate the correct process containing the tab, or else I'd have to start all over again.

Hello all,
I am having problems with video playback on some websites (see screenshot attached). The problem is that the video options start to "multiply" - for example, when I start the video there is (as is normal) one 'Speed' and one 'Quality' button, but then every second these buttons start to multiply. This happens only on some websites - for example, it does not happen with normal videos on YouTube, although it happens on YouTube Shorts sometimes.

Somehow this en.softonic nonsense has made it into my windows notifications tab under 'firefox' notifications. How can I get rid of it? I can't find it in the General, Add-on or Extensions settings of Firefox or Windows Uninstall to turn it off or remove it.
How can I get rid of it? I don't want it.
Thanks

So, I've had this problem since last 3 months. I'm using Firefox with auto-update turned on. Right now my version is 110.0.
Every now and then Firefox stops to load any websites and after closing it and opening it again it won't open correctly saying that my profile was created using newer version of Firefox and I need to create new one. At some point I was on default-release-9 until I asked about it on Reddit and got a reply guiding me to check compatibility.ini in my profile directory and fair enough, when this happens, compatibility.ini indicates Firefox version 119 so Firefox is right thinking that values don't match.
But the definitive question is how do I stop Firefox from messing around with that file? I'm honestly tired of manually editing it every time Firefox stops working. I know that website loading problems can stem from my excessive uptimes but this is an issue I can work around by restarting Firefox from time to time.

I recently downloaded a file that may have had some sort of virus or malware. The file came up negative in Windows Defender and Malwarebytes but I deleted it anyways; however, I still get a download popup every time I open Firefox telling me that "This file contains a virus or malware." I've cleared the download library and browser history (cookies, cache, etc.) but I still get the popup from the Firefox.
Is there any known fix for this? Thanks!

"XUL Runner This profile was last used with a newer version of this application. Please create a new profile." I did create a new profile. I have like 4 different profiles now from every time I've had to reinstall Firefox because it keeps crashing and freezing.

Hi,
My partner has an issue with Google working within Firefox (FF). The problem started around 27 April 2022.
In short:
Note:
I have tried :
I uninstalled FF using Revo Uninstaller which initially uses the standard FF uninstall exe then it scans the drive for removes all FF files and entries within the Registry; then I re-installed the latest version of FF. Rebooted. No luck here either. I assume there is some remnant file that remains on the hard disk as some settings are retained after a new install.

I can't find any recent issues related to this specific problem.
Please advise what to try next.
Of course I'm happy to provide additional info if required or work through different scenarios to isolate the issue(s).
Thanks in advance for any assistance, Steve Gee

Hello Everyone
In our Citrix environment we use Mozilla Firefox 115.0.2esr (64-Bit). Exactly after 5 minutes the VDA terminates the user session and FireFox is closed. It does not matter, the session is inactive or the user is actually browsing.
The only eventlog is the following: Der Citrix Desktopdienst hat erkannt, dass eine Benutzersitzung beendet wurde. Sitzung 'XXX' für Benutzer 'Username' wurde beendet; Ursache: Logoff.
The Citrix Desktop Service has detected that a user session has been terminated. Session 'XXX' for user 'Username' was terminated; cause: Logoff.
I already started the Firefox with troubleshooting mode but does the same.
Thank you for your help, hope someone already saw this issue

I admittedly have a quite a few plugins installed, so I tested this in a private window and this issue does not occur.
I attempted disabling the obvious plugins UBlock, 'I don't care about cookies', and Tampermonkey without any success. I also tried using a different user-agent without any success.
edit: removed erroneous error information

For the past 8-10 days, every time I try to log-on to: https://selfservice.telkom.co.za/rococo/public/content/interstitial I click "Login" under the Mobile & Home heading and I receive the following message returned.
Bad Request The request could not be understood by server due to malformed syntax.
I have used MS EDGE browser and do not get the same problem, it log's-on OK.
As such it seems that it is a Firefox problem.
