I could not log in with previous TOTP any more so I used a backup recovery code to gain access to the account. Disabled non-working TOTP and now I am trying to re-enable 2FA, but every time I successfully go through the process (there is a green bar on top of the screen that says "Two-step authentication enabled"), the end result is that 2FA is still disabled and not required when logging in to the firefox account.

I have a few add-ons installed in Firefox (85.0.1, 64-bit, under Windows 10, 1909), but when I open a Private Browsing window, I can no longer access them. True, they are still there and can be seen listed under Menu/Add-ons, but I don't see how to control them there, only enable or disable them.
If I want to use NoScript (for example) in a Private Browsing window, how do I set Firefox up to do that? -- jclarkw

I am trying to logon to a website, I enter my id and password and click continue and in Firefox the website advises that the token is missing. If I use another browser I enter my id and password and click continue and a second screen appears requesting selected letters of a memorable word, entering the selected letters and clicking on enter allows me to enter the site. I have disabled all my addons and this still happens, what setting in firefox do I have to change to overcome this problem? xxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx

Just curious as to why you have Google as your default search engine. Google, from my understanding, is not the most friendly entity for users because they are just like many social media sites that invade users privacy for nefarious purposes. I have refrained from using Google and have went with Bing. Don't particularly care for any of the main stream search engines. Is there any specific reason why Google is used and not some other search engine that isn't interested in violating your privacy?
Like whenever I'm on Amazon can the tab automatically convert to a shopping container like when I open Facebook with the Facebook container installed?

Now that FF 86 has total cookie protection do I still need to run extensions that do the same thing. I have always run ublock origin. Also I see that DuckDuckGo has an extension that blocks trackers, wonder if I need that too or not.
When I load a web page I still see ublock blocking things and if I add the DDG extension its finding stuff too at the same time.
Thoughts?

I am alarmed to learn from moderator Cor-el that FF installs a back door on my browser to load studies even after I specifically set my FF preferences to NOT participate in any study. Under Privacy and Security > Firefox Data Collection and Use, I unchecked the box to DISALLOW studies. ~ I am NOT enrolled in any study according to about:studies ~
--> How can I stop this? Can I delete all these "app.normandy."options in the about:config window without breaking the browser? Or do I set all or some to False? I am not a programmer. I would appreciate a lay person explanation.
~ The bigger question: Why is Firefox is inserting these 'studies' surreptiously irregardless of the options I set? ~
I deliberately stopped installing upgrades after v.84 to avoid problems caused by unannounced changes to functionality and the interface. Especially after the terrible changes to the print function which I encountered using another computer. But this disruptive, unwanted Print experiment appeared on this PC, despite not updating.
Thank you to the helpful moderators who can identify which about:config options we can change to false to roll back changes. However, it is not beneficial to make us waste hours to hunt these down.

I have a new i_mac 19.2 using catalina OS and firefox browser 78.8 and xfinity connect for e-mail. every time I boot up it asks for my mozilla/firefox master password. in 20 years of using firefox and thunderbird I have never been asked for the master password for mozilla/firefox . I had to go to xfinity connect to get e-mail service that worked because google and yahoo keep trying to highjack my mail app.
