Am on win10 -- FF 118.0.2

A strange thing has just occurred in the past two days -- Firefox will no longer drag and drop URLs to form a shortcut on the desktop; I get only the international "can't do that" symbol, the circle with a slash, as I drag.

When I make a shortcut within firefox, then copy it and paste to the desktop, instead of the FF icon, I get the blank sheet, but when I look at the file with Notebook, it shows all the expected content:

Same deal with shortcuts that once did work; they are now inactive. However, when dragged onto FF or Chrome, they magically link up as they ought to.

I've googled for answers, but found nothing worthwhile. One suggestion was to shift the default browser to something else. I chose Google Chrome. Did no good. The shortcuts remained inactive. I could drag and drop from Chrome to the desktop but the shortcuts were still of a white sheet and inactive.

So, I'm suspecting something in Windows needs to be reset, but what? Can't find anything about where and how url shortcuts are treated in the registry. It's an annoyance. Any help greatly appreciated.

I have used Firefox for email, web browsing etc for many years without issue, until about 2 weeks ago. I was using gmail to send an email and a small attachment would not fully upload (locking up at 75%). I looked at gmail help and the recommendation was to flush cookies and cache. I did this and have had problems ever since. GMail: Connecting to gmail is a hit or miss affair - it mostly does not work at all but on rare occasions it does connect. If it does load it is very slow, often I cannot change tabs or access labels. I cannot switch inboxes to other accounts. I mostly cannot send emails (though very occasionally I can). When trying to switch accounts it mostly just says something went wrong but once or twice it has brought up the list of accounts but I cannot select one. I can rarely send an email - it is very slow, it says working but mostly nothing happens. Sometimes an Oops 01 error message appears. I have not been able to attach a file to any email I have tried to send. I am seem to be receiving emails without issue. [Gmail mostly works on Chrome but sometimes I have trouble sending].

Google Search: When I use Google as a search engine I often get only a white screen but it will sometimes bring up a screen of search results however when I click on the link either nothing happens or it is really slow to load the page - once the page loads navigating around the site is normal.

I have no issues when using Duck Duck Go or if I type the address into the address bar or it is a book marked site.

YouTube: I can rarely connect to Youtube using Firefox - it mostly just sits at a white screen with the address in the address bar but nothing happening. If it does connect it is incredibly slow at searching or changing screens. I often get a message saying I am not connected to the internet but I am because I have other things open and operating.

Google docs: I cannot access google docs using Firefox but can using Chrome.

I have no issues with online gaming or streaming sites. It seems to be only google related services that are giving me grief.

Tired of the bullying tactics of Microsoft forcing me to accept Microsoft Edge when all I want is Google Chrome, so I'm thinking of making Mozilla my default browser, but I'm concerned about whether Mozilla will tranfer all my info. I sell the occasional bits on Etsy and Ebay. I had found the perfect tool to edit my photos on Chrome. Now this has gone haywire because I am forced into using Edge, which does not give me anything like the editing choices I have on Chrome. I have followed all the directions given by Microsoft to get off Edge and back into Chrome but they have all failed miserably, so I am trapped in Edge and all my efforts are turning into Groundhog Day ! Also if I return to Firefox, what will happen to all my photos, and the folders they are kept in ? As an 86 year old, I need clear, concise directions on how I can restore everything I need to be able to return to a browser I was completely comfortable with. Please advise.

Am I understanding this correctly?

HTML backup (bookmarks) doesn't support tags and annotations, but JSON backup does, and JSON backup doesn't preserve the website favicons, but HTML backup does?  

So, what I can do, is restore my (saved) bookmarks using JSON backup, then restore the HTML backup, this would get my tags and annotations, and the website favicons back? But the downside, I will need to remove duplicates?

Since the update to version 118.02 FF, the downloads now end up in the folder C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp instead of the 'Downloads' folder as indicated in Settings - General (see attachment)

My potato pc(amd A8-7600, 8G ram, rx560 2G) is not capable of YouTube vp9 hardware acceleration, but I played 1080p 60fps videos without difficulty using add-ons that force h264 decoding, but the videos started stuttering a while ago. At first, I thought it was add-ons problem, but other than YouTube, too

Transferred everything to a new computer (Windows 11). All my bookmarks transferred just fine but the little logos are all gone and every bookmark has only the little "globe" logo. How can I get back all the individual logos? Thanks, Len

Hi, Hopefully someone can help. This started a couple of days ago. I'm actually trying to log in to my own account on Flickr. If I just input Flickr.com, the main front page loads, if I then go to log in, I get: "429 Too Many Requests You have sent too many requests in a given amount of time" on the screen. I've only hit enter once. As far as I can see this is the only site that does this BUT Youtube sometimes plays up, so maybe something is happening in the back ground with that. Might be totally unconnected.

I've tried using Opera (my main back up) and that loads my account just fine. I've tried turning off the extensions Adblock, No Script etc and the 429 error still pops up everytime I go to log in..

Any ideas? Anyone?

Pubmed Central (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/) is a commonly used website for literature reading in life sicences research. I found that it takes a lot of time to load the PMC web page, and even worse to access an aricle in it, always more than 10 seconds (for example, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1234567/). These pages access smoothly in other browsers on my computer (MacBook Pro with M1, macOS Sonoma 14.0). I've tried the troubleshoot mode, and clearing all the cookies and cache, but it just doesn't work.

when i try to use my banking app the payment section shows page not found. bank chat person said it was extensions in my browser. i downloaded firefox , i guess it has extensions too. can i disable the extension or extensions that cause this and which ones do this

My computer needed to be updated so I click on update without closing any programs because the computer usually does it. At this time I was in the School Library well the update was completed so I open up Firefox usually when i open firefox after a shutdown or some other reason. I can go to Open Application Menu>History>RestorePreviousSession but before I clicked on Restore Previous Session I realize that I need to go to class, so I closed my computer. once in class I open my computer up and I try to restore my previous session but by the time that I tried to restore it my session was deleted and my question is if anyone at FIREFOX can help restore that deleted session because I was working on my research project which is due this week, and in that particular session I had tabs open that I need so i can finish my project. Just got this notication after visiting a Top Games support pages when closed the private I used so no active data on what is going on. Very first time ever getting any notification with Firefox before so suspect wedsite as issue caught their linking code trying to drop tracers so maybe something there would appreciate your input. Game parent company Miracle Games I play from a Asian area and pulls some very strange behavior.

My Firefox browser always shows nine icons for sites I regularly visit. That's nice. Lately, though, icons for sites I do not want keep popping up displacing ones I do. I delete them and get my favorites back but it's really annoying. Can you stop this?

When I go to google search on Firefox and search for something in images, every result loads instantly. When I go to duck duck go in firefox, there is randomly huge communication lag time between pressing enter and a result populating (usually more than 30seconds-2min where normally it is instant) and a good majority of the image thumbnail results do not display. It didn't used to do this and I think something screwed something up on my computer. What can cause this?

Things I have tried: Resetting Firefox Deleting and Reinstalling Firefox Deleting all cache/cookies/Mozilla files in %appdata, program files, and other locations and reinstalling.

I prefer to use DDG over Google. Can someone help? Why is it doing this?

Hi, I have just returned from China. I use a Macbook Pro and am operating Firefox 118.0.2 (64-bit) I now find that when I use Firefox to access websites blocked in China (i.e google, the Guardian) I get a "Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue" message. I can access everything with a VPN active I also got this for Microsoft Edge but the problem resolved by clearing cookies (didn't work for firefox) How can I fix this

I need to know how to stop the tool bar from popping down whenever my mouse hits the top of the screen in fullscreen with hide toolbars selected, no other browser I have used does this so I dont know if it is intentional but if it is please tell me how to make it go away, thank you.

I maintain the website for a small dog club and use Wordpress with plug-ins to provide page flipping through pdf files in a members only area of the site. The plug-in is D-flip. I have attached .jpg files made using the Fireshot extension both FF and Chrome browsers. I also saved the page as an .htm format file which when displayed does not appear the same as the original page.

the color layers have shifted during the playing of videos, mainly youtube. This started a couple of months ago. There is a green line on the bottom of the screen and a definite shift in the colors on everything.
