Hi everyone,

I'd like my new tab page to be a local html file (that uses .js scripts and local image files so I cannot use this add-on or that one).

A few versions of Firefox ago, the method described [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1251199|here] worked perfectly fine but it's not the case any more.

I'm using MacOS version 11.2.2 and the latest version of Firefox (87.0 64 bits).

Thanks in advance to anyone who will be able to provide help! Best, Léo

Well, the first thing is when I logged back in from a restart, firefox wouldn't open. It would just say "firefox quit unexpectedly" over and over again and I restarted over and over again. I used AppCleaner to delete (not permanently) the old Firefox then downloaded Firefox from another browser (which I'm writing from right now, Opera) but even though it worked, the links in bookmarks had no logo, my add-ons weren't in the right order, and none of my preferences were saved. What should I do?

Is there a way to assign a name or alias to websites listed in the Logins & Passwords manager? I'm helping my dad set up an account for billpay for company A who uses Company B to provide the payment functionality. The problem is Company B's URL has no reference to Company A at all and that's where the login and pw are configured. My dad won't know to look for Company B's URL in Logins & Passwords. Heck, it took me awhile to figure out the credentials were saved under Company B; I kept searching for Company A. It would make life much easier if I could alias company B's URL or add a keyword to it. Thanks for any assistance.

hi, whoever reads this. I've noticed a problem recently in some websites where certain elements (e.g. logos and icons) completely disappear and get replaced by strings of text, which I'm assuming is the code that is used to create them. Usually, it's just one icon, typically a search or menu icon, but there have been more drastic cases, such as the screenshot of the Encyclopaedia Britannica website that I attached. Notice that many buttons, while still functional, are covered with strange text. One thing I'm suspecting is that I intentionally or inadvertently disabled an element (or something of that sort, sorry for my ignorance in the specificities) ages ago that was supposed to make these work, but I don't remember what I disabled, if I ever did. But other than that, I have no clue what causes this. In Tor, where I don't have an account and never interfered with the setup or settings, everything seems to work just fine; the buttons are right there. Hope someone can be of help.

Firefox version 87.0 (64-bit) on M1-based mac using macOS 11.2.3.

I was happily using name and address form fill for filling out online petitions and so on earlier today, and the form fill just stopped working. I've never seen this happen before, this has always worked in every browser I've used including Firefox, Edge, Chrome, Brave, Safari, and all the other browsers I've tried or used for some period of time. No other changes in behavior, just name and address form fill stopped working.

I did try dumping my user profile and starting Firefox with a new profile. While it was time-consuming to get my configuration all back to where I was, I found the same problem with name and address form filling, not working. I haven't added any extensions lately, or done anything else that would affect this that I'm aware of.

Any idea how to troubleshoot this one?

Ok so recently I made a post about the issue of Firefox crashing and having to reinstall it, then kind of fixing it by moving my old profile into this one. Thing is, Firefox crashed on me. Again. And now my profile is yet again, deleted. I tried doing the same thing I did but it didn't work. But there's actually two Firefox folders, one that refuses to leave my desktop (I was actually planning on asking for help on this one) and one that I put in the Application Support place. None of it is working though. It could just be because my computer has some issues though, (it's an old one, 2-4 years old and the sides are a bit damaged because somebody forced it into a tiny box and sent it back and I've also dropped it a few times, although I don't think that would impact it, and also Firefox crashes every so often when I open my bookmarks) this isn't the first time Firefox has crashed, only the first time it crashed and erased my profile. If it helps, I was clicking on my add-ons to get a tomato timer to go (after reinstalling it because some of my add-ons didn't work) and then it crashed, with the twirly rainbow circle. I force quit the app and came back. Voila. If anybody has any help, please do. I have work to do and I don't fancy doing it with this hanging over my head.

Hi,

I think I broke the ALT keyup events in some way, probably with my configuration but not sure how.

If I put this code in the console : `document.addEventListener("keyup", e=>console.log('alt: '+e.altKey+' | '+String.fromCharCode(e.which).toLowerCase()));` and the press the keys, I have the following results:

- pressing "I", I get the expected "alt: false | i" - pressing "ALT+I", I get "alt: true | "

I do not have the problem with other modifier keys like CTRL

I posted this earlier today and can't seem to get back to where it is shown. The above code is what I woke up to on Firefox. Subsequently, I reinstalled a second edition of the browser and it works fine with the exception that I can't install Dashlane on the second version. When I attempt to install Dashlane, the previous version of Firefox opens and wants to install Dashlane itself which, of course, is useless as that version is where I get "Error code: SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE" continuously. My question is, how do I get rid of the offending version of the browser?

Turned on my imac this morning and the Firefox browser gave a "Error code: SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE" for every page I tried to open. I have reinstalled the browser and that one is working properly. However, when I try to add Dashlane to it, the old browser opens and the same error message is displayed making it impossible to use Dashlane on the newer version of the browser. How can I get rid of the version that opens up when I try to install Dashlane on the working browser?

Although I use dark mode on my mac, I have firefox set to light mode theme, which pretty much works for the tabs and such. However, when I go into Preferences, the theme is dark and, for instance, if I want to search my cookies/cache to specifically remove some of them, the black font on top of the black entry field makes it impossible to see what I am typing. Is there any fix for this?

I want to find out how to stop incessant update notifications on a MacBook Pro. Respectfully, please no lectures about just going ahead and updating or how I should keep my browser updated. We all make personal choices about how we want to manage our technology. I googled this first and found so many other people asking the same question, but no firm solutions. As you know, in preferences I have the option to allow automatic updates or to first be asked before updating, but it's a Morgan's Fork. If you don't allow automatic updates - which is out of the question - then they are going to bug the pee out of you until you update. That makes me dig my heels in deeper. Either I find a way to turn off these annoying notifications or I am done with Firefox. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

The Other Bookmarks folder is located on the far right side of the toolbar instead of being a movable folder. This happened after Firefox crashed and I lost all my preferences (any help with that?) I tried to use the method that jscher2000 recommended when I asked this before but the only thing it did was remove the folder entirely from the toolbar.
