I have an imac 21.5-inch (late 2009) on my table with OS X El Capitan running on it. It has the following specifications: 1. Processor - 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 2. RAM - 8 Gb 3. Graphic card with 256 Mb
I have not been able to update the OS to run most recent Applications, and most of it, the web browsers are not updating as well.
What should I do to get through? Thank you.

Too many varying solutions posted online. Need current preferred solution that is easy to implement and easy to reverse.

I keep getting a triangle deal on Firefox that indicates I need to add the "permission request for Firefox extensions" from Mozilla. Is this something I need to install or just information regarding extensions. From reading about this it doesn't appear to be safe because it can access and change nearly everything? how do i completely stop updates? or at least until i restart the browser, not the browser making me restart it. i have it set to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them", but its not really a choice if im forced to press the button to continue browsing...
it happens twice a day that firefox prevents me browsing and makes me wait 30 seconds for it to update after clicking the "restart firefox and update" button. very frustrating.
